First I want to thank our dear Pat on her hill for her suggestions and
encouragement that kept me going thru this project... and most of all for
brilliantly suggesting the wavy lines for the quilting. This quilt is so
colorful and busy it was the perfect solution.

This quilt was made for my son to liven up his very beige apartment. He and
I have both had a long-time fascination with salt water and reef aquariums.
Other than the twisted seaweed and the fish under the arch (both adapted
from the book Quilted Sea Tapestries by Ginny Eckley) everything is my
original idea.

You can see waayyyy too many photos of the completed wallhanging at-

It turned out just great!!! Better than an aquarium 'cause you don't have
to worry about feeding the fish!

Magnificent, Leslie. Incredible. You're not really going to let him have
it are you? Polly

OMG-that's wonderful. You must have had so much fun doing it. It needs to
be entered into a quilt show.

Such a wonderful piece, you are so clever - if your son ever gets tired of
it, I have a bare wall that it would look really nice against and I also
live near the beach so it would be quite at home.

Leslie, it is a beautiful work of art.

Oh Leslie, this must exceed all your original dreams. It is just
amazing. I'm thrilled that I was able to join in to a very tiny extent.
It was a terrific idea, and you have done it so cleverly. Today I saw
the pearl for the first time - took my breath away. Look where you get
to when you let your mind run riot! This seems to be so much more 'you'
than piecing?
Well done and good for you for sticking with it.

It's alive! Fabulous! Every little fish has its own personality -one
could spend hours looking, just like a wet aquarium.

how fun!
Isn't it cool when an idea in the head can get out onto the material?

Howdy!

Awesome.

Not way too many photos; each one tells the story.
Do you have a photo of the whole quilt?

Oh, my, Leslie, that is spectacular! A real vision. You've gone way beyond
quilting in this one, Les. You've done gone to the Art side!!

Well done and beautiful.

WOW!!!!! Leslie, that's fantastic! I love the little neons, clown fish
and angel fish, as well as the turtle, anemones, oyster with pearl,
coral, etc. That's just wonderful! What has your son said so far? <G>

BEG! BEG! BEG! (Subtle aren't I?) I'm not usually that crazy about
picture quilts, (although they fascinate me), but I REALLY LOVE that
quilt, Leslie. You did a stupendous job! I suppose you've got your
heart set on giving it to your son, huh? ;-)

Wow!! That's great!! It looks lovely from afar and interesting up close
too. I'm glad you added all the close ups so we can see the details.
Looks like you did thread painting on at least some of the fish (did I
get that right?) - however you did it they have lovely texture.

Thank you, everybody, for all the kind comments. Yes, I really am going to
send it on to my eldest son. It's a kind of a legacy thing.... leaving
something special behind when you're gone. I want my sons to have that from
me. Their other quilts are all 'using' quilts and won't be around all that
long. Now on to the next project for my other son. What can I do that will
be the same caliber???? Yikes! This pushing the limit is not easy. ;-)

(And, no, it won't ever be entered in a show. My work is not of that
caliber. I am quite pleased with the finished quilt but there are too many
'galloping horse' things on/in it.)

Very, very pretty, Leslie! I also enjoy viewing aquariums, but don't want
the work and expense of owning one. Maybe I should follow your lead and make
a fabric aquarium!
