I"m all for your anti Spam campaign, but do you to have to continuously
post the "pledge" every time you go after someone?

as one who has also been cyber-stalked and attacked for reporting spammers,
I would think it'd be more prudent to not announce publicly what you are
doing??

just my 2¢

Penny, sure I could just hit delete, too, but that wouldn't do
anything about ending the spam. I post the pledge *occasionally* for
the benefit of newbies to the group(s), who may not know that
patronizing spammers just encourages them. I do report lots of other
spam which I don't "announce publicly". To each his/her own, I guess.

Hmmm, sorry to reply to my own post, but upon review, I see that Penny
is right, I *have* overdone it on the Boulder Pledge posts. I
apologies, I'll stop.

Don't stop after the spammers. I don't bother on this group, but there are
some others....

I just truly would be careful about announcing who you are going after.
You-all may or may not recall that I announced to this group regarding a
porn spammer that I got shut down. Sure enough, the guy went after me
personally, impersonating me in a most unpleasant fashion... what a
nightmre. So just be care ful.

Penny, I appreciate your warning, and I'll benefit from your
experience. I do think occasionally someone needs to publicly
reprimand spammers to the newsgroups, otherwise the newbies may not
know to avoid their sites. Maybe "Anne Nonymouse"?

Ultimately that's a personal choice, isn't it.

Sure. But a lot of newbies don't realize that when they feed the spam
beast, we get a step closer to losing a good newsgroup to an excess of
ads. Or maybe they know, but don't care, because they are interested in
getting a good deal on something.
I was privately reprimanded by someone (who apparently lurked, but
never posted), because I recently posted scoldings--reminders that we
are a NO AD newsgroup-- to some of the spammers.
We regulars seem to take impromptu turns being the Anti-Spam Goddess,
which suits me fine. :) I've been to those groups totally taken over by
spam, and it ain't a pretty sight. A vast wasteland, a plethora of ad
poop, a useless place. Sere, dry, bleached-bone deserted. Dessicated; it
ain't a purty site.

Cea, your use of the term "ad poop" has just won some sort of award. Not
sure which one, but I love it!

LOL. Good to see you, Donna. I pop in on sewingweb from time to time,
but, being in a semi-senile state, I fergot my secret code name, and
that kinda keeps me out of the loop.
(Gotta get some wee yellow sticky notes for reminders and wall-paper
the wall next to the web box again.)
