Hi, everybody,
just want to introduce myself: My name is Dorothy, quilting for nearly five
years now but new on the internet. As you would have noticed: I'm certainly
not a native speaker. So don't laugh too loud about my silly english.

Reading all your notes I wonder what " OT" means...

Greatings from good old Germany,
Dorothy

Wilkommen, Doro!

OT means Off Topic. Some people want to read only quilting messages so
OT makes it easy for them to ignore non-quilting messages.

Tschuss!

Hi Dorothy!

In most other newsgroups OT means "on topic" - here it means "Off Topic"
leasts that's the way I've always thought. What are you working on at the
moment quilt wise? Tell us about yourself and your family. BTW you speak
English real good. BTW also I loved my time in Germany way back in 1988 -
spent New Years Eve 1989 in a small Armenian restaurant in West Berlin -
superb. Where in Germany are you?

Welcome to the group! My husband's family was from Germany. Our last
name is Hirt. I am going to put a huge list of quilting Web sites on
the newsgroup in a minute, but I'll put it here so you'll be sure to
get it, too.

What kind of quilts to you make? Do you hand piece or machine? I
usually machine piece and machine quilt, as I don't have a lot of time
to do it by hand. I like new twists on old ideas or patterns. I love
to embellish my quilts with about anything I can find!

Do you work outside of the home? I teach quilting, lecture, and do
the Web sites and newsletters for several organizations.
Professionally, I am a Web designer and do desktop publishing
(newsletters, brochures, etc.)

Something my friend and I did was flower pounding. You take a leaf or
flower and lay it on a piece of muslin, put a paper towel on top and
pound it with a hammer! She made a quilt out of leaves for a friend
of hers who has a nature center.

Hope you enjoy the group!

Lee

I usually do all machine work and love just about ANY
colors! Living now in Virginia, USA, near the Atlantic
Ocean. Have lived in the Oberpfalz (between Nurnberg
and the border), also Vaihingen/Stuttgart, also
Heidelberg. I was a member of the Hearts and Castle

Thank you for the nice welcome!.
You want to know something about me, so listen: I was born in Hamburg, but
we moved to a small village in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern five years ago. That
was just before I took up quilting. At that time I was positive to grow a
beautiful garden...LOL... But then I discovered quilting. By now I only
managed to plant a hedge with bush roses, as they don't need much care. I'm
part-time working in an environmental organisation, and the other part of my
life is divided between: DH, DS (16), 2 cats, 1 dog, 9 hens, 1 rooster and
of course: QUILTING.
I am a member of the german quilting guild and I just enlisted in the AQS.
I always start with a traditional block, but often I make little changings.
And I like "candy" colors, pinks, light blues, purple, soft yellow and
peach. So my quilts are not totally traditional, but a little bit
contemporary. I am just learning how to applique. I managed to complete a
heart quilt for DH just in time for valentinsday.
I enjoy to have contact to all you quilters in the world by joining this
list.

Official Chocolate Taster for RCTQ EMERITUS!!! So, the

This action is entirely voluntary. One: I've held the

busy altering waist lines to fulfill the duties of

Hi, Dorothy, you have *perfect* English! So don't worry about that.
Sometimes our native-speakers have more errors in their posts than you will

Welcome to r.c.t.q.! Jump into any of the conversations or ask questions --
we're glad to have you here.

OT means "Off Topic" because frequently we stray from the topic of

OT means "off topic." In other words, it's a post about something not
related to the newsgroup's main focus, which in this newsgroup is quilting.
Lots of people do it when they get a thread going about personal stuff,
recipes, etc. That way, the people who want to read only about quilting can
just skip over those posts.
