Food of the Gods
Say "Treasure Hunt" ... then say "no no ... I mean a real treasure
hunt" ... and there will be a pause ... and then a silence ... and
then ... without doubt ... the blood of most will be brought to a
thrilling boil. Why the excitement? Is it because the smell of gold is
in the air? Or silver? Or precious gems? Or is it all of these plus
the foreshadowing of that most elegant of values ... the
promise of unexpected beauty. I strongly suspect the last.
And then there are the supernatural beliefs that go beyond mere
attractiveness. The ancient Chinese believed that Jade transmitted
immortality. The Incas believed that gold was the sweat of the sun and
silver was the tears of the moon. The ancient Peruvians regarded shell
as the food of the gods.
As to the worth of those objects found by avid treasure hunters ...
well ... that worth can be measured by one singular facet that
overshadows all the others ... rarity. So then ... by a process of
irrefutable reasoning which could only be matched by Sherlock Holmes
himself ... one can deduce that if one were to go on a treasure hunt
... and come up after a bit of considerable digging with an ear
ornament made of gold ... and lapis lazuli ... and also shell
... one might end up with enough money to buy enough lottery tickets
to ensure the Big Win.
But what if one were not able to make the treasure trek of the
century. What if one had to stay home and toil to feed the kiddies ...
and fill the hungry maws of the predatory banks and loan institutions
... what if one were not privy to even ever see a treasure such as the
one described above ... what would one do? Live a life fraught with
deprivation? What indeed?
Ah dear souls ... if you are reading this than you have already
succeeded in climbing out of the muck and mire of a mundane existence.
For here at Tyler-Adam Corp. we strive for no other goal than to give
pleasure to our fellow inhabitants of this planet. If --and only as a
fortuitous aside--if we happen to make a buck or two in the process
... well why not?
So here it is. I have an image to show you of a Peruvian Ear Ornament
made of gold and lapis and shell. A stunner my friends ... even if I
have to say so myself. A thing of beauty and rarity. Worth enough I'm
sure to buy its discoverer enough lottery tickets to ensure eternal
wealth.
