Oops!! Watercolor on vellum

Can you watercolor on velum? i.e. does it dry, look good etc..

Hmmm... I wonder if that might work as a window effect (like a seascape
through a window scene. I think I'll try it. Give me a week or so and I'll
let you know how it goes.

The water color does dry on velum, but I find the paper gets really
rippled--maybe priming the paper first will work better, like water
color artists do with water color paper (if I remember right from my Jr.
High art class, you tape the paper down on all four sides onto a flat
surface and paint it with plain water, then let dry) Maybe someone else
has more experience with this and can add their input.

I am a water color artist, and in my experience vellums and calligraphy type
papers do not work well for water colors. I really don't think priming, or
stretching would do any good only because the papers are not thick enough to
take that amount of water. If you are going to
want to use watercolors I would reccomend a watercolor paper, for textured
use a cold pressed, for smoothness use a hot pressed paper. You do not need
to stretch it normally for small projects.
