After a very busy week, and a busy weekend, I'm finally getting caught up
with the ng.
Last Sunday I took a Folk Art Designing class from Nellie Holmes from
UpperCanada Quiltworks. What a neat lady. She has a great sense of humour
and a very giving heart. She encouraged us to fly on our own, and take
liberty with her designs if we wished.
I ended up working with felt, everyone else had cottons, and designed a
series of four seasonal angels.
Spring is based on a tulip body, summer a strawberry, fall a pumpkin and
winter a snowman. Have two of them buttonhole stitched, two cut out ready
to buttonhole stitch and then to do some embellishments with buttons and
some stitching.
My friend Ethel designed a wonderful piece based on a Haida tale of the
Raven finding the Sun. One other gal was working on a beach scene in
Australia with bright beach cabanas. A lot of folks were working on
traditional designs of hearts, baskets, angels. Although one or two did
design dog and cat angels.
If you are interested in this style of quilting check out her website at
http://www.uppercanadaquiltworks.com/index.htmShe shares it with two other Canadian designers. I'd also recommend her
program and classes to your guild if interested. She has some wonderful
stories, and great slides besides a trunk show.
