except I made it 6.5" not 12.5". Mine is in Christmas colours, it's
supposed to resemble a poinsettia.
So now I'm working on finishing a WUH I started ages ago for my dad.
It's called 40 Shades of Green, it does include exactly 40 shades of
green, and they were a pain to keep track of I can tell you. Today I
added the borders, and discovered a spare piece of batting just the
right size, which is wonderful! So I'm going to do a little paperwork,
and then assemble the sandwich. And then i suppose I'll spend ages
trying to decide how to quilt it. It's an Irish-inspired quilt, and will
have Celtic-themed quilting. I want a knot going all round the border,
and I fancy one of those wonderful stylised animals, maybe in a large
circle, somewhere on it. Does anyone have any good (ideally online)
resources for quilting patterns like that, or just ideas i can steal
inspiration from?

That would be really kind and helpful, thanks. Could you also please
send me the details of the book? If I like the designs I might want to
buy it.

Did you have any particular animals in mind? Lots have dragons, or
lion looking creatures - fish - rabbits - cats - wild boar - lots of
birds - serpents - (one has nekkid ladies <gasp>).
One book I have is all animals! They aren't small in circles, but
whole page size - but if you liked any in particular you could just
shrink them down and use the pattern.....there's a really cool rooster!
Anyway, I'd be glad to help you out - if we can narrow it down. LOL

If you can't find any of these at your local library - maybe a book
store? If you could look through them, and don't want to buy them -
you could let me know what pages you want and I could scan and send
them to you!

Ooh - how exciting. The quilt is 4'x3' (landscape) which is a biggish
WUH, so I'm thinking fairly bold quilting designs. For the animal in the
circle I'm thinking about 12" across, a rooster sounds fun! And maybe
some other smaller things in circles, about 3"-6" across. A cross would
certainly be good. I don't really know what else you can get apart from
animals, crosses and knots. Maybe you can clue me in. Then I'm looking
for some kind of infill, such as a very big space-filling knot in a
mattress-pad effect, vanishing behind the circular motifs. I'm also
looking for knot patterns for the 3" border.
The quilt is an abstract landscape in a kind of watercolour effect. It's
alternating 4-patches and 9-patches, but the boundaries between the
squares is blurred because the same fabric might be used in a part of a
4-patch which is adjacent to the same fabric in part of the next
9-patch. I knew it was working when it became a real headache to count
the rows, you have to really concentrate to keep track of where one
4-patch stops and the next 9-patch begins. Does that description make
any sense?
So the quilting will deliberately not follow the lines of stitching at
all, but be an all-over affair, apart from the borders which will have a
knot design. So far my ideas are for one large circular motif in the top
left, a few smaller circular motifs scattered randomly, and a background
fill pattern (usually I'd just stipple but I hope I can find something
more celtic) Or I might get the willies and decide this is all getting
far too ambitious and just SITD!

How about we do this, let's take this off-group, I will reply to you
privately, exchange addresses and I just send a couple of the books to
you that I think have the most of what you are looking for. That way,
you can choose what you want, copy them and send me the books back!
How's that? LOL
Tina
That would be great. Lets do that.
