Spirit of Cross Stitch Festival

Sacramento in November and I would love to hear comments from those who
have attended one of these festivals. I saw one article posted (sorry
I didn't save the name of who wrote it...) and I'd love to hear more
about this thing. I haven't gone before but the advertised "world's
largest merchandise mall" sure grabbed my attention!
Hello to all you fellow crafters, I haven't posted in a while, but as a
certified fabricaholic and cross stitch addict, this is the place to be!

I haven't been yet, but plan to go this year after hearing glowing
reports from two people I work with who went last year. The only
slightly negative comment was that some of the descriptions in the
literature don't accurately portray the classes. (the classes are
better than the descriptions!) They were totally overwhelmed by
the wide variety of goodies for sale, and felt all the classes
were good value, well taught, etc. Many of the classes have already
filled, so be sure to put down 2nd and 3rd choices for every class.

I have been to the S.C.S.F in Des Moines on Friday - I took a class - and
I am going back today to scour through the merchandise mall.
I took a class on working with linen on Friday and it went by too fast. We
were taught how to work on linen (not too tough), and also the types of linen,
cares of linens, etc. The best part of this class was that there were 10
other people in the room with whom I could *talk* about cross-stitch. What
heaven! I do belong to a group of three of us who gather once a week for
"Stitch and Bitch" (excuse the profane language, but that's what we call it).
We work on gifts or personal items and complain about graduate school, boyfriends,
husband, housecleaning, etc.
But back to the topic: the merchandise mall is great. One booth that I am
definitely going to make myself much poorer at is the Zweigart booth. They have
their entire line on display and this year, you can actually purchase fabrics
from them (yippee!!!) It is also interesting to meet some of the designers that
you always see on the shelves of your local store. I talked with Alma Lyne for
a few minutes - she is a wonderful lady.
I heartily recommend S.C.S.F for anyone who enjoys cross-stitch. You share the
experience with others who are just like you and you can cull many great ideas
just from sitting around and talking.

I spent the entire weekend at the SCSF in Des Moines - Thursday thru Sunday.
I took four classes and thoroughly enjoyed them all - it was great talking to
the designers and other stitchers - people who were as enthused about stitching
as I am. I took two classes from Liz Turner Diehl (excuse me if I mispelled it
but I don't have my stuff here) who completely hooked me on Madeira floss and
silks from Germany, a sampler class from Maureen Appleton - what a neat lady
and now I have a beautiful sampler to work on sewed one over one on 26 count
linen - the details are unbelievable, and a class on silk gauze from Paula of
Crossed Wings Collections - I can't believe I was actually stitching on 40 count
silk and liking it! All of the classes were great!
I spent the better part of 2 days in the merchandise mall (when I wasn't in
classes) - shopping and just looking at everything that was available. I did
find a lot of stuff that I hadn't seen yet in my local shops and yes I did
spend a sizable amount of money - there were so many neat things!
I would most certainly recommend that avid stitchers go the festival - I had
a great time and now have many new projects to work on including those I started
in class. I was amazed how friendly the designers were and how excited
everyone is about cross stitching - I came away with such a great feeling and
plan on going again next year and am strongly recommending it to all of my
stitching friends - I can't wait to start stitching!!!!

I could have gone. Unfortunately lack of the old dinero kept me at home
this weekend. Sounds like I would have seen a lot of neat ideas and knowing
me I would have wanted to try them all. he he I already have too many
projects
that I am working on. I'm a stitcher who has to have more than one project
going at once or else I get really bored. Well, as far as the SCSF goes
there is always next year. 8-)
