Has anyone rated *several* types of watercolor pencils for use with
stamping? I want to buy a nice set of pencils, and there are several brands
out there that run about the same price--Derwent, Staedtler,
Stabilo-Aquatico, Supracolor II, Bruynzeel, Albrecht Durer. I *hate* my
Mongol watercolor pencils (cheap), but I think the Crayola ones are actually
pretty good; they just don't have many colors. Any opinions?
Thanks, Shela

I haven't used them for stamping, but I have fooled around with a few of
those brands. I really like the Caran d'ache (Supracolor) and the
Derwent watercolor pencils. Of those two, I think the Supracolors have
better colors but the Derwent are jucier. I would stay away from the
Crayola ones since they just don't use good pigments.

Good luck,
Naomi

I use the Derwent pencils. I like them and I almost have all the colors. I
bought them because they are readily available in my area and they have a
lot of colors. They look good too.

I have both the staedler and the derwent and I like the staedler SO much more
so! I also have gone through several different varieties. Could you buy a
couple individually at a art supply store (Michaels or Pearl might be the
cheapest) to see which ones YOU like the best. That might be the best way to
go. I've also tried all night media, rubber stampede, crayola and some others
and my all time favorite pencils are my staedler for watercoloring and my Berol
pencils. Try getting them on sale or with a discount coupon. Really helps to
cut costs.
Good luck!

I sampled the Berol and came to the conclusion that I didn't like their feel.
I have since tried and bought the Derwent. My friend who is a bookbinder by
trade was talking about buying a set of the Derwents for his work, however
they are expensive. He doesn't know he's getting them for Christmas!

I like my Berol Prismacolors too. But the ones I have are not
watercolor. However, I do have a new set called Faber-Castell and
they are nice. They work pretty good on regular cardstock. I do
need to invest in some watercolor paper, but that is way expensive.
