Painting old armoire, S.O.S!

Hi all,

I want to paint an old armoire. Stripping and sanding done. Now I want
to paint something nice on the doors. A pair of topiaries would look
nice but I haven't been able to find a picture clear enough for me to
copy the design from. Any book/magazine you can recommend?

I just recently saw a beautiful topiary stencil at Michael's craft store,
and it looked like a good size to put on door panels.

I refinish an old hutch and painted some flowers on the doors. It turned out
great. You can find a lot of different books for tole painting at craft stores.

Hi Jill,

Thanks for the tip. I was there the other day but didn't see it. I'll
check it out again tomorrow.

Will also check the wallpaper store (thanks again to the person who
sent me the email with such a great tip - I dislike hanging wallpaper
and would never have thought of wallpaper as a source for great
designs).

Hi Glenda,

I've checked the books at the two craft stores nearby but couldn't find
topiaries (searching the net didn't help much either). That's why I was
asking if somebody could recommend a book or magazine. I think that
Jocasta Innes (sp?) has done some topiaries on walls but I may be
mistaken.

Try looking in your stencil supply or at the stores. I did my fireplace
front with ivy and topiaries last fall and it turned out great. I had to
use 2 or 3 different stencils to get the look I wanted but it was worth the
trouble. I also used Aleenes crafting putty stuff for the flower pot (sorry
I can't think of the name of the stuff I used) oh well you wouldn't want to
use it on the armoire any way. Good Luck with your project.

I wonder if you are thinking of Aleene's 3D accent paste? I used that with a
foam ivy stencil on my fire place surround and on the cornice boards for the
windows on either side. It's wonderful. It's one of my favorite
decorating/crafts projects. It looks like a relief carving.

Yes that's it Aleenes 3D accent paste. After I left the computer I went to
my craft room & found the jar. I have to many craft items & can never
remember the correct names.
I only used the paste for the pot to give it a more natural look, like the
pot is standing out more than the ivy.

I think Debbie Travis did some topiaries on an episode of her show, The Painted
House. I haven't visited her site in quite a while, so I don't know if the
patterns are on it.

You might check out Dressler Stencils. http://www.dresslerstencils.com

She has many, many stencils listed on the web site under "Products In
Action". I saw one or two topiaries among the few designs I looked at.
There is so much. I'm sure you'll find something. You can also
e-mail them and find out if they sell the individual stencils rather in
