I'm thinking of buying a Wintec 2000 All Purpose saddle. I have a
quarter horse and was wondering if I should order a wide tree instead
of the regular tree.

Does anyone have experience with these saddles and know if they run
narrow ?

thanks,
diane

Diane,
I have a QH and two Wintecs. An AP and a Dressage... it all gong to depend on
what your QH is built like. I *honestly* don't think any QH is going to qualify
as big enough to fit a wide tree, but I have been wrong before. Mine are both
meduim trees and fit my horse perfectly. If you are interested in seeing what
he looks like for comparison to your's, email me and I'll forward a picture.
Lestat is 16hh and about 1200lbs.

My sister needs a wide tree Wintec for her QH, and my neighbor's QH-type
gelding is the same width. Even my 15.1 Angloarab needs a wide tree,
although not a Wintec.

I have an older style AP with a regular tree and it fits my App, who isn't
exactly narrow. *G* It is possible though, that mine has spread a bit as I
have had it for quite a while(well, about 4 years). IIRC though, it wasn't
what I would consider narrow when I bought it(new). The wides that I have seen
are pretty w-i-d-e, so you may want to see if you can "test ride" them before
you purchase one.

the wintec 2000 gullets are easily interchangable between narrow, medium &
wide. see if you can try 2 saddles, one set at each - just a thought!

I've had several Wintecs, and my experience is that they run a hair wide. I
have a regular tree on my Wintec Pro dressage, and it fits very nicely on
several horses that my regular tree Crosby Hunterdon is a bit tight for. My
old Wintec Close contact(don't make them anymore I guess, too bad, I really
liked mine) was the same.
They do come in different size trees though, and some of them even have
adjustable trees.

Does the Wintec 2000 All Purpose have the easy change gullet plates? I know
my 500 does and I had got a wide tree 'cause that's what everyone had told
me to get, but it ended up being too wide so I just got a narrower gullet
plate and undid a few screws and some velcro and presto chango it fit my
anglo-arab mare much better :)
