I see him on the PBS stations on occasion. There's no telling if they're
replay episodes. You win an Emmy and disappear?

I had PBS for a few months in Dec and January I believe. He was on there.
Lidia. and a few others that aren't on foodnetwork.
It was nice to see a few new ones instead of my favorites on foodnetwork.

But everything is a trend it seems no matter what channel. I used to love
the 'how to' painting (art) shows on PBS; I don't believe there is one
anymore or if there are, none that I would watch. Now they have the VHS
tapes for $20-$30 each if you want to buy them.

Yes, I liked him (as a happy little person). He painted ' happy little
trees.' It seems that when I got PBS a few months ago I saw that he was on
there or going to be on there. Now that I don't get PBS (over the airwaves
with a High Definition set-top box, as it konked out with 3 months or so -
it was el cheapo and couldn't be repaired and weren't carrying it anymore),
I would have to subscribe to PBS to get it. PBS package would have to
include the other stations (in my area) CBS NBC ABC and I would never watch
them - ever.

Dish did carry PBS-U which carried Julia's programs, but I think PBS would
not renew with Dish, or vice-versa; don't know the reasons.
But I do miss not getting the cooking shows on PBS that I don't get now, and
I loved the water-color (English watercolorists) programs. I did buy a few
videos of one of my favorites, but it's been too long to remember who right
at the moment.

An aside, FIL has some paintings he brought from his family (to his
senior-living apartment) home that a friend of his did years ago in the Bob
Ross tradition. FIL loves these paintings -- they don't even come close to
Bob's expertise. They are rude and crude, but obviously the paintings are
dear to FIL's heart.

Another aside: When Bob Ross died, it certainly was a loss for many people
and I, for one (probably only) wondered often (and still do) if flipping
that turpentine - or whatever was in that brush -- he flipped into the air
continuously, contributed to his demise. So many artists have been
affected by their paints.

You know, I've put off buying a ceramic knife because I'm so clumsy that
it's not worth the cost just so I can amputate my fingers. I like my "as
seen on TV" cheap-o mandolin with the safety food handle.

PBS will always have "how to" shows on painting... my neighbor was the
one who went to national parks to paint scenery. He and his partner
broke up last year and he hasn't filmed any new shows to my knowledge.
In fact, I think he has already sold that shiny vintage aluminium
trailer he restored to use on those trips.

I saw Martin Yan of "Yan Can Cook" on TV recently. He was one of the
judges in one of them cooking contest shows, possibly 'Iron Chef'.

When I had PBS for a few months (maybe 3?) I saw no "how to painting" shows.
Maybe I did and I don't remember because they were so terrible, I don't
know; but certainly not worthy of 'my' time.
Remember Zoltan Szabo -- are you Canadian? Did he have a show? People who
were noteworthy of remembering their names -- oh yes, now I remember the one
I liked from England "Ashley" who had pictures in the Queen's collection
(Of course, we all know what a art appreciator, she is?). Several of the
people on the 'how to' shows had books, sold their paintings at good prices,
and knew how to teach and inspired you. I saw none of this at all on PBS
those few months I was on. Just go to PBS and put in the search 'art' and
you will see their lack of art in any form.

:) I have absolutely no idea. I don't watch that type of show.
Maybe because they aren't interesting to me, I feel like I see one
every time I turn to PBS.

In St. Louis, 3pm Saturday is painting show time. Currently is
One-stroke Painting with Donna Dewberry. Before it was some Irish guy.

Lots of flowers and stuff, I think. I don't watch it. The only painting
show I watched was the old Joy of Painting.

The Cartoon version of The Boondocks had a Bob Ross clone in one
episode, he even had a license plate that read, "HAPPY TREES".

Hello all. I am wondering why people in this ng don't normally change
subjects in the header line using "Was:." Not a complaint, I'm just sort
of curious - changing sub heads seems to have been the norm in usenet for
quite some time (at least since I've been around usenet, very late 80's.)

I guess by this time, you've also figured out that every news group
has its own culture. This ng has drifted into the habit of not
changing subject lines as the thread drifts. You're posting from a
university, so equate it with all those emails you get with gobs of
unstripped headers. Same mentality, older crowd.

Headers are the "from", "to", "subject", "date" and other information
you may or may not know how to read at the beginning of a forwarded
email, Dee.

Yes, I used to go to "Message source." but I must've not gleaned anything
useful for myself from it; stopped doing it when I quit doing so much
genealogy.

Lordy, forwarded mail is the worst! And those that send you a nothing
verse, along with sending it to everyone that is in their address book.
This happens in genealogy - cousins coming out of the woodwork to send you a
cheery little not.

If I send anything to undisclosed recipients, I will always send it BCC. I
suppose that does not show up in the message source, as you say.
There is nothing I can do (sigh!) to get my cousins to do it, though. It
doesn't matter if I ask them or not. Some cousins do fade away at this
request.

Thanks,
Dee Dee

I never cared for her weirdness much, but I liked her in Six Feet Under
