Greetings oh mighty needle-wielders....

Jes' curious... Have any of you run across attractive, bold charts that
utilize a stained-glass style in the pattern? The content ofthe design
needn't be religious, I'm simply interested in the style.

Merci buckets in advance...

There are also a couple *sister* charts called "Gather Ye Rosebuds" and
"While Ye May" that are a stained-glass effect. I have the two in my stash
and will likely never stitch them. If you're interested, e-mail me and I'll
describe them in more detail for you.

I've seen a chart for a Louis Comfort Tiffany stained glass piece called
'View of __________ Harbor" [sorry but I can't remember the exact title
at the moment. The colors were absolutely beautiful.

I recently finished one along this line...a cross-stitch version of the
Tiffany window "View of Oyster Bay". I believe this may be out of print,
but would be worth the hunt...gorgeous.

One thing I always wanted to do is some kind of Rose Window in
cross-stitch...anyone know of a pattern along this line? Or perhaps a
website with a good picture of one? (Time to warm up my copy of

Good medieval patterns are hard to find. There are tons of
medievalism-inspired ones, like Wm. Morris--which are lovely, I'm not
knocking them--but for us addicts, they don't quite do it! There are a few
Lady/Unicorn ones, but they're not very detailed.

I do have an idea for a design, actually...now that I'm unemployed I might
actually chart it...unfortunately my imagination is way more talented than
my drawing hand. I think TW could do it justice, but I don't think I can!

Hi there! If you will elaborate on what type of subject matter you are
interested in, I will be happy to design something. Many of my original
engraving patterns could be easily adapted into a stained glass style
presentation. I do ornamental engraving on weapons and glass and wood
carvings (among other things), so I have quite a library of artwork to pull
from. Let me know if you are interested in something contemporary, art
nouveau, or traditional, or any thing else specific.

Well, lessee, there is:
"Gather Ye Rosebuds" (medieval lady in
profile facing right, sniffing a rose)

"While Ye May" (companion piece of a
youth in profile, facing left).

"View From Oyster Bay" (adaptation of
Louis Comfort Tiffany window)

and two other adaptations of Tiffany
windows (I have those at home, can't
remember their titles). I believe that
the Tiffany window charts are now out
of print. They were published by Kappie
Originals.

I've stitched the Gather Ye Rosebuds
and one of these days, I'll get to
the companion piece. I definitely
want to do Oyster Bay, cuz I have
the perfect spot for it in my dining
area.

There are several great stained glass style patterns that I have seen:

1. View From Oyster Bay, the Louis Comfort Tiffany window
Done by Kappie Originals who are unfortunately out of business and
the chart is on the endangered (if not extinct) list.

2. Peacock Stained Glass Window
Also by Kappie Originals (see above)

3. Mary Hickmott in her New Stitches magazine often has stained glass
designs:
Edwardian Elegance, issue #8, page 31
Dazzling display, issue #12, page 62
Rose Window, issue #20, page 8 (totally awesome IMO)
Shades of Grandeur, issue #30, page 29
Edwardian Echos, issue #32, page 42

There are a couple of art glass windows patterns in the Cross Stitch
and Country Crafts catalog called Art Glass Windows I and II, also a
Frank Lloyd Wright window done in blues called Wysteria Window. If
you don't have the catalog, the number is 1-800-709-7000.

There is a book available - MEDIEVAL CROSS STITCH SAMPLERS - by Angela
Wainwright. It has a stained glass pattern in it, as well as other useful

It's published by Cassell, but I got it through BH &G or Rodale's.

Another stained glass window piece is in Beth Russell's
_Victorian Needlepoint_ book. It has a view of a
cloud-strewn sky through a window which has a Tiffany-style
branch with leaves and swallows on it. SOMEday I'm going to
do that one. BTW, it's a needlepoint design, but as I
recall it has no partial stitches so could be a counted
cross stitch complete with blended needles.

What would be perfect would be one with daisies or wildflowers...maybe a

Jen,
I too am working on The Wedding. My daughter is getting married in
October and I am doig this for her as a shower present. I had seen this
pattern before and I swore that I would never do it because there is so
much white. But now that I have started it I am surprised how easy it
is especially with the pattern showing one side with the white and one
side without. I have been working on it for two weeks and am almost
finished the back of the bride's dress past the bows. I sure hope that
I can finish it in time.

I'll second the above and add a vote for TW's Wedding Sampler. Both are
pretty involved, tho. If you want simpler there are lots of samplers out
there you could change the saying on. You say you don't want roses or
cherubs, but wildflowers and/or daisies. Are you looking to go more
rustic/country?

If you are interested in more rustic/country, Earth Threads has a pattern called Country Fair that might adapt well to a wedding. I just did it and it nice looking--also simple. There isn't a place to put names/dates in, but I think that could be added. Unfortunately, I don't think they have a web page.

Hope this helps.
