This morning I crawled out of bed at an ungodly hour and Carl and I
headed to Maryland. Tony climbed up on Rain and did a demo of what
they've been working on since last week, then I got on (sans the
spookarama set up) and had a really nice walk, trot, canter schooling
with her in the ring, very positive for both of us.
Next we took some great photos while Tony worked with the Zebra, and his
assistant got on Zipper and rode him some. Had a drink and relaxed a
little, then packed up Rain and brought her home to chill for the
winter. We changed our overall plan after Tony called me last night and
said he thought that Rain had had a tough early week, then the last
three workouts had gone very well indeed and he thought she was at a
very good place to park and set for the winter.
Depending on what happens this winter with my budget (ha ha, budget,
what budget?) my theory is that I may take her for 2-4 weeks with Tony
in the spring, then set her up with a local person like Michelle and
swap off riding until I'm ready to bring her home. That worked really
well with Bard, building our relationship in a training out context.
I'm verrry interested to see if Rain takes over the pasture or if Belles
remains the queen. Rain has been the dominant in every herd she's been
in elsewhere (three sets of turnout buddies, 1-6 horses each). She's
gotten used to command.
