With that last thread on wips I was just wondering how many do you usually
have at 1 time. I have always done 2 projects at a time.

I usually am a one at a time project person, and I am sooooo close to
getting it done I'll be doing a major happy dance here in the near
future.

I usually do a minimum of two at a time...most of the time, one large that I
leave on my floor stand and one small that I carry around with me. Right at
the moment I've got three: 1 large (MLI's "The Wedding") and 2 small (Lizzie
Kate's "A Child Is Born" and a door hanger for the big brother of the baby).
:)

However, occasionally other things have to get pushed into the rotation, like
Christmas ornaments, gifts, etc. :)

Speaking of rotation....I do rotate projects, I guess, but I don't do any
particular system, just work on something until I'm bored/frustrated with it,
then move on to something else for a while. :)

I've currently got one major WIP - teresa Wentzler's 'Camelot Sampler'
and two smaller ones - a silhouette of men at a coal mine, and a baby
unicorn. Can't remember the designers of these two...

Wellllllllllll, I've got 2 major works in progress, both fairly big
(for me), they're MLI's Provence Sampler and 'Stay Warm' by Just My
Imagination. Then there's a long-dormant baby sampler (ok, so the baby
is now 4); an ornament that I didn't get finished last year (it was
over-one), and a little Bent Creek picture from a magazine about a
year ago. I like them all, really I do, but, well, um, they're just
not calling me. Although the ornament is periodically letting out
ghostly sighs in my direction.

I like to have seven WIPs in rotation. I work on each one for two
days, then move on to the next. That way in two weeks I'm back at
the beginning and I haven't had time to forget what I was doing ;-).
Right now, however, I'm working on a Christmas gift that is going to
take quite a bit of doing, so I've put my whole rotation aside to
concentrate on it. Then I have several baby things to do for my
coming grandchild, so it will be some time before I get back to my
rotation.

I currently have several (hmm, let's count). A baby afghan, a small cat
(Twisted Threads?) a Something in Common sampler, a Shepherds' Bush piece,
will start a Victoria Samplar cyberclass this week and a Reproduction
samplar that I will be doing with my samplar group. I rotate haphazardly,
depending on whether a large work is overwhelming me, or if a gift has to be
finished in a timely fashion, or if I get bored. Got to start on those Xmas
ornaments soon too. I guess, about 3 are in active progress at any one
time.

I have one large and one small piece going at a time -- the large is on a
scroll frame (either attached to my floorstand, lapstand, or help in my hands
depending on the size and my mood) and a small one stored in a ziploc and kept
in my purse for those "waiting moments" that cannot be wasted.

My current biggie is Thea Gouveneur's Indonesian Dancer (which is turning out
more beautifully than I had dared imagine) and the little ones are generally
Shepherd's Bush Fold kits or Periwinkle Promises Sampler Accents or something
tiny like that that can be stitched in hand.

Well, I used to do one project at a time. BUT, after reading this NG for
awhile and finally moving to a town with an LNS, I too have multiple WIPs.

1. CB's Murder Mystery Sampler
2. Set of 4 Hardanger Coasters
3. A pulled thread quilt design
4. Star of David design for a friend
5. Threads of Gold ornament - Love Came down at Christmas (doing 2 of these
as gifts)
6. Threads of Gold ornament - It is in giving that we receive (plan to do 4
of these as gifts)
7. Silent Night by Debra Battle (local designer)
8. 4 christmas ornaments by Debra Battle

I'm embarassed. I didn't realize I had this many going until I actually
counted them. Most of them are small ornaments and I hope to be done with
them shortly.

Actually, I need a magical wardrobe that lead to Narnia- you know, where
time moves differently. Then I could pop into the wardrobe, spend a few
Narnian years, get many things stitched and come back with finished
products. Think you could manage one of those?

As for wips, the Nativity Camel, the Bear buddies bag, the Home for
Christmas stocking, and one of the Cherished teddies in the pumpkin suit
from the Herrsechnerr's calendar. No one can make me tell how many UFOs that
are waiting for attention. And many projects kitted and SCREAMING my name.

I have Amish Star that I started a few years ago & haven't touched since
then (but have every intention of getting back to <lol>)
Three Xmas tabletoppers for my sisters' Xmas presents and
a Pooh picture that is a real pain in the **** because of all the
quarter stitches & 3/4 stitches. I love the way it's coming out,
though, so I keep doing them. I'm glad I switched to evenweave after
doing the first 12 x 12 (stitch) square, though. Continueing with the
Aida enclosed in the kit would have had the project in the garbage can
by now. :-)
I also have a plethora (I don't get to use that word much ) :-) of UFOs
in the guest room in NP and Crewel that I also still plan on finishing.
I wish people would quit having weddings, housewarmings and babies for a
while so I could get back to my "regular" stash. :-))) Those projects
always seem to be taking cuts in line. :-)

What is it with those Pooh designs? My neighbor's little girl wanted me to
teach her to XS. (She's 10). I told her mom to take her to our LNS and
get one of the beginner's kits they have there. Well, she takes her to
Michael's instead and she comes back with two Pooh designs loaded with
quarter stitches and 3/4 stitches. We tried it, but she was getting too
frustrated with all those 1/4 and 3/4 stitches. And to top it off, all the
thread in each of those kits was dry rotted. Needless to say, I packed her
up and we went to the LNS and bought a good beginners chart and all the
necessities. If she had stuck it out with that Pooh design she would have
given up on XS for good. So far, she's really enjoying XSing. I just
wonder why they put so many difficult stitches in a design that is
naturally going to attract children. I guess they think the children won't
be the ones stiching it?

I know just the ones you're talking about! My 9-year-old daughter picked out
the kit at Micheal's -- it looked appropriate because there were only about a
dozen colors and there were big solid blocks of color. She started on it and
we found that there are 1/4 and 3/4 stitches in almost every row! She finally
gave up on it and it sits gathering dust. I don't want to spend the time
finishing it because the design is too simple to hold my interest -- she
doesn't want to do it because of the fractional stitches.

I am working on a Leisure Arts Dreamcatcher that I did about three years ago.I
rarely repeat a design; however, I am a push-over for people who do not stitch
but enjoy the finished product. I have another project calling to me. It is a
carousel horse by Barbara Baatz called Fantasy Ride. I also did this design
about five years ago. This one will be for a friend I didn't know at that
time. However, I tend to do only one
time consuming project at as time. I don't count the smaller, less difficult
projects like bookmarks, small "fun" pieces.
I am not the average 200 stitches per hour
stitcher. I stitch closer to 150 stitches per hour. I stitch for enjoyment
(theraphy).

have had to change that because I am not going to the
one place I used to stitch outside the house any more.

I feel overwhelmed if I have too many projects going at
one time. Right now I have 3 going. Two are nearing
completion. One just needs beads and the other needs
just a few more hours of work and it will be done. I am
going to do the beading on Midsummer Night's Fairy

Welllll,
I used to do only one at a time as my Mom told me that one should
always finish one project before starting a new one. Then I started
reading RCTN.....

Currently I'm working on.... geeezzz let me see:
1) Christmas Stocking for DS (Rooftop Santa by Dimensions/Gold Coll'n)
2) Christmas Ornament for DS (from last year's JCS Ornament issue)
3) Just about finished with a hardanger pillowcase for DS (designed it
myself ;-) --> comforter cover insert is all done.
4) Just a few stitches left in DS's birth announcement (MLI's Baby in
a Basket)
5) Christmas Ornament for myself

... and in the next few days I'll be starting:
- Christmas ornament for baby #2 who's due March 2000 (MLI's '96
freebie)
- Danish Advent Calendar for DS (from Permin)
- Small Pooh picture (I have several I plan on making into a
wallhanging or quilt or something)

... and with another baby on the way I'll have to do another birth
announcement, another MLI angel for the new baby (DS got Guardian
Angel) and so, so much more.

And my stash is now HUGE compared to before I started reading RCTN!

Thanks guys,

Well, I used to have 2 or 3, but now it has really gotten out of hand! I didn't
realize it until a friend stopped by with her mother the other day. The mother
stitches, so I jumped up and showed her all of the WIP's I had. I even amazed
myself with how many I kept bringing out!

I have:

Deepest Love by Mirabilia (3/4 done)
Under The Friendship Tree by Mirabilia (barely started)
Calico Kittens picture from Cross Stitcher magazine (1/4 done)
6 ornaments (90% done) for an exchange
Potpourri by Just Nan (this will become a UFO soon. It just isn't grabbing me
like the pattern cards did)

Ok, so it's not as bad as I thought. Maybe because in my head I am also
thinking about all the projects I will be starting before finishing any of
these, so it seems worse. I think I also showed the mom a bunch of finished
items, too.

I do have a rotation process. Basically, I work on whatever suits my mood at
the moment. After all, I am supposed to be *enjoying* this, right?
