Long story but a happy ending...
The true meaning of freindship can be found in any species....

Recently I had to move my 20 year old mare from a place I had boarded
her at. She had been there two years but the farm owner raised board
and while it was a fair price, my mare is retired..a lawn fixture if
you like to call her, plus she was nearly 1/2 hour from my home. So I
looked to move her closer to home. A friend offered me a stall but she
had no pasture and only had paddocks. I was doubtful but thought we'd
try it. I moved my mare there with the understanding she would be
going in with other horses. Well, the horse they wanted to put her
with was scared of her..mind she's not a aggressive horse, so don't
know what that was about and the other horse they chosen was far to
aggressive. My mare was use to being with other horses. So they had
her isolated in a paddock where she couldn't even see anyone. She
spooked at everything, she paced herself silly and screamed her head
off. Soo.. I was at my wits end, trying to work out something with the
farm owner when about two months later I was with a freind to pick up
her dog at our local doggie daycare when I came acorss two women
talking about there horses. Come to find out the one women had bought
a horse from the farm where I had initally boarded my mare, which she
bought the mare almost a year before. That horses name was Shotzie..I
nearly fell over with shock. What was freaky was Shotzie had been my
mares best buddy in the group of mares that went out together. MY mare
had never bonded with any horse, not even her baby,as strong as she
did with this mare. Tally had been sad when the Shotzie had been sold.
She had called her for nearly a whole day when she had left the farm.
So I asked Shotzie's owner if they were taking on any boarders. So
needless to say two weeks later I moved my mare over there. She
settled right in as if she had always been there. There was no
screaming, she didn't spook at anything and she's going out with a
group of 17 horses. It took her a few days to remember her old long
lost friend but when she did, they had been inseperateable since. I
went out to check on her a week later and she came right up to me in
the paddock and her buddy was right behind her. What amazed me was how
much her freind protected her, chasing off any horses that came up to
see what was going on. She wouldn't let anyone else eat with her
either except my mare. I nearly cried I was so happy. Now, in about
another couple of weeks they will be turned out onto a twenty acre
pasture. I swear my mare must think she died and gone to heaven...
