Oh, Please. Not that one again. If you are talking about a battle
between Christians and Muslims you're probably right. Both sides have
nothing but believers so of course there are no atheists. But the truth
is there have always been plenty of unbelievers and many of them have
wound up in foxholes. So the only validity of your statement has to do
with the proportion of atheists in society as a whole. The number given
these days usually is around 10% atheists so you would expect about the
same number to be in the military as well. So what is your claim
supposed to prove?

OTOH, while it may be true that there are no atheists in foxholes,

Gee, I wonder why Trijicon would be getting flak for putting bible
references on the sights it sends to the Middle East? Could it be that
the Muslims who see these bible quotes on the M16s of the invading
forces might think the conflict is one where the Christians are back on
another Crusade against their faith? They wouldn't pick up on the
Christians vs Muslims thing would they? I mean they aren't the kind of
people who would remember things from ancient times like the Crusades,
right? Seeing the quotes from the bible wouldn't have the effect of
making them more willing to fight the infidels now would it? You have to
be pretty thick not to see why it's not a good idea to make this a
religious war, and what Trijicon is doing is not helpful.

He said (and I papraphrase here a bit) "...though atheists wound up IN

He also said that if you needed a blood transfusion, it didn't matter what

There was no other distinction.

When atheists stop proselytizing, perhaps everyone else will too.
How so?
Gunner
Excuse me, but it wasn't the athiests running Trijicon. It wasn't the
atheists placed the religious references on those sights. It was the
atheists who professed the concern over proselytizing.
The question asked was "...why would atheists care?" Someone (in this
case, me) gave an answer. That is how things work on usenet. ;)
That is the concern of some. When those sights are furnished on guns
that will be used by Iraqis as they assume their role, it will be
considered by many to be pushing the Christian religion over Islam. That
being said, I doubt that the Iraqis will raise much fuss over the fact
that much of our currency contains the words "In God we trust" as it is
being used to assist their country.

Blank sights would be proselytizing for atheists. My preference is for the
atheists to go find their own sights and leave the proven good sights with
the references alone.

I have an idea, Trijicon makes new ones, I'll gladly buy one of the old ones with the

I don't think it was the sentiment that was complained about.....it was

iirc, there were photos of Israeli schoolkids painting religious and other

Where did I say that? If you had followed the thread, you would have seen
that is what I said those protesting were afraid of. I havenot expressed
my own opinion on the inscriptions other than to say that I doubted that
there were many complaints from the Iraqis on the fact some US currency has
"In God We Trust" on it when we give it to them.
Why do you, Editor and Curly all try to claim I have thought something I
haven't? ;)
Of course. The whole complaint is political.
IHSV "In Hoc Signo Vinces" - marked on the shields of
Constantine's Legions when he fought a battle outside Rome in 312 to
end the civil war. (Or that one.) That's Latin for "In This Sign
Conquer", and Constantine also added a Christina Cross to the various
standards.
And his army was by a long ways, far from the first to put
religious symbols on their gear. In fact, the standards of the
Legions were also religious objects.

Nothing wrong with the sights just with the idiot bible thumpers who
decided to put religious symbols on them. And if you think it was
Muslims who attacked on 9/11 then you should know that the Muslims think
it was the Christians who attacked them in Iraq. Enough of them know
what war against Christians was to think the Christians are at it again.
Believing it's another crusade helps the suicide bombers be willing to
die in the cause. I think some of our men are dead and maimed due to
that. You can attribute that directly to making it a Christian vs Muslim
war. Then you put Christian symbols on our weapons and look what you get.

"How the Jesus gun misfired"
[
Biblical references on rifle sights have been an open secret among soldiers. But
its become an embarrassment for the Pentagon, causing Michigan gunmaker
Trijicon to send removal kits.
A Michigan manufacturer criticized for putting biblical citations on gunsights
sold to the US military vows to end the practice. It has sent 100 removal kits
that soldiers can use to scrape off words that critics say promote the idea of a
Christian crusade in the Middle East.
The revelations, first reported by ABC News, caused embarrassment and
consternation within the Pentagon after religious groups including the
Interfaith Alliance complained that it violated an Army rule against
proselytizing.

I demand that you die.
Damn, still breathing?

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the
lamentation of their women.
Where is that in the Constitution? Putting verses on a scope is not passing
a law.
The government didn't demand the verses be on the scopes, the
manufacture has been doing it for years regardless of who the customer
was.
Would you like the cross hairs removed too ?
Take those guns away and let the soldiers see how wonderful Political
Correctness is that they are fighting for, as they stand around with no
guns.
Did you know the items in question are detachable sights ?
Take the sights off the gun, but then that's about like having a gun
with no bullets..... I'd heard it was a scope.... the point is it's
just stupid to care what is on the gun, just order the next gun sights
without any extra editorial.
--
Again, where is a law being passed? Govt prints and hands out money too.
No, just reshaped into a peace sign. Or, I have red dots with selectable
crosshairs so they could make it selectable to your preferred religious
shape. Atheists could get a blank crosshair.
Religious fundamentalists got it put on our money.
The iron sights are still there..
If it bothers you so much then send your money to me.
Then i expect you to forgo all US money or be a hypocrite.

And Janet Napolitano nervous.
Which should tell you all you need to know about Democrats. How can one
restore America to greatness if greatness makes you uncomfortable?

Do they meet the Mil Spec for bible verses?
"Thou shalt not kill."
"Neither shall you commit adultery." -- rethugs are not xtians.
"Neither shall you steal."
"Neither shall you bear false witness against your neighbor."
"Neither shall you covet your neighbor's wife."
"Neither shall you desire your neighbor's house, or field, or male or female
slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
Find those "WMDs" yet?

Are you dense ?
Or just stupid ?
There is no milspec requiring it. Just as there is no spec requiring a
company put their name on an item.
This might be a schok to you but the military does buy things that are
COTS to fill equipment required by MTOE.

Sleep well tonight,
RD (The Sandman)
Some points to ponder:
Why is it good if a vacuum cleaner really sucks?
Why is the third hand on a clock called the "second hand"?
Why did Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?
Why do we sing "Take me out to the ballgame" when we are already
there?
That's the right choice but a further waste of money. Let's just stop
putting superstition on buildings and money in the future.
