Horse startled by another falls off trail, and dies of injuries. Two
other horses require airlift out.
From the OC Register's account:
<quote>
[...] just a day into the ride a tragic accident took the life of one
horse and left four men and three others horses at the bottom of a
ravine over Trabuco Creek. The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. just
an hour and a half after the group of 45 riders had left the Trabuco
Fliers airfield, a place they camped don the first night.

Even broken up into two groups that sounds like a like a lot of horses
on a strange, rough trail together. But then, I'm very nervous myself
about trail riding with a large group anywhere.
It's just too bad it happened at all.

Yeah, that's a lot of critters in a single place. Very sad. JJ

I'm in So. Cal. and I haven't heard about this yet. However, I love
group rides, always meet new people. But you never know who you're
going to ride with, and four years old is pretty young and
inexperienced. It's the risk you take in these rides, still I'm sorry
to hear that it happened.
