Just now I wanted to shorten a soup can to make
a ~1.2" tall 'drip cup'.

I rotated the open end of the can 90 and used
a can opener to remove the top seam.

Successive passes shortened the can to the
right height in about no time.

Filed the sharp edges and I have my part for
No Money.

*Too much* tuna, if there is such a thing. :)

I wanted a can ~ 2.6" diameter.
I'm already using 'tuna' and 'water chestnut' cans
for other stuff but, at ~3.3" dia. they were too big
for this particular application.

Slicing cans of whipped cream in midair might make an interesting
video. Perhaps 'Funny or Die' could interest Jessica Biel, Emily
Browning or Summer Glau to lend a fierce expression and stunt
training.

They would have to be covered head to toe (black leather?) to protect
against the sharp edges of a cut can.

If they could afford her this is an absolutely ferocious warrior

OK now what you should do is to rig a fixture so you can put a nice
double rolled edge on the top of the can. As an alternative to that
plan you could make an edge band and with the help of some of the
electrical wizards around here find some military surplus capacitors
and rig a spot welding attachment to your arc welder so you can affix
the edge band to the top of the can.

It's the RCM way...

I love that John Belushi Samurai Deli chef skit where he tossed a tomato in
the air and sliced it with a Samurai sword.

His look was priceless, not a "Wow, I hit it" look, but a "What? Were you
thinking I was going to miss it?" look. With a little "Holy shit, I hit it"
mixed in.

It musta been sharp because the tomato dropped straight down, not thrown
towards the audience.

If that was live, he nailed it.

Buying a TIG welder and a ring roller to do the same
thing would not be within the RCM zeitgeist? :)

That is what a friend did.

That's right it was a *friend* that did it. :)

I ended up trimming two cans the same way
and inverting one. I shrunk the OD of the
top can and snapped them together using the
corrugations to make the axial alignment.

It worked a treat!

It is definitely plausible - compare tossing a baseball in the air, and
whacking it with the bat. :-)

But once I saw a comic talk about swordsmen proving how sharp their swords
are by chopping a carrot in half - he said, "Sharp?" and whacked the mic
stand with the carrot and sure enough, it broke in half. ;-)

But you still have to hit the thing. ;-)

She was the reason I started watching "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". I
heard an old gang-banger-turned-self-defense-guru say that he like the
show because of her. I just had to see why. I stayed for the Whedon
writing...

Sadly she went and married the stunt coordinator Pruitt and left the
show. Her replacement was weak in comparison.

Scroll down to Jeff Pruitt's rant about the Princess and the
Handmaiden. The fans had unusual access to the writers and crew and
the popularity turned some heads. Writer Drew Goddard (Lost,
Cloverfield) formed his adoring fans into a band of Minions.

In the ep where Buffy runs away to LA, Pruitt answers the door at the
devil's 'rescue mission'.

Dancer Heather Morris on Glee has similar speed and agility plus a
snarky enough sense of humor that they let her ad-lib her lines
sometimes. Here she is as Beyonce's "token white girl":

When hair hides the face assume it's the stunt double. Crawford's face
appears briefly during a sword fight.

I didn't think Gellar was all that hot. She disappears in a row of
other actresses, such as the very brief time she lasted as a
cheerleader. I liked her better in the second season when they left
off the heavy babydoll makeup that hindered her acting.

Huh?

The first is a forum discussion that quotes Pruitt's "Nobody listens

handmaiden fairy tale, the second is the top result from Googling

Her body mechanics were exceptional. The ex-gang banger I referred to

mechanics related to power generation). It also happens to be my
interest (power generation across disciplines) so there was a lot to

Nor am I. "Forever Knight" attracted an intelligent and literate fan
base that was diluted with too many gushing kiddies when Buffy came
along.

Goddard is the rare combination of an excellent writer with a thorough
scientific education. He's the grandson of the rocket Goddard.

Yes, 'twas another good program.

I think that's what the teevee stations want. A bigger base. They most
likely care less how good their programming is if it brings in
eyeballs. Look at the Dumb and Dumber phenomenon. Braindead stupid
movies and horrifying reality progs seem to bring in the bullion.

That's the result of programming that costs and brings in a million or
two per hour. I like to think of the advertising as a tax on food, and
avoid those brands.

Unscripted reality TV came out of the writers' strike.

He's lucky he wasn't a girl. They'd have called her Ilean. <groan>

Cool. What discipline? Jeet?

I guess you can say that, although he has his own style now. He was
invited to do a seminar specifically on power punching.

I was always amazed at the amount of power Bruce could put into a 3"
long strike. It was totally inhuman. Has anyone ever mastered that
as well as he did?

Who'd know unless you measured it objectively? There is an awful lot
of BS surrounding these parlor tricks.

The big one is that you don't have your normal depth perception with
one eye, or a camera. Punches can miss short by a considerable
distance. A long focal length lens compresses the foreground and
background together.
