I'm new to computing, the net and newsgroups. I've been searching the
net with what little knowledge I have but to no avail. Haven't been
able to find any quilting prints. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Just to save face with your group, I do cross stitch and enjoy it very
much. Sewing is out of the question for me. I belong to sewers and
ironers anonyomous so you can see my dilemma. I have, on occasion, been
known to pick up a neddle and thread and sew a button on, or press, not
iron, a cross stitch project before framing it. That's about as far as
it goes.

I am also a member in good standing of ironer's anonymous, and so was
my mother. For years there were baskets of laundry that lived in the
bedroom during the day and migrated to the living room at night. One
year my mom sent me a large package- yup, it was the
ironing.....mostly linen tablecloths and napkins and sheets and the
like. This fall I opened a very large trunk in the closet under her
stairs- more of the ironing! Now I need creative uses for lots of
damask tablecloths and napkins. And no, opening a restaurant is not
an option!

Diane Phalen is probably one of the most famous quilt painters. You can
see some of her paintings at this website:

I know of a few others. E-mail me if you'd like more artists!

I am also a quilt-lover without any quilting experience. There is something
about a quilt that is gives one a feeling of warmth and security!
I am planning, SOMEDAY (when I get enough money put aside) to take a
quilting class so I'll be able to make some of these lovely works of my
own... But, until that time, I've contented myself with stitching a few
quilt patterns.
There are a number of pretty quilt patterns in various booklets if you look
around. But, lately, I have stitched a number of quilt block patterns from a
Better Homes and Gardens publication called "Cross-Stitch & Needlework".
The publication was headed "Cross-Stitch Ornaments" and the date was 1996.
If you send an inquiry to the Editor, you may be able to purchase a copy of
the magazine.

LOL! We had an "ironing pile" when I was a kid. I remember having this
favorite shirt and waiting for it to show up in my drawer again (this was
when I was about six or so). It didn't, for the longest time, and my
mother finally suggested that I try the ironing pile. It was there,
alright...and I'd outgrown it! After that, we sort of considered the
ironing pile to be the family Bermuda Triangle and if something wasn't back
in your drawer after a week, it was never coming back!

I once told my kids that I had lost the
directions that came with the iron !!! My
ironing pile did serve a valuable purpose
though. When one of the kids was whining to
get something ( a ride somewhere, a new
shirt/blouse, 2 wks in Disneyworld,
whatever) and they got the answer, "Just as
soon as I finish the ironing, dear" they
knew they were being put off indefinately,
and gave up.

I am the one that dragged a box of ironing around for 22 years while my
husband served in the military.... The thought of all those packers
putting another sticker on that box marked IRONING....lol.... gets me
going!
When he unpacked and seen highschool shirts....he died..... NOW he does the
laundry and irons his own shirts.... his closet looks so tidy!
So there.... Bon Bon and Teresa.... I blew my own horn again.... those two
will tell that story of my ironing to complete strangers who join us in our
Philly stitching group....... NO wonder we don't get many new members... I
frighten them!! LOL :-))

When my daughter was 2, we visited my aunt, who brought out a top iron
and ironing board for Chelle to play with. DD's reaction? "What's
that?"
Just say "this fabric is _supposed_ to be wrinkled."

I have seen a nice booklet of xs quilt patterns by Paula Vaughn called "A
Year of Quilts" (I think). It is a collection of 12 designs featuring a
seasonal scene dominated by quilts. I didn't buy it at the time (another
for my regret list) but I am still planning to pick it up. just think..12
things to go into my seasonal UFO box. Anyway, it sounds like something you
might enjoy.

To show you how much I iron, I'll tell a little story.
When my youngest DD was about 5, a cousin and her husband were
visiting. My cousin asked if she could use an iron and when I took it
out of the closet my DD asked "what that funny looking thing was"!!!!!
For a brief moment I was embarassed.
I have taught her how to iron and she is as allergic to it as her older
sister and I am!!!!

Hi Marianne!
You have just joined. The only real criteria for membership is an
absolute loathing for ironing and/or the wearing of permanent wrinkle
clothing.
I have an inspirational friend who I'm sure all members of ironer's
anonymous would look up to.
She has actually *SOLD* her ironing board.
I'd aspire to do likewise if it weren't for my needlework.

I think I am a charter member!!! The only ironing I will do is
actually pressing -- and only fabric for quilting projects. This I am
fairly anal about -- I wash, dry and press my fabric, and I am
conscientious about pressing seams after I sew them, etc.
I still don't enjoy it, though. Just today I spent almost 2.5 hours
(yes, you read that right!) pressing newly washed fabric procured
during Quilt S.E.X.!
Cheers!
