Wis. man charged with killing 4 relatives in Ill.
By DON BABWIN, Associated Press Writer Don Babwin, Associated Press

Thu Apr 15, 11:21 pm ET
CHICAGO – A Wisconsin man was charged Thursday with killing his
pregnant wife, infant son and two nieces in a shooting spree at a
Chicago home that also left his mother and nephew wounded, authorities
said.
James Larry, 32, of Madison, Wis., was charged with four counts of
first-degree murder, four counts of attempted first-degree murder and
two counts of intentional homicide of an unborn child. Officials said
both his wife and teenage niece were pregnant.
Larry told police following his arrest early Wednesday that he heard
voices encouraging him to kill his family and was sorry he had run out
of bullets, a person close to the investigation told The Associated
Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not
authorized to discuss the investigation.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office said Thursday that Larry's
19-year-old wife, Tawanda Thompson, and their 7-month-old son, Jahod
Larry, were among those shot to death before 5 a.m. Wednesday. Larry's
nieces, 3-year-old Keleasha Larry and 16-year-old Keyshai Fields, also
were killed. Thompson and Fields were pregnant, the office said.
James Larry was being held without bond and was scheduled for a court
appearance Friday, police said. Jail officials did not know whether he
had an attorney.
The person who spoke on condition of anonymity said Larry told police
Allah told him to kill family members. The man's sister told reporters
at a vigil outside the home that her brother had recently been reading
passages from an Islamic text that led him to believe he should kill
someone.
Larry's mother, Leona Larry, and his 13-year-old nephew remained
hospitalized Thursday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Leona Larry was in critical condition, hospital spokesman Mike Maggio
said. He declined to release details about the boy because he is a
minor.
Court documents in Madison, Wis., indicate James Larry and Thompson
were granted joint custody of the 7-month-old in a paternity case just
last week.
Although there are discrepancies in the spelling of Thompson's first
name and the first name of the boy — Wisconsin documents list her
first name as Twanda and the baby as Jihad — the ages of both are the
same as those killed in Chicago.
The couple married last month, according to the April 6 paternity
judgment.
Court records indicate Larry has an arrest record dating to 1995 for
battery, drug possession, resisting arrest and escape, said Andy
Conklin, spokesman for the Cook County, Ill., state's attorney's
office.
Larry was sentenced in 2002 to almost six years in federal prison
after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm as a felon. Paroled in
April 2007, he stayed out of trouble for about a year before he was
sentenced to three months in a halfway house after he admitted smoking
marijuana.

I love it. First you post that having a psych test should be a
requirement for purchasing a gun and then you post an article that
proves that is a bunch of crap. Did you not notice that the man was a
convicted felon who had already spent six years in prison for
possession of a firearm. The current laws already prohibit him from
possessing a firearm. Do you think that if there are two laws that
prohibit him from having a firearm that would be better than just
enforcing the law that already exists?
Is the problem that you do not read the things you post or is it that
you can not comprehend what you read? I suspect that when you see
something about someone using guns to kill people, that you go into
some sort of fit and can not think.

Oh please. As a quick search of past exchanges on the metalworking

liberal.
Yet that attitude is just plain nuts.
Who's gonna administer the psych test? A psychologist, that's who.
What's the most highly concentrated pool of incompetent and/or outright
crazy folks who are still recognized as 'professional'? Psychologists!
The Soviet Union* didn't dream up the idea of using psychology to
enforce their right-wing-in-left-wing-clothing hypocrisy using an Ouija
board -- no, they knew that if you want to toss someone in the klink
for having bad political thoughts the quickest way to do it was to get a
High Priest of Bad Thoughts to slap a diagnostic label on someone, and
away they go.
I'm not a gun toter, and it'd take a much more serious breakdown of
civilization before I'd want to be. Further, there's a lot of gun
control laws** that I'm _happy_ to sign up to. But I'll be damned
before I (or my neighbor) have to be "evaluated" before I can go buy a
piece!
I know it ain't gonna happen, but I just wish that all the left wing
nuts and all the right wing nuts would all move to the SAME ISLAND
someplace, and SHUT UP, and leave all of the SANE folks in piece to
actually make this place a decent country instead of a random collection
of outright crazy initiatives by two superficially opposing camps of
narcissistic lunatics.

What the dumb son of a bitch never mentions..is that gun homicide keeps
dropping like a rock. We are now below 1964 rates, with far far more
firearms on hand..

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/jan/21/guns-decrease-murder-rates/
By THE WASHINGTON TIMES
More guns in law-abiding hands mean less crime. The District of Columbia
proves the point.
Reading most press accounts, one would be forgiven for thinking
Armageddon had arrived after the Supreme Court struck down the
District's handgun ban in 2008. Predictions sprung forth from all
directions that allowing more citizens to own guns and not forcing them
to keep them locked up was going to threaten public safety. According to
D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty, more guns in homes would cause more violent
crime.
This has never been the case. Local politicians enthusiastically
embraced the 1977 handgun ban predicting it would make Washington a safe
place by dramatically reducing murder rates. But they were as wrong
three decades ago as they are now.
A telling story is illustrated by the murder numbers since the handgun
ban and gun-lock bans were struck down. Between 2008 and 2009, the FBI's
preliminary numbers indicate that murders fell nationally by 10 percent
and by about 8 percent in cities that have between 500,000 and 999,999
people. Washington's population is about 590,000. During that same
period of time, murders in the District fell by an astounding 25
percent, dropping from 186 to 140. The city only started allowing its
citizens to own handguns for defense again in late 2008.
Few who lived in Washington during the 1970s can forget the upswing in
crime that started right after the ban was originally passed. In the
five years before the 1977 ban, the murder rate fell from 37 to 27
murders per 100,000. In the five years after the gun ban went into
effect, the murder rate rose back up to 35. One fact is particularly
hard to ignore: D.C.'s murder rate fluctuated after 1976 but only once
fell below what it was in 1976 before the ban. That aberration happened
years later, in 1985.
This correlation between the D.C. gun ban and diminished safety was not
a coincidence. Look at the Windy City. Immediately after Chicago banned
handguns in 1982, the murder rate, which had been falling almost
continually for a decade, started to rise. Chicago's murder rate rose
relative to other large cities as well. The phenomenon of higher murder
rates after gun bans are passed is not just limited to the United
States. Every single time a country has passed a gun ban, its murder
rate soared.
The choice Americans face isn't between freedom or safety. Washington's
experience with gun bans shows once again that Americans will either be
free and safe or unfree and unsafe. Letting people protect themselves is
the responsible approach. It's important the Supreme Court remember
these facts in March when it hears the case over Chicago's handgun ban.
And again TornMentally is proven to have shit in his hat.
And put it on his head.

No psych test needed, he was a convicted felon, and already imprisoned
once for illegal possession of a firearm by a felon.

Well? Still waiting.

He couldn't legally buy a gun whether he had a "psyche test" or not.

You mean cars right... it's Toyota's killing Americans.
Ok, but first demonstrate your opinion by making illegal drugs unavailable,
or at least scarce. Your ideas will only keep people from owning guns
legally, what are your plans for those who don't obey the law?

Ten times as many people are killed by health care workers and Doctors
via incompetence neglect.
How? Was it not already illegal for him to own a gun?

It's hopeless to argue with the Liberals.... they are some form of brain
damaged situation, like a cross between Autism and Tourette's syndrome,
*fact and logic are stimuli that can't be processed* by their brains and
the resulting frustration causes a Tourette syndrome response of lies

We could always make being stupid a capitol offense. Then they

Please, you cant hit that small a target. Better aim for the big head first.
No it would not. Psychiatrists themselves say that it's not possible
to predict violent behavior. 99% of people with a mental illness are
not at all violent; they suffer from depression, eating disorders,
phobias, etc.
"They are lumping people who have received mental health care in with
criminals," said Steven Hoge, M.D., director of the Division of
Forensic Psychiatry at Bellevue Hospital Center in New York and a
member of APA's Council on Psychiatry and Law.
"APA joined the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in
expressing concerns about the vague and insulting terms for people
with mental illness in previously enacted gun-control legislation."
Most psychiatrists fear that laws that target the mentally ill will
further stigmatize people with mental illness and discourage them from
seeking treatment, which is already a problem.
