"This is the people's House -- and the moment a majority forgets this, it starts
writing itself a ticket to minority status," House Republican leader Rep. John
Boehner declared on the House floor Sunday night, warning Democrats that they
would lose control of Congress over their vote.
But in the hours after Democrats approved the sweeping legislation, a GOP
counter-narrative emerged, fed by David Frum, a former speechwriter for
President George W. Bush ( http://www.frumforum.com/waterloo ).
It was the Republican Party that made the big mistake, Frum argued, by losing
its grand bet that unified opposition to Obamacare could prevent the measure
from becoming law. "Conservatives and Republicans today suffered their most
crushing legislative defeat since the 1960s. It's hard to exaggerate the
magnitude of the disaster,"
....
The GOP's decision to offer blanket opposition to health care reform, he wrote,
backfired completely. "We went for all the marbles," Frum wrote. "We ended with
none."
Senator Jim DeMint, R-S.C., famously predicted last year that a defeat of health
care, Obama's chief domestic priority, would be the president's "Waterloo."
Instead, Frum wrote, it could be the GOP's.
....
The current Republican leaders were not the only ones coming under criticism
from conservatives in Monday's aftermath. A conservative writer for the American
Spectator, Philip Klein
( http://spectator.org/blog/2010/03/21/mad-about-obamacare-blame-bush ), blamed
George W Bush. The Bush administration, he wrote, "squandered an opportunity to
push free market health care solutions."
"Today will be largely remembered as the biggest legislative victory for
liberals since Medicare in 1965," Klein wrote. "But it should also be remembered
as the day that Bush cemented his legacy as one of the most destructive
presidents for advocates of limited government."
....

The GOP has likely cost themselves the November elections.
Serves the idiots right.
