Any tps on turning Shedua?

Bought some Shedua from Cook Woods and I'm having a hard time turning this stuff. Trying to make a 5" deep pencil cup. Spindle turning and hollowing end grain.
Sharpened my tools and had at it. On the sides of the piece, I'm getting chipping, even trying to use the skew. Tried hollowing with various scrapers... more »

My turning is self-taught, but self could never teach me how to use a skew to do anything useful. Now, years after grinding all my skews into scrapers, I would like to try again. I have ordered an oval skew and need a DVD or book to show me how to make small finials with it. Any good ones out there?... more »

Hi Group, A while back I started a discussion on tools and someone said
that they were using some P&N tools. Would that turner e-mail me off
list as I would like some more info on them. BTW I'll have the new
motor for my lathe next week and be able to get back to turning again.

Tree Ornaments

I had a magazine or something describing how to make a hollow tree ornament. It involved using four square pieces glued together near the ends to make a square blank. After some turning the glued ends were cut off, the pieces rotated 180 degrees, glued together and the outside turned.
