Hi ,
I'm looking for a knit pattern for a neck scarf. It was knit in a fine yarn.
It is very narrow (maybe an inch wide) at each end widening out in the
middle portions. There appeared to be a eyelet ( little hole) every so
often in the pattern. It wraps completely around the neck once and ends
hang to midriff although I'm sure it can be any length one would want. Has
anyone seen something like this pattern? thanks, Signe

There are like THOUSANDS of patterns for scarves in every style
imaginable, so unless you have a picture, you are probably not going to
find the exact pattern you want and may have to settle for something
similar.

Thanks for your responses. I'm pretty much a beginning knitter. I could
probably come up with something similar but I am looking for any helps and
hints. I don't have a picture as I saw it around someone's neck. It
appeared to be just smooth, what I would call sweater knit, with small
eyelet holes in it in a planned pattern. I was thinking that maybe it was
CO with 4 or so stitches and then increased/decreased to the other end. The
tiny holes have me a bit buffaloed. Thanks, Signe

Okay, I have two options for you:

1. Try Lion Brand Yarns to see if the pattern is there:

http://cache.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/patternFinder.fcgi

2. See if any of these stitches look like the pattern you remember.

Sorry -- I forgot about one other place for knitting stitches:

Best of luck in your endeavors. I found http://www.knittinghelp.com to
be a great help to learn how to do things -- lots of videos there that
you can play while you copy what the video is doing.

The small holes would just be eyelets, a k2tog, yo combination. You're
probably right about the construction - CO with just a few sts and
increase on both ends of the RS rows until it's the width you want, then
just knit straight for the length and dec both sides till you're to the
same number of sts you CO. Sweater knit is called stockinette st, btw,
knit one row, purl the next and alternate.

This did the trick... looks like Simple Eyelet 1 or 2 just spaced further
apart. Of course with this site and the ones Samantha noted I'm going to be
totally distracted now. Thank you so much. Who knew you could do so much
with sticks and yarn? : )

Chris
I curated an exhibition about knitted art works which i called "The
Magic Wands" , because i claim, that there is no difference between a
magician waving a wand saying:" Adra Kadabra!" or us `waving` our
needle[s] and saying:" 2 purl , 3 knit!".

I'm kind of a beginner to...well not really as I have been knitting for
40 years but in this group I am the small child in the play yard wanting
to play with the big kids as there is so much talent here. I can't even
knit in the round with double points or hold a yarn in the left hand and
one in the right hand but Mirjam throws out a nibble or sends me a
beautiful photo or two and it's enough to make me jump and I'm off
trying something new. Right now I'm trying to design a dishcloth for a
Christmas contest and I'm struggling with it, with every stitch and
writing down the pattern but I haven't given up yet. You have to
understand I have to have a pattern in front of me to knit anything and
I have never knitted from a chart in my life but I am trying now.
Mirjam has that effect on people. :-)

Oh Mirjam...I forgot to tell you I love to knit dishcloths. Don't use
them but I love to knit them. Well e-mail you.

I know the feeling. I make smaller ones and use them for coasters, make
MUCH larger ones and use them for throw rugs, afghans, shawls, etc.

This weekend I am working on a sweater knit bottom-up in the round in
worsted weight yarn because I am bored out of my gourd after my
anticipated company had to cancel at the last minute. Honestly, I would
rather be sewing, because I have more unfinished sewing projects for
things I could wear to work and because when I'm sitting knitting my
doggie wants to take over my lap, which she doesn't do when I am sewing,
but until my son has the time to cut the legs of this portable table
down so it's the right height for sewing, I just have to wait and grit
my teeth.

your experience of 40 years is very respected, and is to saluted.

Every one and every body, who joins[ed] this group, brings their own
tastes , flavours, experiences
and we all become richer and more glad with our common interest.

original. ,,,

I thought about your dillema , and think you might either write both
the pattern in words and have the chart ,than take colored pencils and
paint on the chart each k st with color A , use the smae color for
every time the pattern says k st. use color b for both the chart
showing a purl st , and both the written purl st.. etc , this way the
colors of both become more clear and you will be able to find your way
on both !!!

Thank you for the Compliment i am blushing ..
