Would you say it is worth $220? if it works?

It's 1/10 of the new cost for the cheapest ones.

OK, I just brought it home. I will try to adapt it to my Chevy for the
next winter. I may have to tinker with the control a little bit. I
have very little clue how snowplows work. I may need to do some
welding to adapt it to my truck.

Snowplows work by pushing snow :)

There are very minimal controls on one, some are power lift only and
some have power angle. Most have solenoid valve control, but I think a
few used mechanical push-pull cable control to the valve(s). Electric
hydraulic pump, with a contactor to turn it on whenever a control is
moved. Welding mount adapters should be the bulk of the project.

I think that this one has a solenoid valve control.

The control that came with it, seems beaten up, I may want to replace
it.

What's the number for the Cook county sheriff? I need to report a robbery.

I've used a snow plow like this quite bit in the past. They are REAL HARD
on your pickup. So much so, that I sold the plow and bought a snow blower.
I went through two auto trannies and had to have the frame mounting
re-welded. But I did make a fair amount of cash doing parking lots.

Replacement parts are readily available, as are rebuild kits for seals,
Northern Tool carries a lot of them.

What kind of pickup did you have?

Could it be that you simply were too hard on your truck? Like, you
tried to push continuously?

Plows are generally ok on trucks..... most any way..... some will
void warranty. If all your gonna do is your driveway then have at
it. Push snow back as far as you can your first storm because once it
freezes the the problems start.... nouthing like plowing fresh snow
and hitting a frozen snowbank,

Don't run the road with the plow mounted. The front ends of trucks
really dont like it.. Put it on before it snows, plow the snow then
take it off.

Pushing continuously is the easy part, the hard part is all the slamming
back and forth between forward and reverse gears and never getting
enough speed to lock the torque converter. Heat is the enemy of an
automatic transmission and that type of activity heats them up big time.
There also isn't enough airflow at those low speeds for the normal
transmission coolers to work properly.

starter motor, was pretty much self-contained. He set up a set of
relays for the controller box, had swing cylinders on the plow, the
controller had cables to operate valves up front along with switches
to control the pump. The box lasted longer than the Scout did using

That depends on how well you rework the mounts. Generally, after you
have done it a few times, perhaps 15 minutes.

How would it survive snow plowing?

Looks good, I see it has power angle as well as lift, just what you
want.

If the truck doesn't have the snow plow prep option, you need to add an
extra transmission cooler and may need a front suspension upgrade to
handle the extra weight of the plow without sagging too much. If you're
just doing your driveway the later may not be an issue.

Well if it's a truck newer than 95 you won't find a conventional mount
plate to fit it. Western doesn't make one. They only have the mounts for
the newer minute mount style plows.

As for how well it will handle the plow. That depends a LOT on you. If
you don't plow like a fool and pay attention to whet your doing it will
handle it just fine. My plow truck is a 93 2500 and it has worn a plow
every year since new. The only thing I have replaced that I actually
attribute to the extra weight of the plow is a set of shocks and a
steering stabilizer.

I would suggest that you add two items to the truck in addition to what
it has if you plan on using the plow a LOT or if your hauling weight.
One is an additional trans cooler with a separate cooling fan on it.
Most of the racing type catalogs carry them as oil coolers for engines.
Two is a good yellow beacon light. You will want it in operation when
plowing and it doesn't hurt to run one if your loaded heavy.

Ayup. I lost most of my love for snow, after growing up in, then
leaving Northern Michigan, where the average snow fall is 124" a year.

12 Feet of snow, 6 months out of the year..was a bit much. Now I live
in the high desert. I see snow on the tops of the mountains all around
me.

I think we had an 1/8" on the ground 4 yrs ago. Then it melted about an
hour later.

If you have the window sticker it should say what options it has. You
could also lookup the RPO code for the snowplow prep option and check to
see if it's listed on the option label in the glove compartment.

sell it for enough money to buy both a big blower and a snowmobile.

Full size pics take too long to load, but from the thumbnails it looks
like the old style mount that I prefer. I could mount my fisher plow
faster than those minute mount new ones.

When you mount the attachment frame to the truck be sure to make it
low enough that the plow angle pivot is vertical. And use a long
enough lift chain so the plow can go down a little to follow the
contours of the road.

Like others said, trans. temp. is the killer. Get a cooler(with a
fan) and/or a trans. temp. gage.

And watch out for manholes and drain grates. Take notes or pictures
of where you plan on plowing.

I had more than my fill of daytime TV, when working in a TV shop in

I'm sure you'll find something to do with it. Like triple or quadruple
your investment by the end of tomorrow afternoon.

Hey, don't blame me. Blame the Motivational-Quote-of-the-Day site for
sending me something pithy from Opie. I knew it was something to put
up just for Lew, since he called me a bigot. (Well, Lew, did it get
your goat, or are we not mentioning her?)

If he was a bit closer I'd buy it quick. Western makes a GREAT plow and
that plow new was probably close to $3000.00. My FD just picked up a new
Western commercial style for our new plow truck and it was almost 4K
even with a discount.

Agreed, I turn the TV on a few minutes before the news in case some
new singer is performing. They have an extremely low opinion of the
intelligence and maturity of their audience.

Most of TV is MBAs and empty talking heads these days. I watch the
news, and a few old sitcoms. Even watching the news bothers me after my
time in the Army where I produced and directed live daily half hour
newscasts, while on duty as the broadcast engineer. We were allowed
only one mistake per show, and there were no teleprompters. The
'broadcasters' (Military talking heads) prepared their own material and
practiced before every newscast. I even had to slip into the studio to
change camera angles between some shots, then back to the control room.

No sat TV here, just sub-basic cable.

How long is your driveway? I ask that because I don't think you live out in the country
so it is likely short. A snowblower you walk behind would be a lot less hassle. I blow
about 200FT and I never run out of room to put the snow in.

The ATV is faster, I think mine is more fun.

Nah,....its actually snowed in my front yard 5 times.

Now I do drive through it a couple times each year as I drive over the
5000' on top of the Grapevine between the Central Valley and LA.

We barely had snow this year. Only a few miles from your old stomping grounds. I'm not
complaining.
