I haven't seen anything in any of the reports as to exactly what kind,
but it supposedly was "very expensive" and cost about $2000-3000. That

solid ballistic plates which certainly could deflect bullets into
people around him. Far more of a concern IMHO is not richochets off
the body armor, but outright misses. Under such circumstances NOBODY
is going to be able to react with adequate response times and accuracy
without being extensively trained in combat shooting under high stress
situtations. People just don't respond well under extreme stress
without extensive combat training drills to basically desensetize
yourself to the stress so you can focus and respond properly. Under
such shooting situations your average "conservative gun owner" is
likely to just start blasting away in the direction of the threat.
Anyone around the shooter is far more endangered by the gun
"enthusiast" than they would be from the shooter. Far, far, far more
beneficial to the crowd would be have if someone near the shooter had
martial sciences combat training. One full contact combat fighter
could have taken that guy out without endangering anyone else in the
crowd. The more gunnuts you had in the crowd the more innocent people
would have died.
