Hi gang:

Last year a number of folks who did "Flower Power" talked about painting
or sponging the fabric with fabric paints. IIRC, the lower part of the
fabric was lightly sponged with pale green and some the upper part lightly
sponged or daubed with blue.

Then the stitching was done on top, so that the painted sections just
showed through very lightly - rather like a watercolour wash.

Would anyone who did this let me know what paints you used, please? I
have a source for silk paints (Setacolor), but would like to get some
opinions before I start.

I picked up the fabric on the weekend, - 'spensive, but I'm worth it <G>

Is this the piece from Crossed Wing Collection?

yes yes yes. It's lovely. I'm in the FP mailing group -- even tho I haven't
started stitching the major piece. However I stitched some element for a
butterfly sampler for my aunt and uncle last Christmas, and a strand of
flowers & hummers on a sweatshirt for a friend too (haven't seen it on her
yet or had any real comments, don't think I'll be making something big and
complicated for her again :P).

At the Crossed Wing booth at SOCS Des Moines they had some hand painted
fabric for use with their '5th Day' chart...it was beautiful! I talked
to Paula about similar fabric for 'Flower Power'....even fabric painted
shades of sky blue on top and leafy greens on the bottom...and signed
her mailing list with the suggestion. She said she would talk to her
painter about it, so you might want to check directly with Crossed Wing
(email addy: xdw...@athenet.net ) later this year.

If that doesn't pan out, I plan to use an 'ice blue' zweigert fabric
to give just a hint of sky (it is very pale blue) to lend some realism.

BTW, their booth was my favorite in both Knoxville and Des Moines...in
K'ville they even had a bird feeder full of trail mix for us weary
shoppers....truly nice people!
