Hi

I have an old pfaff 232 machine. Works very nicely, but the pedal has
burned out. Looks like a resistor or capacitor has gotten too hot.
Smells horrible. Still works a bit but starts sewing at the lowest
speed as soon as I switch the power on.

Can this be fixed or easily replaced? The plug can be easily removed
from the cord - I am just not sure whether the workings of these pedal
are standard or model specific.

I think they are pretty generic (I've got a Pfaff 230) but hopefully Ron
Anderson will be along soon to tell you for sure! Or check his website at
www.a1sewingmachine.com . Other options - post this over on alt.sewing (it
gets more use than this one) and/or join the oldpfaffpforum on Yahoo for
advice and Cindy Peters (a member) mail orders parts - and is very nice to
deal with. She has a catalog at

Found an answer in the archives of alt.sewing. The burned out
component is just a capacitor. It is connected across the contacts to
prevent the little sparks when the power is connected. This is just to
prevent interference with other electrical items. The problem is that
when it burns out it conducts electricity and so the machine starts
running. The solution is to just cut the component out! Working fine
again. Although I think it would be nice if these components had an
earth...
