Bridle horse training with Martin Black:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGY1p_Gy6u0&feature=channel

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFmRus56miQ&feature=related

Cowboy Dressage--this is an interesting site with some nice videos.

http://www.cowboydressage.com/home.html

This is something posted on the Chronicle comparing bullfighting with
one of the classic masters(note: there is no bull fighting in the
first three minutes of the Merlin video):

"Anything with Merlin, of course:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMLUEZhNP-k
Watch the ending with the bull, and how he ride one handed and is
holding the bandarilhas.

Then watch Nuno Oliveira
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfiTTyi2He8&feature=fvst
Note how he rides one handed, with the whip over his shoulder or up in
the air, as if it were a bandarilha or sword. Also, the way he allows
his body and head to bend into the turns. Totally different than
"competitive dressage" riding."

This cutter is freaking awesome:\
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZdGPpl5jZ4

Now, this is also from someone from the WP world commenting on a
dressage forum. She commented on how the very low headed horses were
not placing in the Congress this year, and she spoke about how slow
the trend of peanut rolling and excessively slow WP horses is, but
that it IS changing:

"It's interesting how it all went into the dumper. I had a front row
seat, and if you're interested, this is what I saw. Circa 1970, there
were two schools of western pleasure; the 16 h California bridle
horses who stayed on the west coast at regional big open shows and the
breed shows, and Texas and points East where the cutting horse warmup
was considered the epitome of good western pleasure (and you still
hear that - could be true) and that look won the WP classses. The
Texas/Eastern smaller, chunkier horses were not trained to go slow for
WP, more like ridden 2 hours or all night, whatever lenth of time it
took, to get them tired and they would just hang their heads out level
and roll along on a draped rein. (I moved to Colo then, saw all this,
and changed disciplines). A couple things happened: the AQHA World
Show started so the west coasters ventured east, and a rule was passed
that AQHA judges could not judge in their home state. So the
California bridle horses were now being judged by Texas/Eastern
standards, and the judges from elsewhere were wowed by the big
streamlined California horses and imported them East (Alisa Lark, dam
of Rugged Lark, was one) but wanted them to crawl along like the local
horses with heads down on a draped rein. You can imagine that a short,
thick horse can do this when tired, a big, more TB/cross horse falls
apart when asked to lope slow with head down on a draped rein when
tired. The big horses were now the preferred look as they could do the
all-around also. But, few could train the big horses to show fresh
like they had been on the West Coast (with above level heads and light
contact support), in the new low unnatural (for them) frame, so the
tactics and gimmicks to lower heads and slow the gaits started.

(Specialization has been a good thing for the breed show horses, as
now they are bred to have the right conformation for the physical
requirements of their classes.)

The bad era in WP was brought about, and eventually mostly rectified,
by changes in judging standards, and I see disheartening similarities
in Dressage and the discussions re Anky and RK on this board. What
wins at the highest levels is everything in the direction of a sport.
Posters here are asking why they should breed the best horses they
can, hope they make the big time, only to see them possibly be
subjected to unacceptable treatment, in their breeder's eyes. Just
like I thought while watching WP, if that is what it takes to win,
don't wanna play. The low point for me was watching a World Champion
WP horse lope up to get his trophy with ears pinned flat to his head.
Nope, and many like me voted with their feet. It took 20 years to hit
bottom in number of participants, and another 10 years to get better,
after changes in judging finally started to take hold. The relevence
to dressage is that horse sport disciplines are pyramid shaped: The
few elite at the top are supported by the pros and serious amateurs in
the upper middle and the bulk of lower level riders below. If the
dream of achieving the top, or even being able to watch in person the
top elite riders and horses and admiring what you see, is trashed,
then people that make up the sport base will go elsewhere.

Reining did not start big, it was much less prestigeous (sp?) than WP
years ago. The breed show trainers who could not stomach what it took
to train a winner in WP switched to reining, and their numbers helped
fuel the purse money and rapid growth of that class in direct inverse
porportion to the decline of numbers in WP. Just sayin'."

AND

"When I was doing reining (1984-ish), trainers were begging entries to
make a 10 horse class, while western pleasure had 30 - 40 entries. As
WP got worse and worse, one by one, the trainers started disappearing,
and were found at the new all-reining competitions, and this was
before reining was a big deal. It got so that by 2000, reining at an
AQHA show had 60 entries per class, while the WP had ~8 per class. But
most of the all-around trainers I used to know at the horse shows are
no longer there unless the show has big reining classes - they show
reiners exclusively now."

So . . . there you have a view from someone who knows more than
me. :-0

But I thought this was an interesting discussion and sort of spun out
some various bits of it--anyone care to chime in?

And people--don't get your panties in a wad. We are in grave danger of
losing a VERY valuable member of the wreck who is sick of feeling like
her entire discipline is devalued and insulted by very loud voices
every time it comes into discussion.

Thanks so much for posting this! Illuminating and encouraging.

Well there is plenty of sensitivity to go around...You might be
surprised how many people have felt this way on and off through the
years on a variety of subjects.

I can name more than one person who left after being piled on a few
too many times, over politics, over weight issues, over discipline
issues. Remember sweet Jennifer Redhead? She left cause Sharon and her
religious crap all the time. Politics here has been rough on a lot of
people. Do you think anyone admits to stuff here when heads get
chopped as they do? Is anyone going to risk having their name slimed
all over the headers? Do you consider me a Valuable Person on the Rec?
Should I leave because some people here dont like my posts?

I have been thinking about the last few weeks here. I will always hate
current WP. I have always loved the bridle horses, the bullfighting
things that people have posted over the years. I dont hate Western. I
LOVE that Andreas reiner guy guy who rode that dressage horse so
fabulously. I hate AQHA WP. I think the AQHA does a crappy job of
policing its members and breeders. I should be able to say so without
being accused of excusing other bad behaviour.

Should I leave the rec because someone here calls me names and twists
what I say? Nah. Should anyone leave because they cant take hearing
aspects of their discpiline criticized? Its is still 'just' the
internet. If you are speaking about Joyce, she could call me in any
way shape or form and I would be there for her in a New York second.
Ditto most anyone here. She has really irritated me lately. So?
Obviously I have irritated her as well and we have said intemperate
things. So have many of us over the years.

The rec is almost like a family. My sister and I go back and forth but
would never let each other down. Thats how I feel about most of you
here. Hunter made a political comment that pissed me off. The shit hit
the fan. I apologized. Joyce accused me of being a right wing shill
and that I was virtually lying. I called truce and let it go. I have
said lots of things I regretted over the years. I bet so have alot of
other people. But its still The Rec. and I wont quit reading and
posting.

Ditto, exactly, and what she said.

Like a family, things can get dicey and tense, squabbles happen, and the
fan scatters manure. It's how people handle the aftermath that's
telling, if you want my opinion :)

you recognise this --- so don't go there with such vehemence.
I can tell you that from outside all the boxes you are in - its NOT pretty.

And have you found anyone justifying it ?
Neither of the two main Western posters certainly haven't yet you have been
at throats.
Maybe just type, save, re-read, think, and then post.
Most of the time what comes across when you are in this vein sounds pretty
manic to be honest.
But then you say you are fine, but remember the typed word can so easily be
misconstrued, when a few of us get the same message, maybe summats up at the
sending end.

All the folks involved are valued members of this community. it would sure
as anything be sad to lose anyone for this.

Now dressage needs to clean house. And it takes a long time to shift

Not at all shocked. I can name some names too. My point is mostly that
we are shrinking, and to remain the lovely group we are we need to
retain all our valued voices. There is a big difference between
calling for some sensitivity and civility and saying 'because X upset
Y, X should leave.'

You can say so, and should say so, but please to be aware that *how*
something is said has plenty of impact on how it is understood.

I have many times over the years been upset by what and how things
have been said to me, and unhappy about how others have been spoken
to--but my particular MO is to sit back, think it over, come up with
some sort of leveling or compromising communication, and send it out
there. As a professor of English who teaches written argument, I have
a duty to help my students best express their various points of view
with the best effectiveness and clarity possible, regardless of any
specific position they may have on any given topic. Part of being
effective is making sure your voice is heard without being dismissed
due to delivery--and we can complain about it all we want, but the
fact is that the opposition needs to feel some level of respect from
each side for ANY communication or progress to be useful.

> The rec is almost like a family. My sister and I go back and forth but

Family does not always hold together. For instance, my brother
recently got married. I found out that he was engaged when my Great
Aunt asked me if I was going to the wedding, and I found out it had
happened when my mother's cousin emailed to tell me she had a package
of letters that my mother had written her mother and mentioned she had
given half originals and half copies to my brother and was sending me
a mirror package. If I were on fire I doubt that he would bother to
pee on me to put it out.

I love the wreck, even when we get all feisty and over the top. I want
folks to get along, to enjoy each other's successes and commiserate
over the bad, and to appreciate our community. I'm not trying to drive
anyone away, but we should always be aware that even family ties can
be broken and discarded when the individuals do not feel they get more
positive than negative from it. We can never know how much stress or
how thinly stretched another person might be feeling, and our straw
might break that camel's back and they move on to seek a different
community.

What they said.

I still have a response in my "unsent" file to someone who took
umbrage at an offhand comment of mine and wrote a really nasty post
which insulted my horse, her ancestry (which includes Man O' War), me,
another group, and possibly my ancestry as well. I wanted badly to
send it, but decided it (and she) wasn't worth it. After noticing
later how many people seem to really fawn over her and that no one
defended me or told her she was overreacting, I figured maybe I was in
the wrong after all.

But I'm still here.

It never hurts to remember that some posts just never show up in some
places, for whatever reason. I sometimes end up responding to a response to
a response, because I never got the first couple. Just never showed. I
won't go to Google - takes forever and is too screwed up to even bother
with, so if it doesn't show up, I don't see it.

If you didn't respond, it's very possible that any number of people just
never saw it to respond to.

I sometimes go weeks without checking in. And then I might only read
a few threads. Anything turning into an argument (rather than a
discussion), I nearly always skip. Lengthy posts, I often skip. So I
miss a lot.

I doubt I saw the post Jeannie is referring to - doesn't ring a bell.

I don't recall it. And I might not have responded, anyway. In the unlikely
event I'm bothered by anyone dissing me or my horse, said party will know
about it in detail. It would never occur to me that anyone else would
respond on a matter of opinion like that. Now, misinformation presented as
fact, if someone caught that it would be nice if they responded (I would in
that situation - for the clarification to the rest of the world, if no other
reason), but somebody messing with me, or matters of opinion - nah, I'll
deal with it - if I even catch it.

Nothing sucks worse to the sort of person who makes rude remarks for no good
reason, than to get no response what so ever.

Yeah! :)

The exact phrase was "a singularly unimpressive mare of average
breeding." :p

In my unsent response is "Well, I'm *glad* she's un-Impressive." ;)

I agree. But the concern should be for all. Its not like I havent
taken alot of abuse over the years, in addition to giving it. I meant
my question..do you consider me a Valuable Addition? Does it bother
you when I, or Maureen, or Ruth, or the Shit Upon Person duJour, is
trashed here over and over by our resident stalker? Havent seen you
speak up against that. Or against Sharons incessant religion bashing.
Joyce certainly overreacted and started the name calling. I just hope
your plea for civility includes all posters.

Rec eq is a bunch of personalities bound together by a love of horses.
It is going to reflect human nature just like any office, like any
barn, like any family. I remember when I slapped out a post bashing
running martingales and you rightly took umbrage. And you were right,
of course. Just because I had seen them misused didnt meant that they
were only used by idiots. I apologized. We went on. The rec is also a
place where we should have to always be so careful. There are plenty
of moderated groups around. I read and post on them..but its nice to
have a place that we *can* vent.

the rec your family >;->

Since you've posted to the whole group, I presume everyone is invited to
answer? Mine's a Yes.

> Does it bother
> you when I, or Maureen, or Ruth, or the Shit Upon Person duJour, is
> trashed here over and over by our resident stalker?

Not really. It's difficult to be bothered by something I haven't read.

> Havent seen you speak up against that.

I tried the net-nanny schtick once. Privately ("do unto others", and all
that). That was also about twenty endless Septembers ago, when both I
and the world were younger, and involved some of the same people who
still post here. My efforts were, you might note, unsuccessful.

Doing the same thing while expecting a different outcome is a bumper-
sticker definition of insanity, yes?

Do private remonstrances not count? If you, personally, are not aware
of specific correspondence condemning another's poster's language or an
offensive post, then it doesn't exist? There's more to what goes on
than what you have personally observed or can Google. To hold someone
to task for not making a public stand regarding a specific poster or
post in response to that person making a public stand regarding ALL
posters and posts verges on the ridiculous.

> Or against Sharons incessant religion bashing.

Exactly how much rec.eq traffic do you think is appropriately addressed
to "correcting" inappropriate messages? I don't approve of Sharon's
religious obsessions, I have expressed that disapproval in the past.
Her behavior isn't under my control, I have done what I can do. I
refuse to cyber-stalk her, you, or anyone else just so everyone can see
how upright, forthright, and just plain right I am.

Sharon's antireligious bent disturbs me exactly as much as any other
poster's annoying quirks disturb me. (None of us make for completely
unalloyed reading pleasure, btw.) When sufficiently perturbed, I might
make an effort to object or provide counterpoint unless or until a "same
behavior, different outcome" scenario becomes obvious.

> Joyce certainly overreacted and started the name calling.

Joyce reacted very strongly, but I'm not convinced it was an
overreaction. It is difficult to have one's style of riding trashed by
"outsiders", even outsiders of long acquaintance.

"she started it" is about as juvenile (and common) an excuse as you'll
find on the 'net.

Google does not show changes of thread title at the header area--they
pretty much all spool down from the first one. I often have no idea
that a thread title has changed. In my prior newsreader, a change of
thread title appeared as a brand new thread. Sometimes when someone
changed a thread title I would not realize it was related to something
I had been discussing and miss the further discussion.

It basically has nothing to do with you or anyone else who is being

Why on earth do you keep asking me that? I have never suggested anyone
leave this newsgroup or any other.

> I do think there are double standards in play here.

I have called for a little more civility or for people to drop
aggressive topics MANY times over the years. I have called on people
to behave better in public and private plenty of times--and I very
much on purpose started a new thread, AND asked EVERYONE to be civil
in the discussion of the thread. That was not directed at ANY ONE
PERSON. It was directed to anyone who would like to jump into the
conversation. And I also suggested that there was more than one voice
at work, also. So why are you all het up and asking me if I want you
to leave, and suggesting that I am attacking your membership here and
devaluing you? I don't get it. I am trying to pour some oil on the
troubled waters.

Of course. I don't know how you could possibly think otherwise from my
comments.

You do get that some people are not worth responding to in their off
beat, wild expressions?

Why even bother? I don't even read those posts. What could possibly
change from engaging it other than increasing the volume?

I have most certainly called her on that on many occasions.

Of course it does. I don't know why you feel so singled out, honestly.
And quite frankly, since I personally felt insulted and attacked by
your political commentary, while I chose not to respond and personally
don't want to go there with name calling and whatnot, I am not going
to necessarily say she was over reacting by being doubly frustrated.
She might have responded with less obvious frustration and better
manners, but we all of us lose our temper sometimes.

I do understand the nature of communities, and how they can very much
support or explode. We don't need to treat each other with tongs, but
there is a point at which we cannot assume it will be all ok no matter
what we say in the heat of the moment.

Actually, Google does note subject changes. In fact, above your post

While it does just cascade everything under the original title, it
absolutely does notify one of a subject change.

What trashes the name Abby Kogler is the trash posted thereby.
You get hystrionic when anybody questions your defective and
deeply malicious ideology. You want to try to pretend to some

sweeping over entire worldwide groups of people, in equestrian

I don't see why you'd be in a position to tell anyone else what to
post or not.

It's that authoritarian, rather than authoritative, thing.

If someone chooses to post as that person pleases in a subject
line, in a message, wherever, you're too busy trying to control
that rather than perceive - much less learn anything from - it.

>did that. I know you dont feel like I 'deserve' to be trashed..so that

Being presented with disagreement with your myth-based
enmity with people and horses isn't an attack, Abby.

An attack is a missile hitting a stable and killing 80-some horses,
Abby. An attack is "Shock and Awe" taking out dwellings with
families inside them.

>would be a nice gesture..I have certainly been called lots of names

Oh boo fucking hoo, Abby.

You support destroying millions of lives for no good reason, and
as the wreckage is still smoking and the blood is still flowing, you
want to feel only all personally hurt and injured for the fact that
your proclivity to support mass murderers gets questioned.

I don't decide that any person would be 'good' or 'bad', but I'd
like to know why someone would support such violence.

I'd like to know what would prevent someone from learning
that two wrongs don't make a right.

I wish that everyone involved with others, including horses,
would display a genuine concern for all life.

>here, pretty much for speaking my mind and opinions, particularly
>lately..should I leave?

This stuff about =anyone= throwing a tantrum and shrieking
that they're going to stomp off is merely a symptom of the
self-centered inward preoccupation that precludes outward
direction of attention.

>I do think there are double standards in play here.

Well, some people just avoid reading things and then pretend
they'd know all about them, which isn't consistent.

Some people respond to posts they don't really read, just to
give themselves conniptions over totally imaginary insults.

[Hi Sue!]

It's a waste of time to wallow in self-pity and delude yourself
into a totally false sense of persecution, and that's time that
could be spent a lot better in focus on external realities.

>This just makes me so sad for you. I know I can always depend on my
>family.

That's all the more reason you should never want to destroy
the families of others, Abby. Please try to consider that fact.
[That's even if they're dark-skinned people overseas.]

You're not in a position to be 'sad' for that person, btw: that
person is doing a lot better if her posts are any indication.

>I agree. But the concern should be for all. Its [sic] not like I havent [sic]

Your sole concern seems to be with yourself, Abby.

You seem to believe that your preferences should be
unquestionable, as if a divine right.

You want to be such a big crybaby if you don't get
more consideration than you give to others.

>taken alot of abuse over the years, in addition to giving it. I meant

So you say you jave been posting abusively, Abby.

That's not productive.

Constructive criticism, for anyone who stll hasn't
grasped as much, is not an offense or affront.

I point out, for example, that obsequious genuflection
to such as the neocons might as well be satanism, not
as an insult, but as a challenge to the fawning servile
"good German" to reconsider that mindlessness.

>my question..do you consider me

It's still just all about you, isn't it, Abby. There's a whole
world out past the pinky you won't lift to put apostrophes
where others might appreciate them. Hope you have a look.
If you give even yourself due consideration, you'll have a look.

> a Valuable Addition? Does it bother

I suppose you could post something worthwhile, if you weren't
too busy with the self-centered, self-aggrandizing, self-ad-nauseam,
but that's not a suggestion that you should or shouldn't post, at all.

>you when I, or Maureen,

You mean the Maureen who considers it inappropriate to object
to torture killing [or else can't read for comprehension] ... the one

Do you know what the word means?

>Havent [sic] seen you

The person you're attempting to accuse, there, Abby, has indeed
written eloquently and constructively on important subjects here.

That person would most likely prefer to see you type apostrophes
where they're warranted, too, but obviously you can't bring yourself
to care about that.

Caring about the other person is something you may gain the ability
to do, Abby, if you can grow past your insecurity and inauthenticity.

>against that. Or against Sharons [sic] incessant religion bashing. [sic]

It's not 'bashing' to point out the fact that religion causes a lot of
robbery, mayhem, and murder [exactly as intended].

You're not being assaulted, Abby, when I inform you that using
religion or nationality or presence in proximity to resources can
not justify missile attacks on humans or horses, for example.

I'm actually hoping that you can get past your fear.

>Joyce certainly overreacted and started the name calling.

Abby: that's just totally inappropriate.

When a spoiled child blurts "but he started it!", that child is
under the false impression that the misbehaviors (even those
merely imagined) of anyone else would somehow justify his
own misbehaviors. That's an unwholesome notion, Abby.

If somebody tells you that your slip is showing, they're doing
you a favor, btw.

>I just hope
>your plea for civility includes all posters.

You're afraid, so you are desperate for control, but if you get

How about a nice Pinot Grigio?

Hey, so what did you think of the bull fighting horse and Nuno O. side

Haven't yet viewed the vids, unfortunately, these days I make you look
like an amateur in the busy department, starting with 10 hours weekly
mandatory overtime until Xmas. Why do they ALWAYS impose OT in the
busiest season of the year? Gone are my lovely off Fridays. :( That
was on top of an already jam packed schedule.

I'm hit and run here mostly and someone actually de-friended me on FB
presumably because I have about 100 requests pending for
Farmville/Farmtown gifts among other things. The problem with that
stuff is that it is an ENORMOUS time sucker. I like FB because I
quickly see what friends are up to but I just really don't have the time
to participate with all those apps. Not to mention, my laptop has been
down for 2 weeks and I just haven't had time to fix it so I grab time on
the kid's computer but it is inconvenient.

Ok, so the started with a wine and ended with a whine. :)

I hope to view the videos this weekend... it was on my list of
want-to-dos. I have been keeping up with the gurly status updates
you've been posting and I hope that Susan's Dusty is OK today.

A few years ago, I bought a used Western saddle to use with ski
joring. I enjoyed it so much, that I would toss it on for trail
rides, and it also came in handy for mounted shooting. But I only had
to tack up Linus once in it to understand the appeal of smaller horses
for western riding.

The saddle weighs a ton! And trying to heave it up onto Linus was a
struggle. No quick slinging the saddle on Linus and loping off into
the sunset. More like, drag a bucket or mounting block over, climb
onto that, THEN heave the saddle on. :-) I know, I know, I'm a wimp.

Then there was the whole learning how to dismount without catching my
winter jacket on the saddle horn, leaving me dangling by my horse's
side, feet not touching the ground and praying Linus would stand still
long enough for me to extricate myself from that position....I was
really wishing at that moment in time that Linus was short enough for
at least my feet to touch the ground while my coat was caught on the
saddle horn. Funny how after all these years I had to relearn how to
dismount all over again!

Just put boriums on Suzi Q all-around this morning. She's going to be
all set for ski joring season! :-) She looks right at home in
western tack:

Note how he rides one handed, with the whip over his shoulder or up in

his body and head to bend into the turns. Totally different than
"competitive dressage" riding."

I bought a saddle that is the "Lady" version of the Bobs KR reiner, and
though it might be a pound or two lighter, I don't see that much
difference: I used to have the regular one, so I know. This one still is
a pain to carry around, and even with a 15'2H horse, it's not an easy
toss, especially if you don't want to just toss it up there. And then
once you got it there, if it isn't in the right place making placement
adjustments are really difficult from that vantage. I'll have to try
that mounting block trick. :)

Been there, done that! Funny how even the shorter ones can be a bit too
tall when you're dangling off the saddle horn. Laughing hysterically as
you're hanging there doesn't help, either.

Thankfully, Tico has a sense of humor, too. It was at the end of a
lesson, so it also meant a witness to my conundrum, and she was doing
some serious giggling, too.

However. it was also opportune in that she was able to hoist me up a bit
so I could disengage myself. Lord knows I was laughing too hard to help
myself.

Jeannie! Here?! Did that happen here?! I must have missed those
posts. *I* didn't "fawn over her (whoever that is)..." did I?

I was wondering what happened to you (your posts).

Uh-oh.... careful here (just teasin' ya, Jeannie). LOL! I have an
Impressive bred horsey and he's very, very impressive (well, he *is*
impressive to me). He's also, HYPP N/N. So, I don't give a rats
patoot what anyone says about Impressive. If the horse is HYPP N/N,
then, that works for me.

I, also, have a horsey who is a decendent of Equipoise. We wondered
where Pep got those *very* long legs! <g>

Now, how could someone insult Nokia like that?!

This group is, to me, to be informative and entertainment. I love
reading about the riding adventures/episodes, new horses, current
horses, former horses and their related behaviors. I love reading
about people's critters, family, their cooking experiments and so on.
I find all of that informative and entertaining.

I also, view it as a version of a family. Those who love horses and
critters. Those who will help someone else with their expertise or
their personal items that they no longer need or desire or simply,
because they have some *extra*.

The down and out fighting, I could do without, but BTDT. ;) I do my
best to avoid posting those and reading those posts.

The constructive criticism, I find helpful. Like when I thought
someone misspelled a word and Cricket and Cindi informed me
otherwise. I thought those responses were done with kindness, as well
as with good intentions and I those responses in that manner.
Heck, sometimes the written word just does not reflect the intention
because there is no voice inflection.

Some people believe that if the horse's recent ancestors are not
famous, are not at a certain level, or have so many "points" in thus-
and-such, and said famous horse (ancestor) is not on the papers, then,
PHHHHTTTTTHHHH.

I realize that, inter alia, it's a form of measuring that breeding
lines performance abilities or keeping track of a breed. However,
personally, I don't care how recent or distant are the "points,"
performances, races, or levels. To me, the bloodline is there, but I
certainly, don't want to argue about it.

Impressive was impressive. Man-o'War was impressive. If Man-o'War is
an ancestor to Nokia, then, I think that's cool! JMO.

Yes, they do. :-) Some, more so than others.

No; not a wimp. When placing a saddle onto the horse, I use my head -
literally. You should have *seen* the looks on their faces when the
they first saw me comin'! Ha! I'm careful to not just drop in onto
their back.

I don't want to go through the process of buckets or mounting blocks
or step stools for a saddle placement. Heck, I go through all of that
just to get up on the horse (short horse, taller horse, it doesn't
matter). <g>

I wondered about those "quick slinging" of saddles and off you go! I
knew that *I* wasn't able to do any "quick slinging" of any saddle
around here. LOL!

Just take your feet out of the stirrups before you drop to the
ground. Swing your right leg over their hiney, then, lift up out of
the saddle, remove your left foot from the stirrup and slowly, slide
down to the ground. You can hang on to cantle and mane, if need be.

I've never ridden in an English saddle of any kind. I still, get my
shirt caught or my coat caught on the saddle horn, sometimes.

I'm not Abby, but it bothers me when *anyone* is trashed over and over,
by anyone else. There are two posters (I'm sure most of you know who I
mean) that have a bad habit of repeatedly ranting and target certain
people or certain topics, and both of them are in my killfile. I'm sure
they still fill this group with their trash posts, but I no longer see
it unless someone foolishly replies to the trash.

If everyone would avoid the temptation to reply to the trash, it would
eventually cease to be posted. There's no joy in posting a rant if it
is ignored by everyone and not responded to by anyone. You may have
noticed that some of our not-so-distant trolls are no longer posting
because people stopped giving them the pleasure of replies.

In one of my first cutting lessons, 9 years ago, of course with a
bunch of guys around, I got my shirt caught on the super tall horn
those cutting saddles have. My shirt ripped all the way off. Hmmm.
That was relatively un-fun. ;-)

I will admit to not reading this thread (yet), just wanted to say
WAAAAH! I can't get the Nuno video without upgrading my flash player.

Since I'm feeling very Winnie the Poohish this week (as in having very
little brain) I just wanted to say I really want to see this video as
I watched Nuno in a private schooling session in 1980 with one of his
Andulsian Stallions at PHC. I still have the personal photo's.

I thought I saw all his youtube videos but this one doesn't sound
familiar?

I'm off to update my flash player (or more likely crash my computer
the way my week has been going).

Jeanne, it nice to see you back!
