I'm thinking of doing the same. The filters aren't working with some of the
garbage subject headers.
This is rich. Asshole Morrow blocking *anyone* while he changes email
addresses to avoid killfiles several times a day.
Not sure how to do this as I post via http://groups.google.co.nz/
My email address is appended to everyting I post and I see no option
to change the format of the address.
My ISP stopped providing a Usenet service years ago citing lack of
interest on the user's side :(

I filtered out @gmail months ago when there were intolerable levels of
spam coming in, and a number of spammers and other idiots using gmail
addresses. Then there are a few idiots who have long been filtered by
name. Unfortunately, I miss some of the legitimate people using gmail,
but it was worth it to get rid of the spam.
There's hardly any at all any more.
Mine are holding up well. I've seen very little spam of late.

There was a recent thread with a number of superior solutions.

Okay. I checked my filter log to see what was being filtered and it
turned out to be mostly those people with gmail addresses who got caught
in the sweep. I have disable it and will keep an eye on the spam. The
filters for the especially obnoxious idiots will remain enabled.

We had a small influx of spam for maybe 2 days. I didn't even notice
where they came from because they were clustered and very easy to
delete with one keystroke.

When I signed up the only way you could do it was with a gmail acct.
Is this non-gmail address done?

What a ridiculous statement for them to make!

I left out a crucial word... *How*. Sorry.
I see now that users can specify a "secondary" email address. Is that
what you did? *How* (LOL) did you designate it as your primary email
address when posting through gmail? Does that apply when posting
through google groups too?
Regarding spam specifically, currently in this group I see a single
piece of spam in my newsreader and it's from someone posting from
something called foodbanter.com.

When I blocked gmail, you were certainly one of those I
excepted from the rule.

Are they cutting their prices to compensate for the lesser service?
And actually, the pron angle is just a convenient ruse for dropping
something they don't want to bother with internally or pay to outsource,
while putting a moral face for the gullible masses.

My difficulty is that when I signed up *at the beginning of the
beginning*, a gmail address was implied (I don't remember an opt out).
I'm not going to go through that process again, but a straight answer
may help other legitimate posters who still need a back up.
Just like Comcast.... the bastids.
Sure, they gave me good price for 6 months in compensation, but then
they're back charging me for many, many services I don't use.

Believe me, I get it. What I really HATE is being charged for all the
stuff I *don't* use.
my guess is 'fuck no.'
your pal,
blake
I HAVE been having fun for about 4 years now attempting to wreak
revenge on some of the net shysters. I'm disabled and the Internet is
my window on the world. When I get spam in my e-mail, I make a
complete copy of the item, full headers included, and forward it to
not only the government, but also to that person's ISP provider. I
just LOVE getting all those letters from ISP's politely letting me
know that that particular person's account has been cancelled... I
have also contacted a major US maker of high-quality "stuff" and when
I get an e-mail quoting that someone is advertising their "stuff" I
send the e-mail to them to do with as they wish. Maybe if enough other
people would become more proactive we could all stem the tide a little
more?
I realize of course it's really not too much more than a nasty game of
"Whack-a-Mole," but I still feel better for having done it than not!
If anyone wants to know what the Federal Trade Commission's net
address to report spams and scams, it is: sp...@uce.gov
Pissed by fake Ebay and Paypal scams? Copy the e-mail, including all
headers to: sp...@ebay.com, or to sp...@paypal.com.
If you really want to double-wham someone, report the e-mail (again,
with ALL headers), to the FTC, AND the person's ISP, AND/OR to E-Bay
and Paypal. WHEEEE! It does take me time, but that's something I seem
to have a lot of these days....

You've already done it. Putting that "NONE" in your Email address is
the "munging" part.
Thanks for all your help in cleaning up the spam. It's slow work, and
it takes time for anything to get fixed, but it's work like yours that
gets it going.
