Dierberg's here in STL dropped their $2.99/lb price to $2.49/lb as
last I saw yesterday. My local farmer's market (Market In The Loop)
had them fro $3.49/lb last week. I'll see what they want for them this
week when I go tomorrow,

couldn't swear, that Aldi's advertised $.99 this week. Of course, those
might be prepackaged in some non-convenient way.

Just checked my Aldi's ad. They have both Bing and Ranier on sale for
$1/29.lb according to their "special purchases" ad starting 7/9/2009
in STL. Guess I'll have to ride my bike up there and get some! :-)

Ah, that's what it was. I remember now being surprised that Raniers
were the same price. They usually have good prices on fresh blueberries
too.

Unfortunately, the one closest to me is in the opposite direction from
my trip home from work.

See my recent addition to the "Ideas Needed Involving Oranges" thread
for a description of a cherry "ratafia". An cherry 'house hold liquor.'

I'll ride up to Aldi's tomorrow, after I ride up to the Market in The
Loop for my weekly produce purchase. I wanna see what the Market In
The Loop has them for too, but I'll bet it won't beat $1.29/lb!

As I said, it's possible the Aldi's ones will be prepackaged or
something. That's the way it is with their bananas. They're cheap, but
a entire bunch is wrapped in plastic, which isn't how I like to buy
bananas. I'll be interested to hear what you find.

I'll let you know what they have. For $1.29/lb, how bad can they be? I
guess I'll see! ALL the cherries I've seen lately, including those I
paid $2.99/lb for were huge and yummy (looking, for all those I did
not try)

We got some for 0.99/lb today. Elsewhere they are around 1.99 or more.
Grapes for 0.77/lb
Large shopping bag full of fruit and veg for 14.00 or so :)

We are on a Vitamin K spree at the moment, so spinach and dark-leaved
lettuce (not a lot of choice of that around here though). Need some
soybean oil too :P

the problem.

Spinach is an excellent source of VitK, VitA and VitC, iron as well as
many other beneficial nutrients. Can your vitamin supplements say the
same?

=======================================
"Cherries for Charity" is an annual promotion at our 5 local SuperValu
store chain. This year cherries are $1.48 lb with (as always) 25
cents per lb going to our womens' shelter and our rape&abuse crisis
center. It will raise many thousands of dollars.

These are the best cherries we get all year. The event happens when
the cherries are best and most reasonable. Last week beautiful
cherries were still almost $4 lb. This year they are big and crisp and
sweet. They push it in the stores - volunteers from service clubs
handing out samples. Also, they put pretty buckets in the coffee
shops at the counter for tasting.

Sitting on 2lbs for me and 2lbs for DD and her SO

That was in the past. Besides, my daughter doesn't like spinach.

Report on STL Aldi's $1.29/lb Rainier and Bing cherries:

Yes, they are prepackaged in 1lb styrene clear plastic containers.
Yes, they are DELICIOUS! (I'm eating some right now!) Plump, sweet,
juicy and everything I demand in a cherry.

What Aldi's ad did not state: limit 2lbs per customer! I was gonna get
3, but the checker let me know there was a 2lb per customer limit.

Market In The Loop was still at $3.49lb! At least that's what was
written on their chalkboard.

Sounds like it might be worth a trip.

Two each of the types, or two total?

Any. Mix and match. I was gonna get 2 Bing and 1 Rainier, but I had
the checker put back one Bing.

Gotcha. Thanks.

No. Vitamin K is known to be important in bone health and there is a
little evidence that it may be involved in lessening (and possibly
reversing) calcification in arteries and heart valve. The former is
important to my mother and the latter to me :)

More greenery is never a bad thing in a well-rotated diet. Neither of us
are taking anticoagulants so no danger of overdose.

Spinach isn't a good source of iron cos it's chelated and not readily
available for absorption.

Shame. It's one of our favourite vegetables but we weren't eating it on
a regular basis.

You're only able to absorb 10%-20% of any iron you consume anyway.
Although true, heme iron is somewhat more absorbable than non-heme
(chelated) iron.

..and as we tell patients, take your orange juice with your iron and the
Vit C helps with iron absorption.
