canvas painting

Hello,
I would appreciate any info I could get on using canvas as an area rug.
I know I need to cure it with gesso and from there I just paint with an
acrylic?! I'd like to know how successful anyone was with this. I think
it sounds like a great way to personalize a room. Any suggestions?

website that gives detailed instructions on painted floor-

There's also a wonderful book titled "The Complete
Book of Floorcoths" by Kathy Cooper and Jan Hersey
that has a ton of useful information and design suggestions.

It's a great hobby. I started my first cloth last year, and
have given several as gifts and have sold quite a few as

Canvas floor cloths are super-easy. The most important things to remember
are:
* make sure you prime the top and the bottom with gesso. This way it will
lie flat. If you just prime the tops, the edges will curl up and nothing
you do afterwards will change that.
* make sure you finish it with a varnish, several coats, both top and
bottom. If you only do the top and the floor cloth gets wet, paint could
seep out underneath and stain your floor. Ugh.
Besides that, the rest is up to you. You can use acrylic paints or latex
to match your walls. You can stencil, block stamp or use a glaze to
make a faux finish. Whatever you like.
