Boogers On A Stick

Recipe By :
Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Halloween Holidays
Spooky Swamp Snacks

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
Ingredients:
1 Jar cheez whiz -- (8 ounces)
Green food coloring
25 pretzel sticks
Waxed paper
1 Long handled spoon
Platter

Formatted by KCO...@worldnet.att.net

Method:
Melt the cheeze whiz in the microwave or on top of the stove, according to
directions on the jar. Allow the cheese to cool slightly in the jar.

Using a long handled spoon, carefully stir about three drops of green food
coloring into the warm cheese, using just enough to turn the cheese a
delicate snot green.

To form boogers: Dip and twist the tip of each prtezel stick into the
cheese, lift out, wait twenty seconds, then dip again. When cheese lumps
reach an appealingly boogerish size, set pretzels, booger down, onto a
sheet of waxed paper.

Allow finished boogers on a stick to cool at room temperature for ten
minutes or until cheese is firm. Gently pull boogers off waxed paper and
arrange on a serving platter. Serves 5 to 6 booger buddies.

Sicko Serving Suggestion: Place a bowl of chunky red salsa in the center
of the platter so that guests can turn plain boogers into bloody ones.

Ok if you're still with me, the next item is a brain cookie. You colour a
icebox type dough a sickening purplish/gray shade and then push the dough
through a colander to make extruded spaghetti shapes. Then you loosely pat
spoonfuls of the dough into brain shapes (well at least most kids' notions
of how a brain is shaped). I think I experimented with different kitchen
tools with this one and ended up using one of those collapsable steamer
things to make the spaghetti.

For this you will need white bread, a pack of mixed bug shaped lollies and
milo. First, spread your slices of bread with margerine or butter. Then,
sprinkle the buttered slices with milo until completely coated. Carefully
stick the bugs firmly into the milo and place remaining slice of bread on
top. Voila! you have bugs in dirt sandwhiches!

1 Package rigatoni pasta -- (10oz)
2 Cans squirtable cheese spread
1 Small Jar barbecue sauce
16 Whole black peppercorns -- (16 to 20)
1 carrot

Formatted by KCO...@worldnet.att.net

Cook pasta according to directions on package. Rinse the
pasta in cold water.

To make snakes:Covering one end of the rigatoni with
your finger (to prevent leakage), carefully fill each
piece of pasta with cheese spread. Place six to
eight cheese-filled rigatonis end to end on a serving
platter, in a realistically curvy snake shape.
Using a toothpick, spread lines of barbecue sauce
along the top of each snake for markings. To form heads,
use barbecue sauce to glue two black peppercorn
eyes onto the end opposite the tail of each snake.

Wash, dry and carefully peel skin off carrot.
When completely clean of skin, make one more peeling for
each snake you have formed. At the narrow end of each
peel, carefully cut out a long, thin triangle. These
are your snakes forked tongues. Position tongues.

Cheesecloth
White sugar
Warm water

Black and white felt for eyes (or purchase

Scissors -- aluminum foil,
small jar or bottle

Formatted by KCO...@worldnet.att.net

Make a mixture of about 2 cups warm water with 1 cup white sugar. Stir to
dissolve. While sugar is dissolving make a form to make your ghost. I used
a small jar covered with aluminum foil in the shape of a ghost. Once sugar
has completely dissolved soak pieces of cheesecloth in mixture. Remove and
drape over "ghost form". Keep layering until you have about 3-4 layers of
cheesecloth over the entire form. Allow to dry a minimum of overnight. May
take longer. Once dry remove form from underneath. Your ghost should be
quite firm. Decorate with eyes, nose, a hat or whatever you choose. These
make great Halloween decorations for dinner tables, at your doorway or on
your office desk.

Take strips of newspaper and soak in wallpaper paste. Use to cover top
half or so of blown up balloon. Do just a few layers and let dry over
night. Then add more layers. Let dry. Remove balloon (burst if necessary)
and get BIG sheets of paper (whole sheets from a newspaper work). Soak the
whole sheet and drape over the shell you have made, letting it fall in
folds. You will have to have the shell you made held off the surface you
are working on by putting something like a 2-litre soda bottle under it.
Let the sheet dry and maybe add another top. Paint the finished work white
or with luminous paints and cut out or paint eyes - - there, a ghost!!

Craft/Handmade Jack-O-Lanterns

Recipe By :
Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Halloween Holidays
Crafts

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
**NONE**

Halloween and pumpkins are so inseparable it's hard to imagine one without
the other,

but this project which uses paper lanterns is just as fun and versatile as
carving a face

on the real thing, and safer. No sharp knives or open flames are needed,
and these

handmade Jack-O-Lanterns can be saved and used again next year.

(Note adults should handle the electric bulbs adn wiring.)

Step 1. To make the hanging pumpkin lanterns, you will need the
following: paper lanterns in assorted shapes and sizes; acrylic paint in
yellow, green, and orange; small paint brushes; a thick black marker; and
hanging lights designed for outdoor use. (available at Home Depot).

Step 2. Open up the paper lanterns and decide what kind of face each
should wear. Here, the small round ones most closely resemble a pumpkin,
so they have the traditional carved pumpkin features. The boxy lantern
deserved a scowl; the oval one seemed puffed up, so it has a whistling
pucker and inquisitive eyes. Carefully draw these features with a pencil.

Next
paint the lantern surface avoiding the pencil marks. Test the paint on a
small area first as it may need to be diluted. Be careful not to wet the
paper to much as it can weaken and tear. Hang the wet lantrens on a
clothesline to dry.

Step 3. When dry, use a smaller paintbrush to add the facial features.
It's better not to dilute the paint for this step as it may drip. Allow
the paint to dry before using the black marker to outline the features.

Step 4. Lastly, insert a low-watt bulb and hang indoors or outside. If
necessary, use tape or twisties to attach cord to the wire frame in the
lantern.

Apple-Bobbing: is a Halloween classic. To
make it a group game you'll need a timer,
a basket of small apples, and a dishpan of
cool water. (For easy cleanup, put the pan
on a large towl.) Float six apples in the water.

Divide the guests into two teams, one on each
side of the basin. Then have two players--one
from each team--bite and remove as many
apples as possible from the water in one
minute. (Part of the fun is bumping heads!)

When time runs out, each team gets one point
for each apple removed. Then the next two
players take a turn, starting again with six
apples. Give the winning team a treat or prize.

To keep clothes or costumes dry, use clothes-
pin to hold a towel arund each child's neck.

is another favorite game to play for halloween. One child is
appointed ghost (much like "It" in games of tag). A swing set or tree
serves as the Graveyard and a picnic table or deck is the Base.

The object of the game is to not get tagged. Everyone counts, eyes closed,
"one o'clock, two o'clock ..." until they reach twelve o'clock.
(Meanwhile, the ghost hides.) After yelling "Midnight!" everyone must run
from base to touch the graveyard. The kids continue to run around the yard
looking for ghost, shrieking "Ghost in the Graveyard!" if the spot him.
The ghost is free to run wherever he wants until he tags another player,
who then becomes the ghost.

Ingredients:
1 C. water
2 C. sugar
3/4 C. light corn syrup
1 Tbsp. butter
a few drops food coloring to match flavor
of candy
Flavoring Oils:
1/4 Tsp. oil of peppermint or cinnamon
1 Tsp. oil of orange or lime

Formatted by KCO...@worldnet.att.net

Method:
To heighten fruit flavors, add 1 teaspoon powdered citric acid.

Bring water to a boil in a large heavy pan. Remove from heat. Add sugar,
corn syrup and butter. Stir until dissolved. Return to heat. When boiling,
cover 3 minutes so steam can wash down any crystals on side of pan.
Uncover and cook at high heat, without stirring, to the hard crack stage,
300 degrees.

Remove candy mixture from heat and cool to 160 degrees. Add food coloring
and flavoring oil.

Have a slab or ghost molds prepared by brushing them with butter or oil.
If making lollipops, have stiffened lollipop cords on the oiled slab ready
to receive patties. If you have no molds, form into balls by pouring a
small amount of candy onto oiled slab. Keep remaining candy in pan over
very low heat. Cut candy on slab into squares and roll quickly into balls.
Continue to pour candy on the slab as needed, but do not scrape pan. If
you make lollipops, remove them from the slab just as soon as they are
firm so as not to crack them.

This is both a yummy treat and a great decoration to scare your friends.
Use a clean rubber glove. Make a strong cherry or other red jello by using
3/4 of the recommended amount of water. Hang the glove over the sink by
using clothes pins attached to thin strips of wood. When the jello has
cooled pour into glove and place in the deep freeze. Be careful not to
have the hand pressing against anything or it will ruin the shape. When
the jello is frozen cut the glove off using small scissors. Keep your
masterpiece in the fridge until ready to display.

found theunblanched variety look particularly creepy. You can add a bit of
redicing (ie.that translucent yuk that come in a tube) if you want a
bloodyfinger. I have experimented with this idea and found it better to make
animpression with the almond rather then bake them and "glue" the almonds
tothe finger afterwards with the "blood". This gives a new twist to the term
"finger foods".

Outside:
Hang a garlic strand on your front door.
Board up the windows with cardboard painted to look like wooden boards.
Attach spiders and creepy hands. Let some slime (from the toy department)
drip down. Replace the porch light with a black light bulb. Make a large
spider web out of white yarn (the black light with make it glow). If
leaving a pumpkin by the door or on the walkway, light with glow sticks or
a flickering flashlight (available just about anywhere during the season),
please don't use candles. It is too easy for a costume to catch on fire,
especially with small children. Suspend sheets from trees to act as
ghosts, use a balloon for the head.

Inside:
Remove all knick-knacks and clutter to give an empty feeling.
Cover the furniture with white sheets.
Sprinkle cornstarch on the tables to look like dust
Place plastic bugs about the room.
Place a skeleton in the closet.
Replace bulbs with low wattage and orange bulbs.
Put some slime on the mirrors.
Write backwards on the windows and/or mirrors with bar soap (not liquid
soap) to look like someone's trying to get out. Put out old towels or
black ones, so good one aren't ruined with makeup. Dry ice is popular but
it is so dangerous, rent a mist/fog maker for the evening or buy one to
use year after year.

Pea soup is a good full-meal-soup, easy to make the day before, and it's
very inexpensive

Here enough for six large helpings.

2 lbs split peas
Left over ham bone, 3 smoked pork hocks, a couple smoked turkey legs, or
3 smoked sausages sliced
8-16 allspice berries
3 bay leaves
2 cloves of garlic crushed
12-20 peppercorns
Salt to taste
4 carrots sliced
6 stalks celery sliced
4 medium potatoes cubed
1 onion diced (optional)

Add split peas to about five quarts of water. Add ham bone or other
meat. If using sausage - do not add now, but add later when you add the
vegetables. Add the spices and salt - they are much cheaper if
purchased in bulk at a co-op. Boil very slowly for 2-3 hours until the
peas almost dissolve. Add more water if it is too thick - I like mine
rather thick. Take out the ham bone or pork hocks, cool and remover the
meat and cut into chunks. Add the vegetables, meat from the bone, or
pork hocks, or sliced sausage. Boil slowly for 30 more minutes. It's
ready. It's better the next day. To heat up, you will probably have to
add more water since it thickens in the refrigerator. Great with warm
bread.
