To quote Rodney King.........
"Why Can't we all just get along?"

There are those of us who use canned soup, generic even, not always
Campbells, in their cooking while there are those who shudder at the mere
mention of it.
There are those who use Crisco and LIKE to use it in their cooking (we won't
even go to what other uses there are for it) and those who feel that they
are killing themselves by using it. The same with butter and margarine.

Guess what, there are those of us with all sorts of health concerns, my
cholesterol is high (an inherited trait) and I am a diabetic. One diet I
was given I was told to go high carb low protein, the other high protein and
low carb. Guess what, crucifierous vegetables affect my colitis.......so
what is my option? The air diet......take deep breaths until I die of
starvation. I try to moderate what I eat, but hey, like everyone else, I
have my problems with it......

Based on the recent diatribes on here, should I pull up my soap crate, climb
on board and tell all and sundry MY diet is best. Yeah, right, I'll start
ducking the flying fruit now. If it works for you, more power to you. If
asked about your dietary choices, answer, but don't shove it down my
throat......I happen to like deep fried chicken livers cooked in Crisco,
okay. I like them, don't eat them regularly though.

Get over yourselves and make this a better new year for the rest of us.

Thank you.

-ginny
(as she climbs down off the soap crate and puts it up for the next user)

MY new years resolution: Finding a way to get all the spam about nikes,
purses, big boobs, pecker extensions and rough anal sex sent to the MI5 guy
and off newsgroup. Let him get spammed to death under Scotland Yard.

Ahh! I remember 20 years ago when you could go into Popeye's fried
chicken joints, order chicken livers and they would tell you you had a
ten minute wait. They were always fried fresh, not left under a light
like the rest of the chicken parts. They were right tasty.

I'm sixty. I don't see or hear "pecker" much any more. Thanks for making

I have brought the "kitchen" upstairs to my computer, especially during
virtual cookins ... I do my prep on a little folding table right here in
front
of my pc. I do have a laptop but I have never used it for recipes or
anything like that.

You do realize that Rodney King is a total loser?

"He was arrested again for spousal assault in 1999. In 2001, he was
then ordered to undergo a year of drug treatment after pleading guilty
to three counts of being under the influence of PCP and one of
indecent exposure.
On August 27, 2003, he was arrested again on similar charges as in
1991. It is alleged that King was speeding, ran a red light while
under the influence of alcohol and failed to yield to police officers,
and then slamming his SUV into a house and breaking his pelvis."

Like mixing up pig slop.

Hydrogenated shortening is indefensible. when you buy it, it's just
as bad as buying a bag of weed from a guy who you KNOW sells crack to
grade school kids. The companies who make it are as bad as the folks
who push tobacco.
Do you think that the execs of the companies who make that crap eat
it? I doubt it. Shit, they KNOW better.

> The same with butter and margarine.

There are margarines these days that are safe, even safer than
butter. Problem is, there are too many stupid folks out there who
don't have enough brains to tell the difference.

> I happen to like deep fried chicken livers cooked in Crisco,

What is it about the Crisco? Why do you even keep something in your
pantry that is being banned by state legislatures? It's like lead in
paint. There's no excuse.

>
> Get over yourselves and make this a better new year for the rest of us.

Maybe it'd be a better year if mindless little Girl Scouts didn't
peddle death.
Maybe it'll be better for millions of kids who aren't served chicken
nuggets soaked in Crisco-type shortening, though their real better
year will be decades in the future when they don't need coronary
artery surgery. Defending Crisco in 2008 is as dumb as denying global
climate change was a few years ago.

they don't seem to in the least mind what is being written about
MI-5. Hmmm?

You think that I'm too optimistic about the future of labor. Perhaps
you're right.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------

in no particular order:

Divided We Fall

A crumpled application
You won't hire me 'cause I'm white
I'm someone too
I'm just like you
Regular people, white

Chorus:

And we fall
Divided we fall
And we fall
Divided we fall

(Chorus)

I'm someone too
I'm just like you
I need a job
My kids need food
I'm someone too, and
Just like you
I'm a man

(Chorus)

We wake, we work
We sleep, we die
We vote, and hey
We learn to lie
We vote, we pray
Our kids aren't gay
I hope, I pray
My kids aren't gay

And if you listen closely,
You can hear
The laughter of the rich
They like it when we call each other
Nigger, fag and bitch

(Chorus)

God must like you
You get your due
We wake, we work
We sleep, we die
We vote, and hey
We've seen your lies
We're men, we're not
We're black, we're white
We're straight, we're gay
And now I say,
"We're not like you"

Dust to Dust

You thought, you could cut the worker's pay
And take, all our benefits away
But these machines, they were made by workers' hands
Dust to dust
We don't ask, we demand

Sabocat is on the prowl tonight
Kitty cat has found the claws to fight

You thought, you could do just as you pleased
And drive, the union to its knees
But your wealth, it was made by workers' hands
Dust to dust
We don't ask, we demand

You laughed, at their chants and labor songs
You'll beg for mercy when they're there inside your
homes
'Cause all you own, it was made by workers' hands
Dust to dust
We don't ask, we demand

Sabocat is on the prowl tonight
Kitty cat is ready for the fight

Fight!

Class

Chorus

Here in America, we've got class
Don'tchya ever let 'em tell ya
that we don't got class
My dream, that every worker
feels a part of their class
Here in America, we've got class

Middle class again made the news
And they wantchya to think
That's me and you
But when I look around, I see just two
The ones who own
And the ones who do

(Chorus)

Happy darkie just lost his smile
He ain't gonna help
Assuage your guilt
You're gonna have to face the fact
That there's a rat
In the house Jack built

(Chorus)

Middle class again made the news
And they wantchya to think
That's me and you

Mayday

Hey, Chairman Greenspan
How do you sleep at night?
Can your dreams be gentle?
Is profit always right?

Mayday!
There ain't no lifeboats
We'd better save ourselves
Mayday!

Capitalism
Like an old Missouri mule
Strong and hard working
It'll kick as surely too.

Hey, Captain Greenspan
How do you sleep at night?
No, you're not mistaken
I am tryin' to pick a fight.

Are we on unsinkable
America today?
In case of the unthinkable,
Who's gonna have to pay?

Mayday!
Put out a mayday
We're callin' mayday

Pathetic Old Men

With carnal knowledge,
I take it all in
You're try'n to tell me,
My love is in sin
I'm getting tired of
Pathetic old men

Frustrated daddies,
We know where you've been
You're try'n to tell us
That love is a sin
I'm really tired of
Pathetic old men

While you're equating
these pleasures with sin
I'll be enjoying
the Daughters of Men

Frustrated daddies,
Pathetic old men
Keep try'n to sell us,
With love as a sin
We're all fucking sick of
Pathetic old men

Welcome to Our World

I do what you let me, girl,
I do what I can
I have to confess that
I'm a yes man

Step on in
Welcome to our world
We're all suckers for pretty girls
Just lay back
And let me . . .
If you ain't bein' kissed now
What a waste!

I don't have no guilt, baby,
I don't give a damn
Just give me the chance and
I'll say, "yes ma'am."

Who are the myst'ry boys, and,
Which one is where?
It's feelin' too good, you
prob'ly don't care.

Who are the myst'ry boys?
You know how to play. Don't just
Want you to come, we
Want you to stay

Pretend Again

Where love and death have played amends
Knowing there's nothingness at the end
Then you'll say, "Do you wanna pretend again, that
we're in love?"
La la la la la,
faux love
La la la la la,
faux love
La la la la la, for
We both knew it was all pretend
But you can't deny it was sweet, my friend.

Every breath is another friend
Knowing there's nothingness at the end
So I say, "Do you wanna pretend again?"

And we can do it again and again
Fall in love again and again and again
Then I'll say, "Do you wanna pretend again,
And nevermore
You see, I know I won't be bored
With mental images I've stored
And I'll sigh, can't go back again
One more smile for the living end

And we can do it again and again
Yes, we can do it again and again
Oh, we can do it again and again

You're not pro-life

Coathanger days

Bryan, if I wanted to eat white arsenic to keep my complexion clear,
it's none of your business. If a million people wanted to do it,
they'd
do it no matter how much you railed against it here on r.f.c.

Sorry, Virginia, I knew your attempt to prevent a flame war would
start one.

"Why can't we all just get along?" Because we're human beings. Not
getting along is pretty much what we do. The Crisco tribe has always
been at war with the Lard tribe, and they will always be at war with
them.

You left out those of us who use ALL of the above at various times and
won't be changing anytime soon. As in anything, moderation is key.
The rants against Crisco are tiresome and unconvincing.

Butter and lard fall into one camp, Crisco and most margarines into
the other. True, there are healthy margarines made these days.
They're a bit lacking aesthetically, but otherwise OK.

You miss the point about tinned soup. As "soup," it is just not very
good. As an "ingredient," it puts you in the same category as Sandra
Lee, pseudo-cook.

That is a trite line of bullshit. An old wives tale repeated by old
wives.

That's because you don't listen to scientific evidence.

Why do you think that it is illegal in some cities to use it in
restaurants?
Do you believe that lead paint causes developmental disorders?

The evidence is the evidence, whatever you *choose* to believe.

Would this be the same "evidence" that said we'd all curl up and die if
we ate more than two eggs a week? One can make "evidence" say anything
they want if they are bent to do so. Theories change frequently enough
that "moderation" is the only sane advice I trust. Old wives may say it
too because they're old enough to realize the sense of it since they're
living it.
You do realize that Crisco doesn't even contain Trans Fats anymore,
right? I could count on one hand the times I use shortening in a year.
I'm convinced that such occasional use is not going to make a difference
in my total health.

And ignorant. Of course moderation, over indulging in fats of any
type is unhealthful. And hydrogenated vegetable shortening is more
healthful than any animal fats... the same people deriding Crisco are
the ones who post recipes with pounds of butter, quarts of cream,
barrels of cheese, and eggs up the kazoo. Crisco has always been a
leader with modern trends/science.

Not being from the USA, it's understandable that you take this the
wrong way.
I wish I knew where the footnoted version is. V1 refers to a US Senate
race where the Republican, well here:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=KIyewCdXMzk

I shift perspective during the song. The racist, sexist, homophobic
presentaions of the verses are punctuated by the refrains, "And we
fall..."
The crescendos do the line, "And if you listen closely..." the point
of the song being that working class unity is eroded by those "isms,"
much to the benefit of the economic elite.

The return from the bridge, "God must like you..." is a reference to
Calvinian predestination, and it's relevance to political economy as
described by Max Weber:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Protestant_Ethic_and_the_Spirit_of_Capitalism
The line is said cynically, and followed by lines such as:

We've seen your lies
We're men, we're not
We're black, we're white
We're straight, we're gay
And now I say,
"We're not like you"

The realization that economic class unites workers, and that we choose
not to be working class chumps.

More than you think, and what would I need to know beyond the Liberals
being a party of "greed is good"?
They're of the same ilk as our Republicans, British Tories, Spanish
PP, center right.
They're an IDU* party.

Do you keep PB in the larder regularly?

Do you keep PB in the pantry or fridge

How much do you consume in say 1 year; 1 pound, 5 pounds, 10 pounds,

Which type (smooth/chunky/natural/all of the above).

Which brand is your regular; Jif, Peter Pan, Skippy, Smuckers, store

Do you eat PB from the jar... if so do you leave a thin coating inside

Hmm, you're not privy to most folk's home cooking. There's nothing
cooking (home or otherwise) about dishes containing condensed cream
soup, pizza pockets, and lean coozine.

She admited that, that's why she began with "YOUR chili"... and it's
not possible to make chili from preground mystery meat, no matter what
packet of chili mix is added, it's still sloppy joe, very sloppy.

I consider it 'sinful' and 'unnatural' to try to shove your belief system
down my throat. Get me mad enough and I will cover it with Crisco (normally
I would do it viciously and dry, but since Crisco sets him off so badly)
and plant your belief system right up there.

Bobo believes Crisco will kill us in the end. As long as he doesn't have to
pay for our medical bills or contribute to our 'planting' (hey, even when
solicited online you can say no) what's it to him.

Let's see, I am channelling my spirit guide now, he tells me that by the end
of 2008 Bobo will die by Crisco poisoning........someone will hunt him down
and cover him with it.......he will smother.......it will be a horrid
affair.........His body will be found behind a low rent pizza shop on a hot
summer day, as the sun rises overhead, the Crisco melts off and runs in the
gutter, the neighbors don't notice as they are used to grease running out of
the back of the shop. The police are stymied as the Crisco was the key to
'whodunnit' and the evidence melted away.....all that was left was a body in
an alley starting to stink and draw flies and the people on r.f.c.....going
'has anyone hear from Bobo lately?'

Pretty strong, considering you started this thread by asking, 'can't
we all just get along?' He can post whatever he believes: it's up to
you to decide to get mad.

Personally, I don't see the harm in people posting their favorite
diets, their favorite food and health issues/fads as well as their
favorite recipes and kitchen tools. It's all grist for the mill,
doesn't mean we're not 'getting along,' just means people have
different ideas. I can as easily ignore Bobo's Crisco rants as I
can the Atkins posts and the low carb posts and the canned soup
recipes and whatever else is irrelevant to my own particular
interests. Reading rfc has become a treasure hunt, searching through
all the spam and personalities to find what interests me (i.e., food
and cooking).

What I do find annoying are the humorless folks who constantly fail to
notice that what they're enraged at at the moment was obviously meant
as a joke. Experience in this group seems to show there's no cure for
the affliction, so that's just another category of posts to
ignore. -aem

Not so. I'm just tired of the 'I'm right - your wrong' crowd and asked a

Sorry to piggyback, but I don't see the original message. Regarding the
MI5 guy, here are some tips I've seen in other newsgroups. They help
depending on the particular newsreader. My news service is apparently
killing them at the source, so it hasn't been a problem lately.

No porn; it's not hooked up to the internet. And yes he closes the door! I
don't want to smell *that*! :~)

I've /finally/ figured out a martini that I like. I've tried them before
and they were too much like just a cold glass of gin. Ice makes it
worse. Adding a little more dry vermouth doesn't help much. Then I
tried using 1/2 ounce of *sweet* vermouth plus 1/2 ounce of dry vermouth
with about 4 ounces of chilled Booth's gin (90 proof.) Bingo. That's
what it needed; more vermouth and a tiny bit of sweetness.
