Usually, I'd choose the colors of their hair - both red and dark red, the
watermelon green or the basket's dark gold to sash or 4-patch. This one
baffles me. Anything I try seems to cause the special little Ann blocks to
fade away. How do I make them pop out? Not a panic. I'm sure anything
logical will be fine; just thought you might have an idea that would make
this shelter quilt very special. Polly

If the former, I would think black might be your best bet? Then, if
you use lavender sashing, you would lighten it up again.
If the latter, then use the lavender of the check perhaps?
