Thanks for the information from the Group on the Axminster Chuck. I started
a new thread because I have some new questions. I managed to get ahold of a
chuck and some jaws. I may order some more slides after I found out how
challenging it was to install the Odonnell Jaws. Not sure why but some of
the jaws were difficult to allign with the holes in the slides. I am used
to my oneway chuck where they just drop in. Also curious I have the 1 and 1
1/2 inch Odonnell jaws. I needed to grind down an allen wrench to get
enough clearance to install the inner set screws. Did any other
Axminster/Odonnell owners have that problem? Thanks again for the
feedback. I like the chuck! Happy Holidays.

If your going to order do it soon. I think the new catalogue is out any
time. Usually prices increase, but last year carriers went down

Let me guess you were fitting whilst carriers were in the chuck body ?
Fit the jaws to loose carriers. Did you loose fit each screw or tighten
one down, a common mistake. I use Tbar wrenches I picked up from
warehouse direct for peanuts. Nice and easy to use on the chuck.

Once you have extra carriers you can swap a set in less than a minute.
My next plan is to make it even faster, with an electric screwdriver
driving the key. Though at present I just swap out the whole chuck. Once
you have one, you want more.

And for anyone buying a chuck with jaws, when you get it take the jaws
off and the carriers out of the chuck and re-build it. Its surprising
how little some people know. I had one with 2 carriers in the wrong
place, but as the numbers on the jaws were in the correct place I
assumed no wrong. Took a short while to realise the jaws were offset.
Hey who would expect the store to get it wrong !:)
