Been discussing different techniques in pottery class. Am interested in
learning about using purchased plain glazed ceramic dishes/bowls/tiles
and using glazes to paint on designs. I understand there is a new
"kitchen oven" firing product on the market, this is NOT what I had in
mind. Apparently there is a way to use Duncan, Gare etc. underglazes or
regular 04-06 glazes on these items, then fire in regular kiln to set
the glaze. Tried one as an experiment last week, results were terribly
disappointing! Would appreciate any information on how to do this, if it
can be done, and the cone temperature (if it can be done).

You posting is a little confusing. You talk about purchasing ready
glazed ceramics
and then underglazes (under glaze colors ? )
I don't understand why you want to paint designs on plain ready glazed
ceramic ware
using glazes. But you may have your reasons. Please explain.

If you are going to work with plain ceramics THAT HAS ALREADY been
glazed then why don't you use porcelain/ceramic over-glaze colors (fire
to cone 017-015) and
use the single fire method and drying medium/oil (versus non drying
medium/oil) for color mixing ?

Feel free to e-mail me for further info or with specific questions.

what you are talking about sound like a majolica technique

in order to do this you need a matt glaze on the project that you are
going to work with and I was taught at ceramichrome seminar to use under
glaze for the design the matt glaze doesent move in the firing where the
gloss glazes will move

let me know how this works out for you or if you need any more help
