This question is pure vanity. Well, maybe not so 'pure'. We've just
received pictures of a recent family reunion. I look like I'm gone. Do I
have to buy some of those funny costume eyeglasses with the huge nose and
caterpillar eyebrows or is there a solution? My eyebrows are still there
but have 'blonded' so that they are invisible. Is there a tanning booth for
eyebrows only? Can I get them tattoo-ed on without a cute heart that says
"Veronica" on my backside? Does dyeing eyebrows really cause blindness?
I'm okay with being shorter as I age; I never expected (really) to be
tall anyway . . . but having my face disappear is a battle I intend to
fight. What do I do? Polly

Hi Polly,

I have my eyebrows dyed when I have my hair colored. Eyebrow
hair is pretty resistant to hair dye, but it lasts a good 3
weeks. And, no, I have not become blind as a result!

I am not a makeup person, but you could buy eyebrow powder
and put it on with a q-tip.

You can have your eyebrows tattooed, yes, indeed. My mom had
her eyebrows tattooed as well as "eye liner."

Yes, aging is for the birds...

I think there are salons that specialize in these types of
tattoos. I would not recommend a "regular" tattoo parlor!!

There are places that do 'medical' tattoos to cover scars and to create the
'nipple area' for mastectomy patients and other types of cover-ups. I'd
start asking at a dermatologist office and work out from there. I know
someone who had eyebrows tattooed and she's quite pleased with herself and
her 'new' eyebrows. VBG I still want that tiny green vine and tiny leaves
tattooed to twine around my ankle. If I don't decide which ankle someday
soon the undertaker will be the one tattooing me!

Yes -- they have permanent eyeliner now, along with the eyebrows and
lip liner! I am one of those strange women who have always had BLACK
eyebrows and eyelashes. I was born really blonde but always had black
eyebrows & eyelashes -- go figure. My hair turned a light sort of dish
water brown but the eyebrows & eyelashes stayed black.
Now that I am getting "more mature" (OY the pain -- LOL) my eyebrows
are starting to turn white -- one hair at a time!!! Looks VERY odd with
a grouping of 3 or 4 hairs right smack in the midst of my black
eyebrows. It rather looks as if I have had that little grouping of
hairs pulled out. My solution is to use an old, almost dry tube of
mascara -- black in color, of course -- and very carefully color just
the white hairs of my eyebrows. I tried using pencil and all that did
was draw a nasty line on my skin. I tried the eyebrow powder, too but
it didn't stick to my eyebbrow hairs.
I'm not sure if something like this might work for you. I like it
because you can gently control the mascara so that it doesn't color your
underlying skin 00 just the eyebrow hair itself. I'm not sure what
color you would need but someone has to make a color mascara that would
work for your eyebrows. Whatever you decide, you need to let us know.
It might be something the rest of us would like to try :-)! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Dye your eyebrows and lashes. Most beauty salons and some hairdressers
do this, or you can get kits. A friend dyes her eyebrows along with her
hair about once a month.

You can have your brows dyed as well as lashes. Never turned me blind (yet).

On the tattoo - if you decide on this kind of thing, make sure that you
see lots of pics from previous clients. I know a few people (state side
only) who had this done, and regretted it - it is slightly too much and
looks like they are going to a disco...

Just last Saturday, I met a friend whose eyebrows had gone very pale.
She had hers dyed (professionally) and that was so successful she
recently had her eyelashes done too. She looked a million dollars. Do
go ahead with it Polly. You'll love the difference. My friend's
eyebrows were just a few shades darker than her natural colour, so
didn't look like Groucho Marx at all >g<

Polly,

I would do the dye job. My son (yes son) is a local actor and rock
musician, (my hair should be graying!) and when he has to dye his hair
for a part he will always dye his eyebrows. The first time he did
this I about had a heart attach but all came out well. I do not dye
my hair, yet, but if I was unhappy with my hair color I should
wouldn't hesitate.

Tattoos? Well, I just try to look ahead to when I am 70 or 80 and it
makes me laugh. Great Granny has eye liner and eyebrows but how will
they look with the wrinkles??? I'm not giving up my leathers either!!

Go for it!!!

Try make-up first to see whether 'the new colourful' you is someone
that you could live with - if the gators' run for cover, it could be a
good news/bad news situation.
Dark hair runs in my family and dark eyebrows stayed with my Mum while
her hair was thinly silver - my sister and I both are still dark
haired with some silver highlights but our eyebrows and lashes are
original dark dark brown - my eyes are so dark brown that they appear
to be black. jennellh

My hairdresser dyes my eyebrows, puts the stuff on and they are hair-colored
again by the time she finishes cutting. Doesn't cost much, looks a lot
neater than trying to apply eyebrow makeup before my eyes are properly open,
and I don't terrify the postie if he rings the bell before my face is on.
She can do eyelashes too, but in my case it doesn't make much difference.

One of my best friends had her eyebrows tattoo-ed awhile back. They look
GREAT! You'd never know they weren't real.

She had plucked her eyebrows for so long, and there was that incident with
the wax (ouch) and they were no longer even and she was getting gray and you
just couldn't see them anymore.

It wasn't cheap, but she thought it was definitely worth it.

My eyebrows have always been very light. When I went through my "redhead"
stage a couple years ago, I colored my hair myself and I always swiped a
gloved finger across my eyebrows to get some color back into them. It
wasn't runny. It stuck. Never hurt anything. Course, I'm immune to most
stuff, YMMV.

I think you mainly have to be careful when you get your eyeLASHES dyed.

Eye brow pencil.

I've just realized that my lips are fading. Luckily I found a
lipstick color called nude that seems to be close to my former natural
lip color. Now I just have to learn to put up with the taste and feel

I haven't followed this whole thread but I am wondering if you
did anything to your eyebrows yet Polly.
My dad alleges grandma (his mil) Looked old the first time he

than a look probably. I have a feeling your attitude is fine!

Well, I hadn't reported back because I'm sure my eyebrows do not appear on
anybody's list of crisis issues.
However - I did try the suggestion of brown mascara - That makes me look
like I have big fuzzy caterpillars trotting across my face.
I finally realized that the photographer at the family reunion must have
had some adjustments on her camera just wide open. The pants and shirt I
was wearing are navy blue to the point of just about black. In the photos
she sent me, the suit looks like the bright blue of Hewlett Packard,
WordPerfect etc. So. Therefore. If her camera was fading out the other
colors, maybe I didn't look quite as ghostly as I'd thought.
Patti (of Murphy's Paw) suggested I give 'Paintbox' from Sephora a try,
and I am.
Meanwhile. Yes, indeed. Some women look old in their mid 40's. (My
DH's mom looked 'elderly' at 43). For that matter, some look like they
don't give a damn who are only in their 20's. As for me, I'll be going down
fighting. Tammy Faye, move over. Polly

Yep, it is the camera at fault; I knew it was not your
eyebrows, dear Polly. ;) In case you ever DO have
'eyebrow issues' I have this suggestion. If you are
fair of skin and hair, get a blonde eye brow pencil,
and fill in the area with short strokes. Finish this
off by brushing the brows with one of those little eye
brow brushes, using short strokes to blend the pencil
lines for a more natural look. Of course *I* don't need
any of this stuff, being naturally beautiful and
everything. ;)
