I have a Dove blender pen (you know one of those things you hear people talk
about so run right out and buy one) and I have no idea what I'm suppose to
do with it. Any suggestions?

lol! OI had the same problem so went to my rubber stamp store and asked for a
demo! wow! Was I amazed!! It works with almost all color mediums that are water
based! After participating in the demo I even bought a set of the crayon
watercolors! Wonderful little item there too! All you do is use the Dove
Blender as you would a paint brush to blend the colors! She showed me that by
"wetting" with the blender first then applying color then blending with the
Dove again you get a very intense color! It's a great little tool! Glad I asked
for a demo! A High 5 to First Impressions in Portland, Or!!

I bought mine to use with Pearl Ex. Like you, I heard people using both
so I excitedly bought them. However, I didn't like the results I got
after I applied Pearl Ex with it. Maybe I just used it the wrong way.
Nevertheless, the blender pen sat in a corner for a little while until
I worked with a stained glass type image. I wanted to soften the colors
more after I'd used watercolor pencils. I could've used a paint brush
but I'm not a paint brush person. (I have yet to learn how to control
the amount of water I use.) It turns out the blender pen was perfect
for me! The results I got with the stained glass image were great. Gone
were those "rough" fill-in spots from my colored pencils. The image
just looked really softly blended, which was exactly the look I was
striving for.

I've tried using the blender pen with markers since then, but I don't
quite get the same results I did by using watercolor pencils. It wasn't
really surprising as I don't like using markers to color in my images.

Hope this helps,
Marcia

We have a very nice store in this area *Stamping Thyme Studio Wakefield, RI*
and they are great at demos. I did the same thing (bought the Dove blender
and didn't know its full purpose)...I asked her again went I went shopping
there how to use the Dove Blender. She takes her Marveys *Watercolor
markers* and inks a piece of plastic *Rubbermaid lid* and picks the color up
on the Dove Blender and then puts it onto the paper. Repeat with a lighter
coor, etc. It really gets a nice blended effect with no harsh lines!!!!
WAHOOOO off and stamping I go!

The dove blender is now one of my best friends. Here are some ideas:

1. Color stamped image with water color pencils and then color over it with
the dove blender transforming the pencil look into a watercolor look

2. Scribble watercolor pencils onto a piece of scrap paper and use it as a
palette. Pick up color with the dove blender and then color image

3. Scribble water based markers (leplumes, tombow, etc) on a non-porus
surface (wax paper, styrofoam meat tray, plastic, extra free aol CDs) and
use it as a palette, pick up color with dove blender and color images

4. Dip blender straight into chalks and color images

5. Stamp images such as ivy in colored ink, use dove blender to "pull"
color in from stamped lines and color image - the color will match the ink
you stamped it in perfectly.

Other Tips

Color will always start out dark and lighten as you color, start in
highlighted areas of image
Lay down light colors first, then add dark colors on top
Have scrap paper nearby to swipe off unwanted dark color so you can just use
the lightest color
To clean tip between colors - wipe on scrap paper until clean
The tips are replaceable and the liquid is refill able - Its the pen that
never runs out!

If you have decided you need one of these Dove Blenders, I do sell the
Blender by itself and a Dove Blender Kit which includes the pen, refill
liquid, and 3 replacement tips. Please stop by my website and check out
these and other new products from Impressive Stamps.
