Hi Everyone!

I hope you can help me. I have volunteered to coordinate the making of a quilt
for my kid's school. It is to honour the fiftieth anniversary of our home and
school. I would like to involve all the kids (about 270). If you have any
suggestions or ways to make it easily, please let me know. Thanking you in
advance.

Jane (from East York, Canada's greatest borough) soon to be swallowed by
Toronto :(

BTW the school up the street has a quilt done by the kids. 4" muslin blocks
with a crayon pictures. Signatures are on the back so who knows how long it
will last

Greetings, Jane!

What a great project !
Your crayon-drawing idea caught my eye.....I have been most happy with
a permanent fabric crayon by Pentel. These "Fabricfun" Pastel
Dyesticks are boxed in sets of 7 or 15 great , permanent colors.

The kids can write/color directly onto the pre-washed fabric.
Heat-setting is accomplished with an iron . Machine washable and
dryable results.

Here in the States, they are found in MJDesigns (craft supplies), or
Toys R Us . They are very reasonable in price. I have also
successfully maill-ordered through:

A few years back, I make a "crazy" quilt for my kids' school. Eash
student was to bring a piece of fabric to be included or choose from a
large basket of fabric scraps I brought from home. Eash classroom had a
"block" and I would crazy quilt that classroom's block around the
classroom number which I had stenciled onto the foundation fabric.
Students brought the most interesting things to put in the quilt--part of
a bathroom rug, many different pieces of "special" baby blankets, t-shirts
(teenage mutant ninja turtles, Nike,College team, etc.), one student even
brought a sock--yes I put it in! It was so heavy, I didn't actually
"quilt" it, but serged my seams so it would last for all eternity. The
pre-school provided fabric for the binding. Consequently, it is one of
the ugliest quilts I have ever seen. It hangs in the school library and
the kids LOVE it.

A good thing about this quilt is you can always remake it in about 6-7 years
depending on when the youngest finally leave the school.
