Pea Soup Andersen's!!!

I just saw a food TV segment about Pea Soup Andersen's in Buellton,
Kalifornia and got a hankering for a few bowls of the stuff!!! Dammit!!!

Ever been?

A few bowls AND a tri-tip steak sandwich!!!!!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

http://www.peasoupandersens.net/restaurant.shtml

I'm convinced my Mom never really died, she just ran off with my all-time
favorite family recipe and is working at Pea Soup Andersen's!!!

Shit, I'm out of exclamation points, dammit. ;D

Pea Soup Andersen's. Put it on your travel map if you're in that neck of
the woods.

Best,

Andy

Only once many, many, many years ago. Fell for the billboard hype and
went in. I thought it was over priced and mediocre.... so I never
returned.

Been there many many times it's a good place to stop on the way to or from
San Francisco by cat on Highway 101 (semi-coastal). About 2 miles from
there is Solvang - Denmark in California http://www.solvangca.com/ a much
better place to visit.

The Andersons pea soup is available canned.

For my taste it's a little thin and so-so overall.

Most of the times we stopped at Andersons I was disappointed.

Solvang is a step outside America, inside America and a wonderful town to
visit a step or so down the road from Buellton. SHOULD NOT BE MISSED!!!
:))) AGREED.

Maybe Pea Soup Andersen's is hit or miss on occasion but never in my times
there.

There's one in Carlsbad, CA, too, within sight of the famous
Flower Fields.

How does your family recipe vary from standard pea soup? I prefer
yellow dried peas to green, but other than that he standard, ham bone
recipe is hard to beat.

I regret to inform you and the group that I only got 99% of the recipe from
Mom.

It was split green peas, carrots, celery, onion (the x-factor), potato (x-
factor II) and bacon strips, pepper and salt, then stewed for what smelled
like forever and mushed through a folley mill, then gone in an instant!!!

As I remember it, anyhow! :)

And for something like four dollars, get it with the works on the side:
bacon, onion...I think five things for inclusion in your soup, but I can't
remember the other three.

I have several plastic flat picks, a plastic thumb pick and some metal
finger picks.

And I'd naturally love to see my Bums sweep the Cubbies (for whom I pull
when they're not L.A.'s opponent), but I think the two high-margin wins
we've just had are misleading. I'd say "Cubs" today.

The hell's the matter with Our Other Team (Anaheim) all of a sudden?

Was the missing 1% Mother's love? Or was it thyme and/or bayleaf which
many people add. I don't, btw. And I usually use a meaty ham bone
instead of bacon so I can strip off the meat before the simmer and add
the shredded ham after "mushing" the peas.

Yes, many times, it's really noting special, but good on a cold day,
especially ride in on a moto

Marie Callender's Split Pea soup if far better, than Andersen's. But
it's easy to fall for the signs; kind of like "Stucky's Peanut Brittle" and
their count down signs, on Old US-66.

Agreed, it's a lot of hype... their pea soup is awful... salty green
water, no flavor of peas whatsoever... and I tried it a few times over
the years. My first visit was 1964, again 1975 and again 1985, maybe
it was good originally. They have the most uncomfortable seating, I
hate when restaurants have those hard wooden "captain's" chairs with
the shaped seats with that wedge of wood up your crack, what makes
them think everyone has the same shape ass... sit there more than an
hour you need a proctologist.
