Anybody get the scrap quilt issue of Australian Patchwork and quilting?
I subscribe now, its expensive, but no problem finding someone who
wantsthe magazine when I am done. There is a quilt in there which uses
4" watercolor patches put together in blocks of 15 patches (48 or so of
those ) in a quilt as you go design. Well, I looked at that and then I
looked at the large pile of 2" blocks (did I mention it was a LARGE
pile????) from the watercolor class I took from Diedre Amestan
(spelling) at Jinny Beyer last year. The class was ok, but not what I
wanted to do. I had tried to get rid of the blocks last year to someone
on the web, but I misplaced the e-mail and when I asked on line, no one
responded. I saved them hoping she would e-mail me. Oh well.:>( Two
days ago I started piecing blocks of 30 - 2" squares. I stopped at 25
blocks. I am ready to start the quilt as you go process. I must say,
so far it looks like I know what I am doing - now that is amazing! I
have the quilt light in the upper right corner going dark to the bottom
left hand side. This method should have been labeled "Watercolor for
dummies". I just made blocks and them placed them around until I was
happy where they were. My DH is impressed with the looks of it. I will
keep you informed of what I think and how the method works. Has anyone
else tried this or seen it in the magazine?.

Jean--if you like the APQ watercolor issue, you will probably also like
Judy Turner's book Awash with Color. She's an Australian who does colorwash
quilts but with strips instead of little bitty squares, and she does some
quilt-as-you-go too. I've seen the book in various quilt catalogues. It
shouldn't be too hard to get in the U.S. It's in paperback for around $20.
haven't done any of the designs yet--just amassing the fabrics at the
moment.
