Tormek jigs on a Bench Grinder

I have a Tormek, and I found that re-shaping a HSS gouge is a PITA. Tormek recently announced a package (BGM-100) that lets you use your Tormek jigs on a bench grinder. It's just an additional jig bar and holder. Here's the tip - if you buy one before January 15, you can get a free additional horizontal base, so you can use the jig bar on both wheels.... more »

spalting question -- bubbling black pockets of white stuff

I was reorganizing a shed yesterday, and came across a large piece of spalted bigleaf maple I bought three or so years ago from a guy in Washington State (I live in Arizona). Filling cracks w/ CA

Occasionally while sanding a bowl I find a hairline crack. Filling it with CA glue leaves a blotch around the crack where the glue soaked into the surface. I have learned to avoid this by the following method. Using an old candle I rub around the crack parallel to the crack. Is there a good way to drill a 12" long 3/8" dia hole in a lamp turning..?

I want to turn a couple lamp stands, about 12" high/long for our bedroom bedside lamps. I've been mulling over best time and way to drill the 12" long hole through the center for the cord and brass pipe for attaching the light fixture. I have a drill press in addition to the lathe.. Anyway to keep those wax bars from drying out?

I have some of those wax bars for charging up my buffing wheels for polishing pen turnings. I've been storing them in zip lock bags inside a brown paper bag and they seem to be drying out. There about 4 years old. Still seems like I can charge wheels ok but thinking eventually these things will petrify and become useless. Any advice on preserving,... more »
