For some reason, maybe it was the oven fried chicken, my mind went to a lettuce and tomato salad with a scoop of cottage cheese. My sweet husband went to the supermarket (Publix) and had to get someone to find cottage cheese for him. It seems they give it very little shelf space anymore because of low demand. I guess yogurt has taken its place now. Or, maybe like me, we've all forgotten about it. It was still as good as I remembered, but I probably won't crave it again for a while.

We eat it all the time. I love it as a dip with some good hot salsa mixed in with it.

It also makes a tasty breakfast indulgence spread on buttered toast and
topped with cinnamon sugar.

I eat it all the time. The best tasting is Land O' Lakes but it's not sold
at most of the stores I frequent and I don't like the price. But all the
local dairies which sell milk also offer cottage cheese and there is plenty
of selection in the stores of multiple brands and fat content.

Mash some potato chips, and stir that into cottage cheese. Deeeelicious!

I used to make a dip by adding black pepper, chopped red onion and some
sharp cheddar. Whiz till smooth. Very good with black bread.

I use it as a dip. Wheat Thins and cottage cheese make a great snack
AFAIC.

Can't speak about cottage cheese. I use it occasionally in cooking when
I can't find or am not willing to pay for ricotta. For something like

I still don't understand the fascination with yogurt. Yes, I use plain
yogurt in place of sour cream occasionally. Just eating it? Nope.

It's a staple in my house. I have a scoop with many breakfasts ( protein ipo eggs) and like it on toast. I like it with Vegit on top too. With some sturdy crackers and a cut up tomato, it's one of my quick go-to lunches.

Richard Nixon ate it with ketchup - remember?

I love it mixed with cucumber and topped with black pepper. Someone
recently mentioned stuffing a bell pepper half with cottage cheese. That
sounds good -- maybe mix tomato and cucumber with cottage cheese and
then stuff the pepper. I like it on top of a hot baked potato.

Cottage cheese is a big help filling out Blue Cheese Dressing that
doesn't have enough blue cheese in it (the usual kind.) Of course,
blue cheese would probably be even better.

If you like cottage cheese on toast and you like it with eggs... have
you ever tried it with "egg on toast"? Toast, cottage cheese, soft
boiled egg (peeled) on top. This is the kind of soft boiled egg we
eat (not a new idea although bloggers would like you to think it is).
http://thevillagecook.com/hard-boiled-eggs-with-a-soft-center-over-hash-browns/
I make 5 minute eggs, hubby's are 6. I suspect we use different
levels of heat underneath because the end result is the same.

Store brand from Giant food is really good, to me at least. I like it
plain with just a little S&P and some jarred cajun seasoning like
Emeril's essence.

I sort of don't understand Jamie Lee Curtis' decision to become so plain
looking. She's still naturally beautiful but the way she dresses now
and her hair and no make up? I think she's younger than I am but she
looks much older.

I always have some in the fridge. Judging from shelf space in our
supermarket, it is as popular as ever.

Are you saying that you stuff the bell pepper with the cottage cheese
mixture and then eat it like an open faced sandwich? Mixing cucumber
and tomato (and other things in) sounds good, but it would be more
like a spread for me or something to scoop up with squares of the bell
pepper. In fact, I might try that tomorrow. I was looking at Boursin
recipes today. Take some of that seasoning and combine with the
cucumber/tomato mixture.

Jamie Lee is 54. She's still pretty. I don't know about her, but I
wear very little makeup these days. Used to be I wouldn't leave the
house without it. Then one day when I was about 40 I called my mom. I
said "Okay, I'm officially old. I just bought 'age defying' makeup."
We had a good laugh. I can't believe how much time (not to mention
money) I used to spend putting on makeup.

My favorite way to eat cottage cheese is mixed with an equal
amount of sour cream, maybe topped with a little salt and pepper.
Veggie cottage cheese is especially good that way.

I always wear nail polish and perfume. Once in a while I'll use lip gloss.
But I quit using everything else. For one thing, my skin is so pale, I had
trouble finding a foundation that matched. And then I started having the
eye problems. I can't use any kind of cosmetic around my eyes because I
keep getting irritation or blepharitis. And that's not just the things that
you think of as eye makeup. Even foundation or cover-up under my eyes would
cause a problem. Now I have to wash my eyes at least once daily with baby
shampoo to stave off the problems. But once in a while even that is not
enough and I have to go to the eye Dr. for medicine. Yes, I could use blush
but I don't really think that I need it.

I have also noticed that quite a lot of women here do not use any makeup at
all. And those who do, often wear only mascara.

My favorite use of cottage cheese is when I'm having a lunch or dinner
from a salad bar - cottage cheese is usually available and turns a salad
from being just rabbit food into being a meal for me.

It's still widely available in the grocery stores here on the Right
Coast.

Well, judging from all the replies, it looks like cottage cheese is still doing just fine; thank you very much. It may have just been my husband's problem about finding it in short supply. The store clerk did tell him that they don't have much call for it though. I just seemed to forget about it for years, but it looks like others haven't. I also love it with cukes, pears, peaches and salsa.....I had forgotten about the salsa!

Once in a while if I am in a sweet mood, I'll mix in a little strawberry

We wear Kroger out on the gas discount. Sitting at .50 off a gallon
currently. Then they give the 10% seasoned citizen discount. 100 extra
gas points to fill a prescription etc. They treat us pretty good...and
its close enough to the house a person could crawl there and back home
fairly quick. Never tried cottage cheese with berries but its on the
agenda. Had some imbred kin by marriage from down in Wise County one
time who claim to put brown sugar on it..gag..lol.
