Speaking as one with a cast iron gut, I was never very scared.
I did pass them by when they got really cheap though.
Answer to your question, I don't know. I'd shy away from anything that

Obviously I don't want fire ants. Or moles. I think the one we had was
flooded out. Living right behind a golf course has its perks. They don't
want them digging up the fairways or greens. Still, I hate to think what
they're using to get rid of them.
I don't mind tree rats :) Back home I had a special feeder just for them.
I don't even mind the raccoon that ran past last week. I've got
hummingbirds doing imitations of Sopwith Camels for the feeders outside the
front & back windows. A nest of baby cardinals in the tree by the kitchen
window. A couple of deer walked across the street into the trees. And a
huge (full grown) Red Tailed Hawk landed not three feet from the back
window... it was just sitting there taking a break. Persia, my cat,
chattered at it. I laughed; that bird could carry you off in an instant.
When it took off, the wingspan was a sight to behold.
There are snowy egrets wading around in the ponds all the time, doing what
they do best (eat oysters). Great Blue Herons. How majestic! Alligators,
um... well, they call animal control about those :)

When we had moles, we talked to the people at the golf course about how
they get rid of them. One of the employees told us, that they look for
the moles ridges, then, using a long, pointed screwdriver, they begin
stabbing up and down the ridge, trying to kill the mole. No thanks, that
is not for me. The castor oil worked and we have not seen a mole in
about 4 weeks.
We do not have mosquitos, which is strange for Louisiana. The golf
course must be doing something to get rid of them. We do have an
alligator in the pond that is about 200 ft from my back yard. Animal
control will not do anything to them, unless they attack somebody.

The local TV news yesterday had a story and video of a 5.5-foot gator
being removed from someone's home here in North Hollywood (CA USA). It
was living in what looked like a big dog cage *in the house*.

Alligators have tiny brains, they are not an animal you can train. I can
not imagine having one in the house. Ewwww.
