Hi:

I am new to google groups but post regularly on Practical Machinist,
Candle Power Forums, Pirate 4X4.

I just purchased a very rough K. O. Lee 900 series tool cutter and
grinder. It is only useful as a hobby/project. I have a 1340 Lathe and
a nice Bridgeport series 1 2hp varispeed mill.

Has anyone had experience/own this machine? Is anyone who does own
this machine local to me in Riverside CA?

I can post pictures on photobucket when I receive the machine.

Does anyone know a source for tooling outside of LeBlond?

Thanks to all,

Jon

Well ... first of -- you aren't really posting on "google groups"
but rather the usenet newsgroup rec.crafts.metalworking, which you
happen to be accessing through google groups. There are many other ways
to access the newsgroups, most of which are much better than google
groups.

One problem is that google groups tends to hide the fact that
you are really accessing a usenet newsgroup and make you think that you
are accessing google groups. (They have a few groups of their own, but
the vast majority of what they offer is from usenet.

Usenet is international, so you will see people from various
parts of the world (typically, but not always, the English speaking
countries.)

No experience with the K.O. Lee, and mostly my experience is
with a Sanford surface grinder. But you will find others here with
experience with K.O. Lee -- but probably not all of them, because many
block postings which come through google groups because they seem to be
a frequent source of spam postings and of trolls.

You might try this web site:

<http://www.kolee.com/ABOUT/tabid/145/Default.aspx>

which is mostly company history, but which includes free downloadable
parts lists and manuals -- including some for their tool and cutter
grinders, as well as for their surface grinders.

Included is one for the BA900 grinder, which appears to be a
surface grinder, not a tool and cutter grinder, but the standard
equipment photo seems to have a lot of things which could be used for
tool and cutter grinder applications.

Good Luck,
DoN.

I am attempting to educate myself on the various attachments and their
use. Furthermore, I may have to rebuild some components of the machine
I just purchased. Do you have access to a manual sir?

Thanks,

Jon

Thanks for your feedback Don. I am familiar with this site. I will
hopefully be able to locate a source for the manual.

Best,

Not for the 900. Check the link above and you will find many documents

I'm not sure KO Lee produced specific manuals for each of their grinders.
They did produce an ~100 page instruction manual on T&C grinding that
covered most, if not all, of the grinder models and at least some of the
accessories. I see reference to a BA900 grinder in my copy so it probably
has some info that would be useful to you. When KO Lee was still in
business they were selling reprints for $75. LeBlond may still be selling
them or you may get lucky and find an old copy on Ebay.

There are other good generic sources of info though - Norton (the grinding
wheel people) produced a similar manual and old copies of those used to show
up pretty often on Ebay for $10 or so.
