It got posted on the italian cooking NG, looks like an italian person
from the NG had it given by a person from Australia, it's not clear
whether she brougth it from there or not, though.
Any ideas?

My first guess is...a tool to break the paper, foil or plastic seal on a bottle
of whatever...wine or condiments or whatever. I know its a long-shot but what
the hey.

I don't know. Someone guessed it could be used to ply the edge of opened
cans, which is dangerous since it cuts (here, those openers who ply/cut
the border inside in a way that leaves it non-cutting are non widespread).

I will take a guess...it is for cutting around a round shaped & filled
pasta, such as round ravioli. The cup part it faced downward and the
one handle steadies it as the other handle's edge is used to cut
around the shape.

I wish I could read the letters and numbers stamped into the handle.
It bothered me so much I posted over there. It could crimp the edges
of pie crusts.
