I just had to share this. This was my first attempt at "needle
painting". (Well, second - since I'm still figuring out my butterfly -
but she needs silk - which I'm still hunting up).

Come see my "baby" at http://www.queststudios.com/heritage/design9b.html

That technique is on my list to try. The bear is adorable. Have you seen
Helen Steven's books using "opus plumarium" (I think that 's the spelling).
Total inspiration!

No but you have me VERY curious. Think I'll try to hunt that one up!
Thanks for the info.

"Teddy" was so much fun to do. Really made me feel creative. I was
controlling the design, rather than it controlling me.

I have only two reference books: Weldon's and de Dillmont. Each has
differing viewpoints on how to do it. I combined them all.

I think your heritage bear is adorable. I have never tried anything like
that before ( I do mainly XS and NP), but that looks like something I would
really enjoy doing.

There is someone for everyone. The trick is finding them since the
population exploded!!

Dianne,

your teddy is just a darling! He looks like a real one and asks for
cuddling and caressing!
The shading is done wonderfully!

I have been doing a branch of peach blossoms and a butterfly lately
for a magazine article -- embroidery with silks and needlepainting are
just "my thing" (as soo many others, too!)
May I propose flat silks for your butterfly?
Wether you do have access to the Japanese Flat silks or you take
Kreniik Silk Serica and untwist the strand in it's components --
TMO flat silk is the utmost beauty for embroidery ...

(Just my own opinions, as usual :)
