Hi! It sure would be fun to "meet" you. Come on! Tell us about what you
are working on. How long have you been quilting? Is this your first
quilt or your 42nd? How long have you been reading RCTQ? Anything else
that you want to share?
When you *do* decide to come off the lurker mode, could you please let
us know that you are a newbie at this posting stuff! Wave a flag! Are
you shy? Then wave it quietly! We really do want to meet you! And with
all the posts that come in each day, it is easy to not catch a newcomer.
I sure hate it when that happens!
Come on in and pull up a chair. It is Show and Tell, RCTQ style! And it
is YOUR turn! Go for it!

Hello to all -------
I'm a newbie from CA.. Enjoying the group and all the tips I am getting.
First quilt is about 40X60. Very easy blocks. First part I sewed on the
machine now am finishing up the hand quiting using a 12 in embroidery hoop.
Working okay with me. I guess with age comes patience. I am not hurrying to
get this done. Married to a great guy, together we have 5 children one left
at home. 6 grandkids. Hubby is a Fire Captain/Paramedic I am a Registered
Nurse in the Emergency Department. Yep, that is how we met!!!
Hi =) My name is Stephanie Larson...I posted earlier about OT (duh!).
I've been lurking on and off for quite awhile now. I've only been
quilting for about two years, (but hey..I'm only 20 now!) So far, I've
done a couple lap quilts, some 9patches. (That are complete anyways.)
Now UFO's...I have those a-plenty. At the moment..I am hurrying to get a
signature quilt done for my wedding in September. And am also slowly
working on hand quilting (straight, big stitches) a pink, muave, and
white 9patch. I just got QuiltSOFT, as I mentioned in a post a while
back...so I am sure that I'll have tons of new UFO's..or works in
progress.
Let's see..what else...I live in St. Paul, MN (If there's anyone else
around here around the area I'd love to meet fellow quilters.) I'm not
in a quilt guild..as most of them around here are generally church
guilds, (churches that I don't belong to) and wouldn't really feel
comfortable. I get along pretty well with just about anyone..but would
love to meet at least a couple quilters my age.
I'm sure you're all sick about hearing about me, me, me now. So I'll let
ya'll go!!
Take care,
Stephanie
(check out my little quilting area on my webpage..it's still small..but
I'm hoping it'll grow!)

So, What colors, any particular blocks, etc.?
I admire anyone doing hand work. With my munchkins, speed is important.
Good luck, and keep us posted, please
Marian
Hi Sandy, Welcome-- It might be worthwhile to check out those guilds
you mention. Our guild meets in a church here in the area, but not one
of our 26 members is a member of this particular church. Many guilds in
our part of the country seem to meet in church buildings because they
usually have the room to accommodate people. The guilds in your area
might be in the same category. Anyhow, sounds like you're hooked, huh?
Keep us posted on your wedding quilt!

My first (and still unfinished) quilt is made of old blue jeans. I drew
around a 3x5 card and then added the seam allowance and cut them all with a
scissors! It measures 72x90 and weighs a ton, but my seams matched real
well.
I have worked on a few small wall hangings, but have just completed my
second best effort, a 70x70 scrap quilt for my sister-in-laws wedding in
August. It is 7" bow ties turned head to head. Just got it back from the
machine quilter Thursday last week. Had her put a cat silhoutte in the
hexagons formed by the background fabric, and mice with long curly tails in
the prints. Don't know if DH will let me give it away. Next project will
be for our bed.
Thanks for listening

Okay, Arline, I will formally introduce myself to the group - Donna Majors
from Clovis, NM. Right now I am in the midst of quilting five quilts for
students. I do heirloom machine quilting - but I have to get these things
done so I can start planning more class projects - and those all take
considerable time as I write most of my own patterns.
As to the number of quilts I have made - slightly over 100 and I've been
quilting eight years and teaching 7 of those. Completely self-taught, so
have learned the hard way - through my mistakes, but when I teach I am sure
to pass along all the boo-boos so that others don't have to repeat my
errors. I do strongly believe in passing along my knowledge when I teach
and not holding back important points.
I've been reading RCTQ since April - more lately off and on as excuse me,
I don't seem to gain much response when I do post and try to help someone
out by answering questions. That being the case, I only occasionally only
read posts since this more or less seems like a "closed group." Obviously
I don't like to feel invisible!! <VBG> By no means am I a newbie here.
DH works a graveyard shift - neither of us like that. Past the age for
kids at home and just the dog and cat - who BTW has velco attached to his
stomach so he can sleep on top of me at night.
Anyone here into fabric dyeing? Hoping I can find some time to *play*
with some of that again soon. Too many quilts in my head. Classes keep me
grounded in traditional stuff as my students are satisfied to do
traditional and just haven't spread their wings with creativity, but that's
okay, as I like both, but art quilts are where my love lies.
Unfortunately have been having health problems for several months, but
hope soon my energy will start coming back so I really feel good and can
put on a Madonna CD and free motion quilt like crazy - that's when I do my
best work!!

Hi Stephanie!
Glad you decided to post and tell us about your quilting. Welcome!
Lisa in Texas
Egads! My life is in pieces! And I love it!! :)))
Well Sharon,
You're not a lurker any more! Welcome to the news group, and as for
perfect corners, we all have to work on that one! Please keep posting.
Lisa in TExas
One question, please: what is the difference between "regular" machine
qulting and "heirloom" machine quilting? I usually hand quilt, so I'm
not familiar with this term. TIA
Technically I'm not a lurker since I've already sent a few notes, and
one post, but I'm new enough that I guess I better introduce myself...
My name is Gretchen Alarcon and I'm a quilter.
My mom is a SUPER quilter and she has been getting me interested for the
last few years. I've been much more into crochet and needlework (ask me
about my UFOs in that department), but I started my first quilt 2 years
ago. It's an Irish Chain - king sized! Since starting it I've moved
twice, gotten my MBA and had a baby, so I'm not feeling too guilty about
how long its taking to complete, although my DH always comments on it
when I drag it out of storage again. I'm also in the planning stages of
a T-shirt quilt, and just started a CCS tree skirt which is so intricate
I'm hoping to finish it within this century.
So that's me - delurking long enough to post this, then off to chase my
13 month-old, and maybe drag that quilt out of the closet again!

my name is jillian jones and i am a student at the university of
pittsburgh. i am new to quilting and have already received
many helpful responses from this newsgroup. (hand piecing stitches and
how to remove pencil markings. a wonderful thank you to all who replied.)
my first quilt was a pattern called "twisted ribbons" done in black, slate
blue and maroon florals, which won first place in the local fair. (junior
division of course!) since then i have completed a "trip around the
world" and a "double irish chain" for two of my friends who got married.
my latest project was a wedding quilt for my best friend carrie. i sent
all her friends and relatives an 11x11" square of fabric and asked them to
make something that reminded them of carrie. well, out of the thirteen
squares that came back i made a quilt, using carrie's wedding colors
(emerald green and white) as the border.
well, the wedding is this saturday and i finished tying the
quilt/wall hanging (it's rather small) this past monday. it is amazing
how much time and effort go into a one day event such as a wedding! i
will almost be glad when it is over...
i just purchased a used singer 636, and i can't wait to try it out! i
promised myself that i wouldn't touch it until after finals this week. i
think that my first project will be to finish a nine patch and rails that
i started before leaving my mother's sewing machine for college.
i have only been lurking for the past three months or so, and i have
already learned so much.
thank you,
jillian
p.s. - i wish that i had a picture of the shocked and confused look on my
boyfriend's face when i suggested taking along some needlework to a
queensryche concert so that i would have something to do before the
show.... =]
Congrats on the upcoming wedding! How do you have time to quilt, what with
reading the ng, quilting, and all the wedding preparations too? WOW! :-)
(that would explain all the UFOs in your case.. me, I'm still looking for
my reason. ;)

AHA, Donna! An East Sider! (for the uninitiated, this is something
like the "south side of Chicago" or the "Bronx", 'cept there's a WHOLE
lot of space in between, in NM) I was born and raised in Hobbs,
Ammurika (and yes, I STILL talk a little funny :-) ) (also for the
uninitiated, Hobbs and Clovis are both CLOSE to the Texas border, but
Clovis is maybe an hour and a half north of Hobbs (and you get to visit
metroploli like Tatum, Pep, Dora, and Portales in between ... don't
blink :-) )

YOW! FIVE?

Maybe that explains it. Come to think of it, I made about a hundred in
about that many years ... but I had a ROTTEN job, AND I wasn't on the
Net ... these days, I seem to be talking a lot more than I'm quilting
...
I've been reading RCTQ since April - more lately off and on as

Nah, Donna, I disagree. I swear, I swear (yeah, well, maybe I swear
often) that if I'd seen a post from a fellow New Mexican ('specially an
east-sider), I'd've hollered (GhostWalker, I tried). I'm glad you're
not a newbie, but I'm embarrassed if we made you feel invisible.

Welcome Michelle! I had to reply because I use the cardboard from cereal
boxes, too. I'd just never admitted this to another quilter before....
Your quilt sounds terrific. I hope somebody else will give you advice
about the actual quilting, since I'm more of a person that pieces the
tops and never gets around to finishing them. (I did actually quilt
something yesterday.. but I'll save that for another time...) I know it
makes a great deal of difference which batting (wadding) you use,
depending on whether you intend to machine quilt or hand quilt. My tip
for the backing is that you make it larger (much larger) than the front
if you can, since the first time you baste a quilt together it will
travel, and it's a real pain to get the whole thing basted and find out
you're an inch short on one side-- you have to unbaste or unpin
everything and start over!! Good luck and keep posting!

Hi There,
I'm a so called "lurker", and have decided to come on to say hello to
everyone on the newsgroup. I'm new to patchwork/quilting and have just
finished my first quilt top (I was up late last night burning the
midnight oil at my sewing machine) - yes, that's right I didn't hand
piece it, but I will probably have a go at it sometime in the future.
The single bed size quilt I'm working on is in various shades of blue,
plain and patterned fabrics. The templates - squares, oblongs and
triangles - were cut from the cardboard of cereal packets (last of the
big spenders :-) . There's no particular pattern to it, the triangle
shapes have been used as a border. I have never tried hand quilting
before - I haven't even bought the wadding or backing fabric yet - any
tips on making a successful quilt sandwich?

Welcome Jillian!
Don't worry, your boyfriend, and everyone else who knows you will get
used to the portable project thing! A few months back there was a
thread on the wierdest place you ever quilted. One of the most
memorable was at the stop lights! Quilters are a strange bunch, and we
do like to take our projects along!
Stephanie, welcome to the group! Please tell us more about the signature
quilt you're making for your wedding, and I'd love to visit your
webpage--so what's the URL?

Hi! I'm not exactly a lurker (have posted - or tried to) but I am new to
the news group and to the internet in general. I've been quilting since a
new neighbor took me upstairs to show me the quilt on her bed. It was love
at first sight, and I've been quilting ever since (5 years now). I do some
teaching at a local shop - just about enough to cover the cost of my habit
on a good month. I also teach school (half time) and have 4 kids ages 6 to
15.
Nice to meet you all!

About my wedding signature quilt..I'm having a very pale light blue
wedding. So...there I was running around fabric stores, not able to just
buy anything I wanted...I was on a mission to find the perfect fabric.
Of course as ya'll probably know...such a thing does nto exist except in
the quilters mind! So..I found a fabric with the color blue I wanted as
a background, and it has pink hearts on it, and music notes sprinkled
around. (My fiance and I love music.) I'm just using white as the center
for signatures. So far...all I've got done is cutting out the
pieces..and drawing my lines on (I'll be sewing a whole square to the
corner, one down the center from corner to corner, and another 1/2 inch
away going diagnolly, then I'll cut the little extra off. This should
keep the leftover triangle from stretching at all. Saw it on a quilt
show.) I'm thinking about a flying geese border. If I had the time, I'd
probably do a seminole border...I've yet to try one of those..they
intimidate me.
This is so strange for me. Usually the only people who are really
interesting in hearing about my quilts, are my mom, and my fiance! I
can hardly contain my excitement!! hehe
I hope the OT & not OT is an appropriate subject. And thanks again Sandy
for being interested in my quilt. =)
BTW: Is there a FAQ for this newsgroup? (I think I asked before, but I
don't remember getting a response.)
And also..thanks to all the others who have welcomed me to this group.
The open arms around here have already taken a lot off stress away from
my life. =) *hugs*

How do I have the time to quilt with all the wedding preparations?? I
have a wonderful, amazing, loving mom! =) (She has to be..she taught me
how to quilt after all..and isn't that a wonderful gift?)
Ahh...we all have reasons as to why we have ufo's...the
answer...well..there is one universal answer. We girls just have such
large brains, that there's too many patterns rushing through to get each
one done before starting another. =)

The colors are a magenta solid and a multi-colored flowered print. The back
is a gingham yellow check.
You people are so right --- it is like and addiction. I do a couple of
squares and then I say to myself "I'll just do a couple more and before you
know it my eyes are blurring" !!!! It is calming though to sit and just
make tiny stitches. I am so glad I decided to try this craft. I have
always admired the quilts when we went to fairs and visited small towns like
Julian. I used to say 'someday, I will try that'. The some day has
arrived!! ;^D
I am remodeling a Den/office/quilt retreat in the former nursery (I
know, a great way to get a "surprise blessing " baby) and an old
friend is doing the Halogen track lights for us. He brough his 14
year old daughter with him as a helper. Well, one of the first quilts
I made was a Sunbonnet Sue/Overall Sam baby quilt for her. Her mother
is not much of a "quilty" person and I have always wondered what
happened to that quilt and if she still kept it. You see we drifted
apart when we all left an unhealthy church situation about ten years
ago.
Well ....... I asked the girl about the green Sunbonnet Sue quilt. My
heart *soared* when this gangly teen shyly answered "oh, it is one of
my favorite things, I still keep it on my bed". She didn't know I had
made it, but she loves it!! One of my "babies" is still a lovey after
all these years.
Thank you all for the encouragement and stories and tips and general
human sharing. I had almost stopped quilting, and thanks to you, I am
re-finding an important part of who I am. Thanks.

Well, hi, anyway, Gretchen, even if you aren't a lurker. Now about that
sentence quoted above; did it *have* to sound so much like you were
introducing yourself in a 10-step program??? lol
Isn't the NG fun? I live in a small town with no quilt guild or shop, so
it's really great for me, too. My DH really tries to be supportive, but
he doesn't want all the gory details of what I'm doing; he just wants to
admire a plan or a completed section. So it's wonderful to have this
group and the other one I get via e-mail to talk to.
As far as a FAQ for the NG goes, I really don't have any idea! No one
has mentioned one since I've been there, which is only since about
February or March, when I finally got a modem.
Good luck, and keep us all posted on the progress of your quilt. Will
you put up a photo when it's done?
Gee, when I first started donating the fabric scraps to the people all

But that was the point! This is the only grou pwho understands my
obsession! Let's see, what would the steps be...
1. Admit that your stash is taking over your baby's closet.
2. Recognize that you will never NOT have UFOs, and that's ok.
Others?
I've been quilting about 7 years--only by machine. I'm the kind that wants
quick results--usually on a deadline. Like so many others, my first quilt was
for my king sized waterbed. Imagine a radiant star with no knowledge of
color contrast or what bias edges were. Matching points was a pain, but for
some reason the center point came out perfectly. As I've learned about how to
use color more wisely, I've decided that quilt needs to be replaced. I have
the fabric for a court house steps quilt for the bed.
I've done several tablerunners with coordinating napkins for wedding gifts
(small happy dance for just completing another one-only 2 weeks late. Now if
I can just get it washed and mailed--that will be a bigger happy dance.)
I just finished putting together a top in a class. It is a watercolor flower
basket--my 1st attempt at a watercolor. It was fun to place all those 2"
squares and try to make it look like a bouquet of flowers. My DH looked at it
after I pinned it to the family room curtain so I could look at it and was
amazed at all the seams.
I only have 1 more wedding tablerunner and 2 baby quilts due. (I love the
children's print flannel for the backing on baby quilts. They make the quilt
so cozy, especially in the rainy NW.
I'm in Milwaukie, OR--just south of Portland. (Hi Janet from Portland. I
think we work in the same place based on your logon id.)
Thanks for always making the newbies welcome.

Can I apologize just _once_ to each of my kids for all of the
_many_ times I have used that "I'll just be minute" line and
ended up entranced at the fabric store? And, yes, the meals

it on the heat. Who wants to cook in August?
This should be a great OT topic. Can't wait to see others

Hi Stephanie! My name is Sally Estes. I am 26 and have also been quilting
only a couple of years. I live in DeKalb (northern) Illinois. Perhaps we
could get together sometime on some traveling adventure. I love to go to
MN and WI!!!
This has been so much fun - love hearing from all the lurkers and almost
lurkers, newbies and not so newbies. Thanks Arline!!

Hi everyone,
My name is Diana and I have been enjoying all of your conversations for
about 7 months now. I,too, am a self taught quilter and I have been
quilting on and off for a number of years. Most of my quilts are king
size and all are hand quilted, so it takes a while to complete one. The
lastest one I've fininshed is a Jacob's ladder in shades of blue. I
made matching pillow shams and throw pillows.
During the summer I'm very busy with my perennial flower garden, so
quilting gets pushed aside for a while. I'm starting to"feel the urge
coming on" to begin another one and just have to decide what it will be.
Like many of you, I have a box of denim squares and maybe will do
something with them.
Thank you all for the past 7 months of knowledge & entertainment! I
hope to get to know all of you better and maybe even post again sometime
:).

I totally agree with the flannel for little ones!! I'm hand quilting a
triple irish chain completely from the pastel baby flannels... It's sooo
soft!! Next time i'll probably machine quilt, tho.. it's a bear, but
wanted to do something extra special for my neice :)

I enjoyed your web page. It's nice to be able to put a face to your

Gretchen,
Welcome! Don't worry that your quilt has been in the UFO stage for 2
years... it took me 10 years to finish my first quilt! (I did make some
other quilts in between, but I made so many mistakes in the first one
that it had to grow nostalgic before I wanted to do anything about those
mistakes.) You'll finish it in it's own time!
Great to hear from you, and keep on postin'!
Awwwwwwww! And here I was, feeling sorry for her 'cause she had to go
camping again. Should have known, Arline's definition of camping = my
definition of vacation. So, how tall are you, and how tall is Arline?
Bet I've got you both beat!
Is Arline really fabric deprived? I think she's just fabric depraved!
How can anyone who buys 70 yards of fabric in one month be fabric
deprived? (VB evil G!) We've still got to make sure she has those
corals and yellows though. I'm gonna see what I can do about that.

Michelle,
Well, some tips that I learned from this group are:
1. If you have a CLEAN tile floor, tape the backing fabric down, with
the right side to the tile so it's flat and taut. Someone chimed in
that you know you are a quilter when the kitchen floor is SPOTLESS so
you can baste your latest quilt on it.
2. Use a yardstick to flat that bat out on top of the backing fabric.
Sarah swears by it!
3. Use brass safety pins (size 01) to pin-baste that sucker, and put
all the pins in before you close any of them. You need a kajillion
pins. Don't neglect the basting, 'cause if you do, you'll reach
critical mess.
4. If you are going to hand quilt, choose either a Quilter's Cotton
batt or a 80/20 Cotton/Polyester batt. Other cotton bats can be hard to
needle, although they are fine if you are going to quilt by machine.
5. A spoon or store-bought tool helps to close those safety pins.
Personally I just use a regular ol' spoon from the kitchen. Others
prefer the ones you can buy with the notch in them, or the quick clip
tool.
Glad you're here, and good luck! Let us know how it goes, and by all
means, ask if you need more help when it gets to the sandwiching stage!
Diana,
Don't wait for "sometime" post now! We want to hear more!

Good grief, woman, That's why God made microwaves...
Donna, and everyone! This is distressing to me! I joined in just a few
short months before Donna started reading this group. There are posts
that get responses and posts that don't. Sometimes, I am really
surprised by the ones that get responses.
Donna, as a teacher and a person who has made over 100 quilts I hope you
know that you are SO QUALIFIED to answer questions!! I implore you to
shine your wisdom down on us! I watch for posts that go unanswered, and
try to get back to people, especially when they ask a question, but I
only have so much time, and obviously I miss a lot!
I know other people who read the NG and just look for posts by certain
people. Obviously, a lot of people blitz by topics they are not
interested in. Everyone has their own style of reading this. Think of
a newspaper. Some people start with the sports page, and others with
the advice columns. Some people read the Editorials, and some people
just have time for the national news and skip over the local stuff that
they will see on television. Hardly anyone reads the whole thing!
Anyone..if you post and don't get a response, it isn't anything
personal. Post again.
Thanks for chiming in this time. I hope we can all learn from your
observations.

Hi! I've been lurking for a couple of weeks and really enjoying this
ng. I'm brand new to quilting, just finished my first project. It's
a small wallhanging made up of sailboat blocks. It's not quite even
but I learned alot while making it so I'm sure my next project (a
scrappy kalidascope wallhanging) will be better. Eventually I will
work my way up to bed size quilts. :-) My projects tend to go quite
slowly so it might be awhile. I've got cross-stitch, needlepoint
and crochet UFOs backed up to my eyeballs so I probably didn't need
to take on learning a new skill but I've been wanting to learn to
quilt for ages! I'm really excited about finally having started!
BTW Arline, I grew up in Walla Walla. Living in SD now but still get
back to that area occasionally to visit DH's family.

What a great idea ! I wish I had thought of that for the bow tie quilt I

hi arline and everyone else, too
i'm not exactly a lurker as i've posted a few times. but i am fairly new
to the newsgroup and i don't think i've ever formally introduced myself.
i've been reading since last april. when i found this newsgroup i was so
excited, i felt so at home. then came the strange little tiff and i
really felt at home-so like my actual family-(vbg)
i live in the mountains in southern california with my very dear
husband(who has run away for the day to go four wheeling in the southern
sierras-what freedom!) and our four furry children, the kitty
monsters-bonnie, sassy, emmy and b.b. I have been a beginning quilter for
about five years. i'm still learning a lot, especially from this group.
i take classes-mainly for the company- and belong to the local guild. i
also try to squeeze gardening, this newsgroup, reading
(sci-fi/fantasy and mysteries) and a full time job into the mix.
i have finished nine quilts from very small wallhangings to twin bed
size. i currently have two that only need the binding stitched down, 5
tops complete- 2 bed quilts and 3 wallhangings which need to be sandwiched
and quilted, 4 in the process of piecing, one which needs borders and
four sets of blocks that i have won at quilt guild. i think i am in
trouble(vvbg)
enough about me. thanks for the welcome, the o.t.s and all the help.

Welcome. What a delight you are. You should be extremely proud of
yourself. I love the idea of freindship quilts like the one you did for
your friend who got married. My daughters were in Rainbow Girls and we did
several friendship quilts for the Grand Officers....in fact the first quilt
I ever did was a HUGE one for Kristin's friend Jennifer who was Grand
California...... It was a project that was almost overwhelming....however,
I think Jennifer enjoyed it as much as i enjoyed putting it together...
However, I sure wish I had known what in the heck i was doing.
Tell us how the bride liked her quilt/wallhanging...Again...
Congratulations.

Lisa,
Thanks for the compliments. =) Yes, I did write that story myself. It's
a new hobby of mine. The "archives" at the bottom of that page..will
take you to my older stories, if you're interested in those. And about
putting a photo up of the quilt when I finish it, don't worry!! I got
all the blocks made this weekend. I plan on sewing all the blocks
together this week, then adding the borders on when I go to my mom's
this weekend.
Hehe...the further along I get on this quilt..the more I think "I'm
gonna let people write on this??" But, I've decided to give them
pencils to write what they want, and later I will embroider their words.
(If I decide I'm that ambitious that is..)
Thanks again!

Ha ha, Cindy in Ky!
As far as alternatives to DH goes, here's what DS means now at my house.
My 6 year old comedian was sitting on the cedar chest I was just moved
into the living room (yes, so I could take some quilt tops out and think
yet again about quilting them...) and baby Charlie, who is now just
learning to cruise the furniture was wobbling about her feet. She was to
all appearances absorbed in something she was holding, a book or small
toy or something, and the baby was banging on the chest, making his
travelin' noise sort of a "doo-doot!" kind of chugging sound. DH and I
wondered aloud what "doo doot" meant, and Bo without looking up or
missing a beat answered "It means Dear Sister!" Like are parents dumb,
or what?!

And besides that, you can always (in this part of the country) take

Warning!! Probably tasteless, but otherwise amusing material!
A while ago I was typing a letter to an e-mail friend and mentioned DH.
DH has a habit of reading over my shoulder while he's talking to me,
irritating, but I'll keep him anyway! He sees the DH part and says, " Are
you calling me a D*&% Head?" ROTFL!
He really is a sweetie though and after twenty years I think I have to
keep him! (It's in the rules somewhere) He tolerates my collecting (fabric
and sewing machines) very well and even finds things for me to add. He
can spot an old Singer a mile away! He never ever questions how much I
spend on fabric. He never complains about the condition of the house, and
if he's hungry and I'm sewing, he cooks! I am very lucky!

Patty,
So good to know more about you! Thanks for the introduction, and keep
posting!
I live in Springfield, VA and also have two small children, 5 and 7. My
first project was a small, paper pieced, Storm at Sea wall quilt . When II
signed up for the class I wrongly assumed I would be making a king size
spread for our bed! My next project was a quilt for my five year old
daughter. She loves cats and I found a wonderful pattern in a Quilts to
Share book. My seven year old son wanted a civil war theme quilt and I
couldn't come up with any real good ideas. I found a pattern for a Pioneer
Sampler Quilt. This is my current project. I am making it in Reds, Whites,
and Blues - It looks very patriotic and he loves it. I started machine
quilting but soon realized that I much prefer the look of hand-quiling so I
am currently hand quilting his quilt. I am hoping that my DH will be
willing to buy me a hoop and stand for my birthday later this month.
Take care and welcome to the group.
P.S. I am also a newbie here.
