I asked my husband to record a short video while we jumped. It was the
first time jumping a line on the diagonal and we just moved up from x
rails to 2 feet anyway so you will see some excited horsey head
bobbing. You can see that I have a tiny arena which adds to the
difficulty. Not a stellar performance in fact I did not feel that Axl
was in the mood to jump today. Tomorrow will be ground work with some
interesting pole configurations. But by golly Axl jumped the line!

Judie--

i am by no means a person to comment on jumping, at all....i readily
admit to knowing pretty much nothing! but what i did notice was that
yep, some initial head bobbing, but it looked like to me, the further
along, the more steadier he became. I think you two did a wonderful
wonderful job!

Judie,

He's adorable! Green as grass, but a very good jumper.

And let me say, a very impressive "autoswap" as well.

You are a nice looking rider and suit him very well.

Good luck with him!

Thank you Betsey, you are a sweetie. I must admit that I see a little
magic when I watch him from this video point of view. He really is a
well put together little horse! I am very happy with him. He has a
really nice mind and doesn't seemed phased by the jumps.

I hope you had a nice Mother's Day.

Thank you Sue, I think he is a cutie pie too. You don't think he is
too small for me? He is pretty muscular for a TB maybe that helps. I
am used to riding much, much bigger horses though.

I agree with Sue; you look the right size for each other. He's so
willing! What fun. Thanks for sharing, and happy mother's day to all
the moms, out there, horsey or human or otherwise!

had a fun mother's day~ my sister andher crew were over, as well as
my parents. The kids bought me flower baskets, and the hubby gave me
a gift certificate for a massage and a faciel....i've never done
either before, it should be fun!

It's pouring here this am, with lots of wind...yucky weather!

That sounds nice! My 19 yo daughter made me breakfast and gave me a
book and some chocolates. Then I rode and then I did more yard work!
Weeded an area and planted some rose bushes. But I like that sort of
thing. The weather was perfect for it. Warm but breezie. Also, my 22
yo son IM'd me and said Happy Mother's Day. He is not big on "Hallmark
Holidays" he thinks we are all manipulated, but he loves his mom.

I wanted a smaller horse because I had a very bad concussion last time
I fell off a 17+ hand horse. I had fallen off of Tula who was around
16.1 (she bucked till I came off) and did not have any problems. But I
should have replaced my helmet which could have been the reason.
Anyway, I wanted something closer to the ground and since my ambition
is only 3' AA, I think that a small athletic horse can do that.

Judie---

you really need to come garden at my house, ok??? a few years ago we
planted "knockout" roses...nothing kills them! it's great! i have
them planted in front of my picket fence (yes, i AM hokey enough to
want a white picket fence!). when they come into bloom, i'll take
photos, you'll love them....

Well, at least the deer didn't eat the roses last night. We are
putting a "ready made" shed in an area of the pasture and had to knock
down the fence to put up a gate but the gate did not arrive until
today. I hope our roses are as hardy as yours. The Azeleas that I
planted 4 years ago are blooming like crazy and look gorgeous. But
soon they will just be leaves and no blooms which makes me kind of
sad. That is why I wanted roses because they bloom and bloom and
bloom.

Sure, I would love to visit your house with the picket fence, it
sounds cute. Please take a picture so that I can see the roses.

Judie, I think it looked like he was having some serious fun out there! He
was head bobbing at first, but got smoother as you went along and never
looked worried, he looked like, "Hey, yay...let's get going!" Nice! JJ

It seems to me that he head bobs like that when something new with a
higher degree of difficulty is introduced. But as you can see he got
right down to business which was good. I am sure when I practice a
similar exercise again he will be much more relaxed about it. This is
his pattern - he just gets a little excited with the new challenges
but by the next time he has processed it and is relaxed. So I usually
just incrementally introduce something new. For example, I knew he was
already comfortable with the 2' jump so I added the combo which was
new. Next I am going to introduce the oxer. My husband is making me
some jump standards. I have one pair already and my jump cups came in
the other day so whoohoo!

I am glad to hear people say he is cute and looks happy because I was
worried that he would be to scrappy looking compared to the fancy
warmblood horses. But I think he has the cuteness factor going for him
which makes him "acceptable" LOL. The trainers all think he is "cute"
and are happy with him so he is not an embarrassment I guess.

He is a seriously cute boy! And a good mover. You might pave the
path for other tiny women who feel they need gigantic warmbloods to
feel more confident getting a little TB instead! :-)

I am not tiny! I am average - 5' 5.5". Anyway, there are at least 2
women who ride ponies in the hunters. But they get to ride in the pony
classes. So I guess it really doesn't matter. But I have warmblood
envy just the same. I was told that I can ride the beautiful
Westphalien mare that I lesson on in the show too if I want. I am
seriously considering it. She was a jumper champion but doesn't like
shows. However, the show I am participating at Leone's is "In the
Tent" or their large indoor - so they say she will think it is a
lesson - which she loves. LOL.

I just remember you as so small and adorable. :-) I'm 5'5" too but I
thought I was taller than you - maybe just bigger... ;-)

That Teddy O'Conner helped the ponies gain status! :-)
