color suggestions?

I'm fussy cutting little Raggedy Ann and Andy blocks. The background is in
the purple family. You can see the fabric here at

Usually, I'd choose the colors of their hair - both red and dark red, the
watermelon green or the basket's dark gold to sash or 4-patch. This one
baffles me. Anything I try seems to cause the special little Ann blocks to
fade away. How do I make them pop out? Not a panic. I'm sure anything
logical will be fine; just thought you might have an idea that would make
this shelter quilt very special. Polly

first off, i dont know squat but i was wondering what happens
if you use the same lavender as the background so the sashing
blends with the background.
do Ann and Andy stand out?
or how about the soft blue of Anns dress and Andys trousers.
seems you covered the rest of the colours.
or would a border round each block in lavender, then use blue
as the sashing be too much, beats heck outta me.
really cute fabric for a kiddys quilt.

Sorry to be 'dull' here, but are you cutting little squares with the
dolls so that you have some check background with them; or are you
cutting round the dolls so that there is no check?

If the former, I would think black might be your best bet? Then, if
you use lavender sashing, you would lighten it up again.
If the latter, then use the lavender of the check perhaps?

This is a tricky one.

Try setting them as either snowballs or square-in-a-square(s), with
alternating dark purple and lime green in the corners. so the corners
make quarter-square triangles. Snowballs would be a better color
proportion, if your blocks are big enough. If lime is too much, the
buttercream yellow would work too. And they probably need an outer
border of the Raggedy fabric, with an inner border in lime/cream
and/or purple.

Thank you all. That was the first time - or at least the first time in
memory that I had a fabric that wasn't speaking to me. Usually I just know
what will be wonderful with the happy little prints but not this time. I've
framed the fussy cuts in a confetti black and floated them on just barely
yellow. Probably some lime and purple 4-patches will go somewhere.
Two heads sometimes are better than one. How I wish you were here for
tea or wine to brainstorm with me in person. That would be so great. Polly
